I guess I have to announce and it made me a bit unpopular on MJJC, but I am obsessed with Prince and his genius.
I just love him as he was so musically talented and his music is just incredible.
I was hardcore MJ until 1991, but then discovered Prince and realised I could be hardcore about Prince and Michael Jackson. It is hard to choose one over the other as both are so talented and funky, and both have genre defining and life changing songs. I love Michael, don't get me worng, but Prince is something else, Prince's talent could not be explained, he wrote thousands of songs for himself and other people.
He was funky and could write a range of music from pop and rock to heavily sexualised R and B jams, mellow blues, free form jazz, techno, gospel and even hip hop. Prince released 39 official albums under his name and various monikers in his lifetime along with numerous albums for satellite acts like The Time, Sheila E, Vanity 6, Apollonia 6, The Family, Madhouse and many more. He also gave iconic hits to people likeSinead O'Connor, Martika and Chaka Khan, some even say that Madonna's Diamond album Like a Prayer was a Prince creation.
Most of us Michael Jackson fans at least know of Prince and many of us love his music too, so let us talk about Prince and his genius.
Hearing Prince is one thing, but seeing him perform is another, most of his shows and tours were massive multi band affairs supporting the latest album or a greatest hits type revue. But his last and most poignant tour last year before he passed away on April 21st 2016, was merely him and a piano playing his most iconic songs off his legendary 80s albums like Purple Rain and Sign of the times.
Prince's most well known and successful albums were from the 80s, but he put music out right to his death and many were hit and miss, but even his worst albums had one or two things which showed his talent.
So what do you all think of his Royal Badness.

Prince is a legend and I am a big fan.
I think MJ had more of a God given gift than Prince, but there's no denying they were both exceptionally gifted.
My favourite Prince songs are Computer Blue, Sign O The Times, Controversy and Purple Rain. I like some of his 90s albums as well, especially The Gold Experience. I didn't really enjoy much from his 00's output, just a handful of good songs scattered amongst a lot of mediocre ones.

Massive Prince fan here. I own everything he ever did, plus all the bootlegs etc.
Finally got round to listening to my Purple Rain deluxe edition yesterday. Some great stuff on there, especially Roadhouse Garden, which I had only previously heard in very poor quality live audio.

I enjoyed some of the Purple Rain deluxe. Some good songs, some interesting songs, some stuff that should've remained unreleased.
Fidelity-wise, disc 2 is an embarrassment. If they can't put together a truly 'release quality' package, I'd just as soon let the vault stuff remain in the vault. Releasing unfinished material is questionable enough, but doing so in this fasion is an insult to P's legacy.

Prince is probably my second favourite artist of all time, after MJ.
Love his entire catalogue, including the protegee releases, from bands like The Time and The Family. I also loved the album he did with Chaka Khan.

Prince... this guy is really something else π !
One of the greatest performers and music artists of the last 30 years.
I've listened to 1999, Diamonds and Pearls and Purple Rain lately.

I agree partially, Katrina's paper dolls and Velvet Kitty Kat are demos and like most remasters, the mastering is pretty shitty. The original album is a lot louder, but not any clearer. But I can't agree when there are classics on that disc like We Can Fuck, Computer Blue Hallway Speech, Dance Electric, Electric Intercourse, Fathers Song, Roadhouse Garden and Possessed. Those songs are just blinders from start to finish. That whole set has made my year and hopefully it will inspire the "Estate" to release a posthumous MJ product that can meet its mettle. Russg, I have to know what you thought of We Can Fuck, because that thing is incredible and that it grows on you. Originally I did not like the studio mix of Electric Intercourse, as I was obsessed with the boots of it, but it has grown on me and now I love it more than the boot.

I'm completely obsessed with Electric Intercourse studio. So much so, I'm giving serious consideration to saying I think it's a better song than The Beautiful Ones, and I love that song, so trust me when I say, that's high praise. I also enjoyed the We Can Fuck demo, although tend to skip the 3 minute dialogue at the end which is a bit pointless.

I actually prefer the Graffiti Bridge version of WCF. I know that I'm very much in the minority on that, but I miss the "I'm testing positive for the funk" chorus in the demo version.
It is nice to FINALLY have an official release for songs like Possessed, Wonderful Ass and Computer Blue Hallway, but most of these songs have been circulating as boots in similarly good quality for a while now. The most exciting part of the PR remaster was hearing the studio version of Electric Intercourse (which I agree with yourself and Matty is fab), and the studio version of Fathers Song, which is totally different to what I expected and kind of reminds me of something that could be on Bowie's Low album.

BIG Prince fan. Got to see him 4 times live. The last time was on the HiTnRuN Tour in Detroit which was stunningly good. I absolutely love the soundboard recording of the show too. It's a great document of the last time I got to see him.
