Came across some cool footage on YouTube (if it's been posted before I missed it):

MJ had such a noble aura around him during this period. You could see he went through a lot and he also had a kind of sadness in him but at the same time he was so noble - wore everything he went through with so much dignity.

Beautifully said, respect, I get the same vibe when I see him during these years.

I remember thinking when that interview and photoshoot originally came out, 'sadness and dignity'

I totally agree with your comments, Tony and respect. I also can't help but feel something had changed about Michael by this point. In all the footage I have seen from these photoshoots (other snippets were released previously), he appears happy and excited at first glance. But it is not the beaming, joyful smile we were used to seeing even until the early 00s. There seems to be, as you say, a certain sadness underneath it all which, given everything that happened, is of course not surprising. I also noticed the same thing in some of the TII footage, such as the Making of the Smooth Criminal section. He is very humble and polite, he smiles, he does his job and he does it well - the Michael we know. But the exuberant energy he always had is not really there. It's like he's trying to grasp and recapture it, but can't. Now, maybe I am just reading too much into things. Maybe he just had a bad day. In the audio of the 2007 Ebony interview he always sounded very animated to me, for instance. But I can't help but notice it. Whatever happened exactly at 7.22 in this clip, whether Michael was physically hurting or just very uncomfortable, was also sad to see. To end on a more positive note: I loved how he automatically started bopping his head when Baby Be Mine started playing at 1.56.

Michael looked so gorgeous in the L'Uomo Vogue shoot but it broke my heart seeing him sad like all the evil people who went after him took most of the happiness and positivity he irradiated. Not even his children seemed to give him enough happiness.

He looked so pure and fragile. His makeup was great in this.

Whatever happened exactly at 7.22 in this clip, whether Michael was physically hurting or just very uncomfortable, was also sad to see. I wonder if that's related to his head/scalp injuries? What they were doing doesn't seem like it'd hurt most people (and you could tell they were completely unaware Michael was uncomfortable) but knowing that Michael had continued issues with his head after the Pepsi incident makes me wonder. On a more positive note, he looked really good here. Beautiful combination of photography, lighting, makeup, costume design, etc

I guess he either had physical pain or maybe he was uncomfortable with them touching his hair/head.

He definitely looked great and healthy during this period, if a little thin. As others have said he looked animated and very present. Although you can tell that he's just there to do what he needs to do and is trying to put on a happy face.

These look better than the first one I posted. Gotta admit, not used to seeing video footage of Michael in this quality.

I agree that the photo shoot turned out beautiful, but I'm really disturbed by the poking and prodding of his clothes and especially his hair. You can tell he's bothered by it- He's such a pro and tries to act nonchalant about it-"Hey, how's it going? Good?" Then sways back and forth to LIML just to get in his own world.
There may be more like this, and maybe that's why the Estate is reluctant to OK the release. This little part makes me quite sad.
