As the yuletide season is now upon us, what are your favourite Christmas songs/albums?
For me, I get a bit weary of the ones you constantly hear getting played in shops, like The Pogues, Mariah Carey, John Lennon and Slade.
But I do enjoy Christmas themed albums, which aren't whored to death by retail outlets and the media.
Annie Lennox released a brilliant Christmas album a few years back called a Christmas Cornucopia. Despite the dreadful artwork, it is actually a really beautiful listen:
This is a varied set with crystal clear vocals that lend itself atmospherically to the Christmas songs included. The Coventry Carol is exceptional:

I like classical Christmas carols (particularly German ones). It's very atmospheric.
Poppier Christmas material is very hit and miss to me. With only a few exceptions, almost every Christmas song made since the mid-70s that is not done in a retro style is awful to me. I do enjoy 40s/50s/60s crooner records (Nat King Cole's 'The Christmas Song'-kinda stuff). With that said, my favorite Christmas song is probably Donny Hathaway's This Christmas. But that's just a great R&B record that I would also listen to during the rest of the year if not for the Christmas lyrics and sleigh bells.

I love LOTS of favourite Christmas songs!
I'm not sure if this is a favourite - yet! - but there's also something very warm and inviting about this meeting/duet between David Bowie and Bing Crosby:

There you go. The only Christmas album you'll ever need.

As long as they're secular or love songs with a Christmas feeling , I love them.
I love Ella Fitzgerald versions. The First Lady of Jazz had the voice of an angel, miles superior to Mariah Carey's.

Tori Amos did a beautiful Christmas album a few years back, called Midwinter Graces.
It was a mix of original and traditional seasonal songs and was pretty stunning:
