Safe, tepid, bland, predicable rock music for those who don't like rock or metal. The Foos are more pop than rock as their material in general is pretty lightweight.
Personally prefer Grohl's other recordings (except Nirvana, never got to grips with grunge) namely Queens of the Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures.

Absolutely not. They've worked hard and made some really good songs over the years. I would say they've never written a masterpiece, a November Rain or a War Pigs or a Billie Jean or a Purple Rain. But they are good at what they do and aren't as lightweight as their critics make out.
I don't think it's fair to say that it's rock music for people who don't like rock or metal. I love loads of rock/metal, but I can still appreciate a good melody when I hear one.

Nope.
I'm not the biggest fan and don't listen to a lot of their stuff, but I really like their new album and they put a fucking hell of a performance. I mean Dave Grohl literally broke his leg on stage and kept going, which while is not medically the best thing to do (although he had support for his leg on stage, a doctor held it in position haha), it shows his utmost dedication to his fans which must be applauded. Such a great guy overall, I love watching interviews with him.

I think so.
But it's nothing to do with any kind of rock snobbery. I just find them pretty bland.
I saw them live numerous times at various ensemble/festival line-ups in the mid 00's and then I see them headlining festivals and doing basically the same sets now.
I actually saw a band busking in town the other week playing 'Times Like These' and thought the singer was better than Dave.
To me they're completely inoffensive but nothing to get excited about.

Their new album is pretty great, their best since Echoes, Patience, Silence & Grace. Check out the song Dirty Water:

Haven't bought one of their albums since Wasting Light, which I found to be a bit lacking compared to their older stuff. They peaked around In Your Honour/Echoes time, if you ask me. I gave Sonic Highways a go, but found it mostly unremarkable and it kind of put me off checking out their latest. I may give it a listen eventually though.

Concrete & Gold is very different to Sonic Highways, much more like a traditional Foos record. Definitely check out Make It Right, Dirty Water, Sunday Rain & The Line.

Sonic Highways didn't do much for me but I really enjoyed Concrete and Gold. Those tracks mjjfan810 suggests are good starting points! Arrows also feels classic Foos to me.

Yes, but I don't mind it as Dave Grohl is a nice guy and an honest guy, he said some straight up kind stuff about Prince.

Been listening to C&G a fair bit this past week, and was surprised that Arrows hasn't been a single yet. As you say, it has all the hallmarks of a classic Foos track! It's a great little album actually - I haven't enjoyed a FF album this much since Echoes, Patience, Silence & Grace. HIStoric - did you know Paul McCartney plays drums on Sunday Rain? I'm sure you already know that, but I think of you when I hear these things.
