I'm American, but I've occasionally watched a clip from This Morning on YouTube when they've had a guest on whose interview I've been interested in (Miriam Margolyes, Dame Edna etc.)
I keep getting served endless articles about this British morning TV scandal on Facebook, but none of them really provide any detail on what's actually happened. In FB comments there are hundreds of comments from Brits insinuating that Schofield had done something... disreputable, potentially illegal. It reads like thinly veiled homophobia. I know his BROTHER was convicted of child abuse, but, as far as I can tell Phillip has no association with those crimes.
Is the scandal really just that he had a workplace affair with a much younger man who was apparently 20yrs old at the time? THAT is what this is all about? Am I missing something??

He was seeing him way before he was his colleague, he met when the boy was about 11 and the insinuation is that he was grooming him until he was of legal age. Not sure if that's really how it went down, but it doesn't look good to be a man in your mid-fifties in a sexual relationship with someone almost young enough to be your grandson who you've known since a child.

I guess people are suspicious that he waited until he was legal before getting him the job on this morning and then having an affair. It doesn't look good, but I still think the fallout is OTT. It's not a scandal when Madonna dates toyboys young enough to be her grandson. There's definitely undertones of homophobia at play when it comes to how outraged people are with this. And wheres the proof of Phillip grooming him?

Regardless of what went down, people need to give the man time to breath. He didn't commit a crime and doesn't deserve this level of scrutiny. People on Twitter are truly vile.

I think the most interesting part and the people are so annoyed over, is that when ha came out as gay he was described as "so brave" and all that carry on, despite his wife of 20 odd years sitting at home like a fool watching the whole pantomime play out. But not only that, when he came out all of these "grooming" stories came out on social media about the young guy in question. If it was women he had been chasing for years it would have been quite a different story but ITV turned it into a Tale of Triumph. So, the question to be asked was why the British media (well known to be absolute vultures, see Michael Jackson for example) and there was not a peep about it in ANY publication until Schofield came out and admitted it recently. There was quite clearly a super-injunction taken out, as the British media (or world media for that matter) would NEVER sit on such a story while very detailed and believable stories were passed around on Twitter, Facebook etc. Every single thing about the story from start to finish is incredibly weird. What more is that all of the stories that were pushed on Twitter back when he came out have all basically been confirmed. I believe that ITV bosses allegedly tried to cover up the relationship is another issue. The whole thing is super odd, especially after Operation Yewtree. The smoke and mirrors of both the relationship and subsequent cover up are more of a story than the relationship itself.

Oh God, I'm sick of hearing about it. Almost makes me miss Harry and Meghan. Almost.

It's pure homophobia as I see it.

When Schofield and the orange "Cancel Oil" lads are the only things making news then you know it's been a quiet few weeks.
The sun has been out for 7 days in a row here in Ireland so expect horrific death numbers in the coming days.

It's pure homophobia as I see it. I agree. Older man has a relationship with a 20yr old man at work and gets called a nonce for it. It's pretty disgusting.

All the homophobes have been waiting to get him since him and Holly pissed on the Queen's coffin. And probably since it was revealed that he knew about his convicted pedo brother messing with a kid...
The online reaction is pretty pathetic though. It always is with this stuff.
Chris Tarrant never recovered after that affair did he.

Chris Tarrant never recovered after that affair did he. One thing I'm finding particularly repulsive about the whole thing is how Eamon Holmes is going on telly everyday gloating about Phils demise. I saw him on telly this morning asking for "anyone else who may have kissed Phillip schofield to come forward"... as if kissing someone is now a crime. What a vile piece of work Eamon is.
