I thought we should have non-MJ one as well I first thought we could start with MJ-associated artists, but decided against it since a lot of them are discussed here quite often. So I picked The Nobodies by Marilyn Manson. This is possibly my fave song by Manson, and can relate to it in so many ways. I usually listen to this when I'm in the mood for SIM. For non-fans, below are links to the official video and the gorgeous acoustic version. Video: Acoustic:

He wrote this about the Columbine shooters, right?

There seems to be a connection with the shootings and the vidoe according to wikipedia, but I dont think the song was written about Colombine

The Nobodies is one of my favourite MM songs, along with The Reflecting God and Tourniquet. It really packs a punch emotionally. Good choice for first Non-MJ Song of the week bedroom!

I like the idea of a non-MJ SOTW thread, but I can't bring myself to listen to Marilyn Manson I'm afraid. I have too much childhood Catholic guilt deeply ingrained in my pysche.

That's one of the reasons to listen to his music actually. I also have guilt issues, and MM music's anger and sorrow is definitely a good catharsis for those feelings

MM have so many great songs. Their best of album ...lest we forget...is a must have for fans of 90s music. I love those songs you mentioned, plus Coma White and Count to 6 and Die. I know people here are die-hard 80s fans. But his rendition of Sweet Dreams is incredible, and is almost the only version of that song that I listen to.

This is a special song for me, and made even more special when he sang this in London in December. It reminds me of my friend who died when we were 16. We were always odd, and kind of suited to this song. I know theres a massive Columbine reference with this song, but its such a strong message.
Holywood is such a special album. Mechanical Animals is my album, but Holywood is a masterpiece from start to finish.

I got a chill, and was just like "Fuuuuck". And then the world was put into perspective

There seems to be a connection with the shootings and the vidoe according to wikipedia, but I dont think the song was written about Colombine What I heard was that it was in answer to the criticism MM got after Columbine, people trying to blame them (when in reality the perpetrators weren't fans of MM). So what I remember hearing is that the song is about the Columbine shooters and they are the nobodies in it. But I guess like most art it can have many interpretations.

Thats my interpratation of it "when we're dead, youll know just who we are". You hit the nail on the head. It could also be said its being sung from the perspective of the victims. Its a fantastic song. The video has elements of the catholic church abusing children also

Marilyn Manson has been on my list of artists to check out now for years! I'm gonna give this a listen. Start with Antichrist Superstar, then Mechanical Animals then Holywood for authentic effect EDIT- Then listen to them in the reverse order as this is how MM said the story goes.
