Hugely talented woman but unfortunately, like MJ, she was the very definition of a tortured artist.
For her, I am glad she is free from the pain she so obviously struggled with in life. May she RIP.

Oh I didn't know. So tragic. Aged 17. Suicide. As with Lisa Marie, she died eighteen months after her son.

I was so sad to see this news but had mixed emotions as only days ago a post about Sinead had mostly comments saying she'd be dead soon. 😔 I just chalked it down to the internet being a mean place.
I personally met Sinead at least a dozen times over the years...my best friend in my youth dated her brother for 3 years... She was just very very shy, not at all like her ballsy, eccentric reputation.
Anyways, a huge talent, a huge loss and another sad showbiz story. May she find peace. Respect. X

She was hospitalized in January 2022 after making suicidal threats. This was just after her 17-year-old son Shane's suicide.
She tweeted:

Oh, this is sad. One of my ex boyfriends was a big fan, so I know quite a bit of her music. She was a bit scary when she first came out, but it gave her songs a bit of an edge. And let's face it, she was ahead of her time for calling out the Catholic Church for their misdeeds!
I love that she just pogo sticked from one religion to another and one Religious Order to another making sure to take a big dump on every one of them on the way out. As someone who abhors organised religion in all its forms, I have to respect that.
RIP Sinead, you were one of a kind.

She had a troubled life. I suspect suicide. She had borderline personality disorder. Triggered by a terribly abusive childhood. It was evident throughout her life — and also in her art. The intense emotions and impulsivity. Terrible illness but she was able to channel her strong feelings into some of the most deeply moving pop songs. Her “ripping up the picture of the Pope” stunt on SNL was truly one of the most shocking moments in modern day pop culture. now , of course, strippers perform on SNL and rappers pretend to have sex with the Devil so none of this is shocking. But I think in 1990 when Sinead O’Connor pulled that stunt it was a different time. The fact that people still remember and talk about it all these years later shows what a shock it was, so taboo, so threatening and terrifying to people. I mean Marilyn Manson was never ever ever able to achieve that level of horror for middle class America, and believe me he tried. What a terrible sad story. her son’s death was just too much for her and with her borderline personality she just couldn’t handle the emotions. I can’t remember the stats but the risk of suicide among borderlines is HUGE. From all the unusual behavior we saw from Sinead over the years, she was clearly seeking help for her illness but she just could never get to a stable place. RIP

I know there was a lot more to her than Nothing Compares 2 U, but her cover of that really is one of the greatest songs ever written imho. Obviously big respect to Prince for writing it, but it was Sinead who brought the song to life.
