Okay I think we all agree that Janet used to do much better music before those albums came out. But I have been listening to them a lot lately, and there are some really great songs on them, hidden between a lot of mediocre ones.
My top three on each album:
Damita Jo: All Nite, I Want You, R&B Junkie
20 YO: Daybreak, So Excited, Call On Me
Discipline: Rock With You, Feedback, So Much Betta
What are yours?

Yeah, these three seem to be considered the black sheep of her career, but I consider 20Y0 one of her best albums. It's just a fun, great pop/R&B album, without all the cheap, overly sexual stuff that ruined AFY and Damita Jo. I love most of the songs on that album, especially Enjoy, Show Me, Daybreak, Get It Out Me, So Excited and Take Care. I like how the first half was just fun, party songs produced with Jermaine Dupri and the second half was more the traditional JJ sound produced by Jam & Lewis.
Discipline feels a bit Janet-lite and is by far her worst album. You can really feel the absence of Jam & Lewis on this record, and other than a small handful of tracks (mainly the ones you mentioned, plus Can't B Good), it's really rather throwaway.
Damita Jo is patchy, but overall, it has some nice moments. I particularly like Truly, I Want You and Just A Little While (such a fun pop-rock track).

^Did Janet write songs for those albums? I feel like there is something missing over all, something personal.
But I agree, especially 20 YO isn't as bad as most people claim. But I wouldn't say it is even close to Rhythm Nation or Janet.

I believe she co wrote an interlude on Discipline lol. The interludes got way out of hand imo. But I like hearing Janet talk on her albums for some reason π

Discipline: Rock With You, Feedback, So Much Betta
Those are all good tracks and it's cool you mentioned So Much Betta - I really love that one! Always reminded me of MJ for some reason. I can see MJ bopping and popping to that track in my head! It reminds me of the futuristic sound he was going for on songs like 2000 Watts, Heartbreaker etc.

I'm not sure if I have any of those albums, but I stream them sometimes. All Nite is gorgeous as is Feedback.
