I really dug this album when it came out and have been playing it a bit this last week and I really think it stands up as her best album since TVR.
Fave tracks:
Burnitup After You Fall Shoulda Known Better Unbreakable The Great Forever
As a side note, my baby loves it also, and it's one of the only things that will soothe him to stop crying!!!

My favourites are Unbreakable, No sleeep, Shoulda Known Better and Broken Hearts Heal. And this is so cute, your baby is going to have a great taste in music, lol

He also loves Off The Wall and Invincible.
If I play anything non-Jackson it doesn't work. It's really quite strange.

I didn't care for it. Haven't liked any of her post-90s work.

That's interesting. There are a lot of theories why certain songs calm down babies. Did your wife/girlfriend listen to some Jackson Albums in her pregnancy? lol www.momjunction.com/articles/music-during-pregnancy_00391526/?amp=1 "Many researchers believe that your unborn baby will be able to remember the music and the sounds that you listened to while you were pregnant. If you listen to certain soothing songs while you are pregnant, it is highly likely that your baby will remember them even after birth. It means that you can use the same music to sooth your little one after it is born. Your baby will be able to recognize the sounds and it will help to relax and calm your baby instantly."

I haven't listened to the album yet. Her previous albums were disappointing and I didn't think much of the lead single from Unbreakable.

I didn't care for it. Haven't liked any of her post-90s work. I liked All for You and Discipline but the quality of her work had seriously declined in the 00's. I liked the more calm and mature songs on Unbreakable.

I really like Unbreakable. I also think it is her best album since the Velvet Rope.
All for You was cool but very radio-friendly compared to TVR. Discipline was more interesting but something was missing from this album to be as enjoyable as "Control" or "Rhythm Nation 1814" are.
Unbreakable is definitely a more personal and unique album. Janet didn't follow trends and was just being herself.
She should keep working with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis : they know her and she knows them.

I liked the more calm and mature songs on Unbreakable. I think you hit the nail on the head. Janet's best work always had a maturity to it, which she seemed to lose sight of with her 00s work, and she finally seemed to regain with Unbreakable. She even admits to running out of ideas on one of the interludes on Damita Jo. There's this one interlude where she lists all the topics she's covered in her music and then asks what she should sing about on this album and comes to the conclusion that she just wants to have fun. I also remember reading an interview with Jimmy Jam where he was discussing the 20YO album and said that Janet had told him she didn't know what to sing about anymore. I actually quite like a lot of the songs on Damita Jo, 20YO and Discipline, I think the songs are still there, they just lacked that personal touch from Janet. A song like Feedback for example, is a catchy track, but it could've been anyone singing that, whereas you wouldn't be able to say that about the songs on her first four albums or Unbreakable.

Did she really admit it? Lol I rarely listen to the Interludes, I liked them on Rhythm Nation and Janet. but she overdid it. There are just too many and they really disturb the listening experience in my eyes.
I think it really helped that there was so much happening in her life (her marriage, her new faith,Michael's death) that she was finally able to reflect on things rather than just singing about things people might like. I'm really looking forward to her new album, might be interesting to know what she thinks of motherhood etc.

I think the interlude MattyJam talks about is actually the 20 YO intro.
Well, now that she has a baby, I suppose more hits are about to come!!

I think there were a couple of good songs on the first half, but it goes off the boil on the second half. There is literally nothing worth listening to on the second half of Unbreakable.
