I wouldn't mind being part of a monastic life. I would be hard pressed to find a monastery that would accept me but it's a world that always had a pull at me. I've always had a bit of a problem with obedience, though so it would come with its challenges, but lately I've been giving it some serious thought.
I like the idea of life having a rigid and strict order and away from the hustle and bustle and grind of working life.

I can see why it might appeal and I’m an atheist! Realistically though I think it would be a very stressful way to live even though it looks peaceful. Your life would not be your own.

It's just a fantasy really. When life gets tough some dream about escaping to a carribean island or some beautifu European city, but I dream of finding refuge in the ordered and disciplined life of a convent. Walking around the scenic church garden, the smell of old wood, and creaking floorboards. It seems so idyllic and quaint.

It’s been an ongoing fantasy of mine for many years, and for the same reasons; to escape the pressures of life and the daily grind. For example, I started work on Tuesday at 4pm and finished Wednesday night -yesterday- at 10pm. Got home at 10:30pm, out of my clothes, into the shower, eat some food, in bed by 11:30pm, didn’t sleep very well and up again at 8am and back into work at 4pm later today. I have morning and afternoon to phone my mum, message my friends and family and various chores. There are periods during the month where I’m off for 4 and 5 days here and there so I do get time off but it’s really hard to adjust from working the clock to suddenly stopping. The body catches up with itself and I’ll have a cold, or a headache or a back ache that is mentally put on hold during work. The monastic life would be one of quiet meditation, reading literature and praying. Yup I could do it. The external pressures of modern life can be relentless and we are all reminded of our inadequacies every day through media, phones, billboards, magazines, films etc. I love my home life with my wife and our cats but I’d love even more of it.

You could always work less? I’m not sure that’s an option right now in the UK with inflation and the cost of living. I am looking for something with less hours and better pay. I could work anywhere for less hours and less pay but I don’t want to lose my home either.

Exactly. You get what I mean. It's just a fantasy, but it sounds so much more appealing the older I get, just getting off the treadmill of the 9-5, the grind of working just to pay the bills and cultivating a more spiritual existence. I wonder if there still monasteries filled with hot, young studly monks? That's where I want to go and devote myself to brotherhood and prayer.

You’ll corrupt the entire monastery, have them dressing as MJ and dancing to Madge’s Like A Prayer! I’m going to escape the sex! You’re going to instigate sex! 🤦🏻♂️😂🤣

I’m OVER sex! 😂 I’ve had a lot of amazing sex over the years but there’s more to life. I don’t have the same appetite for it but a role in the hay 3 or 4 times a month is more than enough. I’m not 18 or in my 20’s anymore. 🤦🏻♂️😭😂
