I don't want this to turn into another thread about MJ's death, so try not to talk about him too much if you can, as there's plenty of threads about it in the MJ section of the forum. And this is the off topic section after all. You can of course, if you absolutely have to
No celebrity death has hit me harder than MJ, but I left him out of my list because I want to talk about others. And because I don't really feel like talking about it too much
My list is not very long..
In order of death:
Freddie Mercury, 1991 He was the first of my idols to go. Though I was only 12 at the time, and I didn't really understand much. I didn't even know what aids was at the time (I asked my mom, she said it was a disease, and that was all I needed to know, really). But I think I was honestly mostly sad because my mom was so sad about it. I remember there was a lot of sadness in our house because of his death
Steve Irwin, 2006 Big fan of his, and I was so in denial when he died, for some reason. I still miss him to this day, and watching his shows is still hard. And his family. It's still so weird seeing them without him. I don't think I will ever get used to that. But I still follow them
David Bowie, 2016 I grew up with a lot of great music, thanks to my mom. And he was one of them. When he died, a part of my childhood died
Bob Saget, 2022 A sad day when he died so suddenly. The only stand-up comedian I ever really liked, as I usually hate stand-up. But he was different. Love him for his acting too, of course. Still too early to watch any of his stuff
Lisa Marie Presley, 2023 To this day I still don't understand why her death hit me so hard. It really took me by surprise. I was never a fan of her. The only reason I can think of, is because I'm such a big Elvis fan, and maybe because she was a part of MJ's life. So she must have meant something to me, after all

Heath Ledger - right at the top of his craft after The Dark Knight. What could have been?
Brandon Lee - same as above with The Crow which clearly influenced Ledger's Joker.
Bruce Lee - obviously many years later as a teen! Same as the other two above - at the top and he never got to see the success of Enter The Dragon.

Lisa Marie. I know they divorced and all, but she still was an important part of MJ's life and I had a soft spot for her.

Amy Winehouse, Prince, Bowie, George Michael.
Tina Turner. My mam is a massive fan and I’m a fan by extension.

I'd have to say Lisa Marie for me too, but it hit nowhere near as hard as Michael's death.
It hasn't happened yet, but when Patrick Stewart goes I know his passing will hit me pretty hard.

Bowie was rough. I think it was just how out of the blue it felt. It's weird, because I'm a much bigger Prince fan than I am a Bowie fan, but I felt much more winded and sad when Bowie passed. I think it was a combination of factors, one being the fact that Bowie is a lot more relatable and down-to-earth than Prince ever was, plus also, Prince's death was only a matter of weeks after Bowie's and there's only so much grief you can feel before it all starts to go a bit numb.
Of course, MJs death hit hardest of all, in terms of celebrity deaths. It was my first true taste of losing somebody dear to me and it damn near broke my heart.

Bowie was embedded within British culture and was always just there. He was like part of the furniture, a mainstay and someone we just assumed would always be around. I wasn’t really that into him but weirdly I bought his album a few days before he died. Well, it was only released a few days before he died.

This might well have been a reason I took it as hard as I did. I do love Bowie too, I think I just didn't expect to take his passing harder than Prince's. It actually bothered me for a while that I wasn't more upset about Prince's death. But I think I always admired Prince more as some other-worldly creative genius figure and whilst the love I have of his music runs deep, I'm not sure I really connected much to who he was as a public figure. In many way he came off as a bit self-centred and didn't exactly treat his collaborators or even his own fans that well. I've read a lot of stories like that about him. Still wish he was still here though, making purple magic the way only he could.

Prince I was gutted but more in shock. I’d been into Prince for quite a few years by that point. Yeah I think Prince was a bit of a tosser at times.

ONJ.
I had to rename my two cats Olivia and Sandy, because it was too painful to keep being reminded of her. They won't come to me when I call them now and the other day one of them scratched my face. I swear it's because of the name change.

Olive & Sandy will both end up raging alcoholics in later life drunkenly begging for your love and approval!

Defaming Judy and/or Liza will get you more than a few dozen bitchslaps and a lifetime ban from almost any gay club worth its salt. You better watch your back if you ever find yourself walking through Soho bitch, the gay mafia are onto you!!
