Okay, so these two albums are widely considered to be the best Jacksons albums (and for good reason), so lets have it out, which one is the best?
For me, whilst I genuinely love both albums, I would have to go with Triumph. It is like the perfect bridge between OTW and Thriller. I always say to people, no MJ album collection is complete without Triumph (and sadly, I am usually met with blank faces from people who don't know the album even exists).
So many great songs, Walk Right Now, Lovely One, Heartbreak Hotel, Time Waits For No One, Can You Feel It, Your Ways, Everybody. I even love Wondering Who, although I'm aware that may be an unpopular opinion.
As a footnote, I would like to add that I also rate Destiny highly and I love that album too, I just think MJ had developed more as a songwriter and singer by the time of the Triumph album.

Destiny for me, but I agree, they're both strong albums.
Poor Victory lol

I'll take Triumph all day over Destiny. Can You Feel It, Lovely One, Everybody, Heartbreak Hotel, and Wondering Who. Everybody is just as basslicious as Get On the Floor. MJ takes give you a sneak peek into his solo world on Everybody and Heartbreak Hotel. Heartbreak Hotel is just a masterpiece.
Destiny has some beautiful moments, but Triumph is a whole other level.

I continue to discover Triumph in new ways that I don't with Destiny. So for now, I give it to Triumph. That may change.

Both are nice albums, but I prefer Destiny. The songs are more distinctive, they form a tighter and more cohesive package, and the overall sound of the album is more unique than on Triumph (which indeed feels like a bridge between OTW and Thriller, only not as good as either).

If I am pressed to choose then Triumph and I agree that it's a brigde between OTW and Thriller. Whoever likes those two albums and especially OTW, should also listen to Triumph! As far as I am concerned it is just as much an MJ album as OTW (in fact, MJ wrote more songs on Triumph than on OTW) and it pains me that even many fans ignore it just because it is not in his solo catalog.
On the other hand I also love Destiny, for different reasons. To me Destiny is MJ's most personal album until Dangerous. Just listen to the lyrics of Things I Do For You, Bless His Soul, That's What You Get (For Being Polite) etc. Although most songs are credited simply to "The Jacksons" but I would be surprised if those lyrics weren't written by MJ.

I think I'm inclined to go with Destiny. I think the strongest cuts on Triumph wipe the floor with the strongest material on Destiny, but as a whole album, Destiny is more consistent. Triumph has a number of album tracks which I don't feel are that strong, such as Give It Up, Wondering Who and Your Ways. These songs bring down the overall quality of proceedings, especially sitting next to such incredible gems like Walk Right Now, Heartbreak Hotel and Can You Feel It.
There really isn't a single track on Destiny which stands out as the weak link. I also prefer the instrumentation on Destiny, there aren't any cheesy synths and corny sound effects, which sometimes plagues some of the material on Triumph. I also appreciate that Destiny feels like a more personal work lyrically and completely agree with respect77 (as usual) that it is MJ's most personal album until Dangerous.

Triumph for me as well. Like MattyJam said the strong tracks on Triumph are stronger than anything on Destiny.
Can You Feel It is still so special to me. I thinks it's MJ's (Jacksons') best socially conscious track maybe up until TDCAU (Or Jam). Yes I like it better than Man In The Mirror.
You wanna tell me about equality and make me wanna dance at the same time? Yes Please.
And Heartbreak Hotel is just a masterpiece. Does anyone know if that track has a 12" extended single treatment because that song is so amazingly arranged that it could go for 8 minutes and I'd still be listening

That song often doesnโt get the credit it deserves I feel. It was also always a great track live. I especially loved seeing MJ dust it off at the MSG 2001 show, as it had been so many years since heโd performed it live and he really nailed it.

^^^ That whole 2001 set with his brothers was great. I know MJ wasn't quite himself for those shows, but I feel that mainly showed during his solo set. The section with his brothers was fantastic, seeing him perform songs like Can You Feel It, Dancing Machine and Shake Your Body again after so many years was a real treat. And I always felt there was something extra emotional about his performance of I'll Be There that night.
Anyway, I digress....

I always maintain MJ is completely out of tune for Dancing Machine... it sounds "off" yet still sounds good because he's spitting! But yeah the Jacksons segment is class. Way better than what I saw in Oxford this year... Oh and Triumph is better. It has Heartbreak Hotel. End. Roll credits. Close thread.

Both are stunning. Toss of a coin really. For this thread though I'll go with Destiny.

I don't even know why Voctory is there, Jacksons is easily my 3rd favourite, lots of smooth singing and that Philly Sound. Show you the way to go, Dreamer, Enjoy Yourself and Blues Away are amazing.
Destiny is a great album, but Triumph is even better, Walk right now, Lovely one, Heartbreak Hotel - I mean just wow. I also consider it a dress rehearsal for Thriller too.
My order of Jacksons stuff 1. Triumph 2. Destiny 3. Jacksons .. Long drop to .. 4. Victory 5. Goin Places 6. 2300 Jackson Street
