The Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York City. Until today there is the Amateur Night where new acts can show their talent. Back in the day MJ and his brothers had one of their first gigs outside their home region at the Apollo. Coincidentally his last public performance was here, too (April 2002). Everyone who watched 'An American Dream' might remember the tree of hope, a piece of wood every contester touches before going on stage. It is still there.
