I thought Queen Elizabeth would get to live over 100 years as the Queen Mother did. May she rest in peace. I hope Charles doesn't get to the throne and and they choose William instead. I wouldn't stand to see that dog's barf face (Camilla) as the Queen. From tomorrow, the Accession Council will formally declare King Charles III.

Who would have thought from being the mistress of the heir apparent Prince, Camilla would be Queen. ๐คฎ Unless she has another title for being Charles's second wife.

I was just thinking that all my life she's been Queen, but not only that: my parents' life as well. Her rule just seemed to be one of those things that never changes. Let her rest in peace. Even more, it's unlikely we will see another Queen in our lifetime.

So, how is public life affected then during the period of mourning for you guys? Is anything shut/postponed?
It was quite surreal watching Charles greet people so casually at Buckingham there as if he was Joe Soap.

Likely to be Monday 19th September. Some sporting events have been cancelled. www.bbc.com/sport/62840622IIRC, Westminster and all devolved Parliaments have ceased all political business until after the State Funeral. This is so they can all do their bit in preparing for the day itself. I think that's about it for now. It'll be different in a week.

I never knew that some eejit shot 6 blanks from a fake gun at her during a parade while she was on a horse, and she remained calm on the horse calming the horse.
I was not expecting my day to end thinking that the Queen was bad ass. And the fact it's on film.

The King Charles vs Pens stuff isn't really helping any arguments about the Royal Family and a disconnect to the common man. He is still grieving though I guess, but he's not off to a great start with the Tik Tok generation.
It is hard not to think of the obscene cost of everything to do with the funeral etc. at such a sensitive time for people money wise though. I'd imagine when the dust settles there will be some form of backlash.

I'd imagine when the dust settles there will be some form of backlash. To be fair, the Tik Tok generation has a short attention span, no sense of nuance and regularly blow things out of proportion. However, yesterday continued to show the King in a very good light with his visit to Northern Ireland, Royal Hillsborough in Royal County Down. Not to mention his visits to Scotland and Wales. The Monarchy will continue to have majority support into the future, especially when some realise it does unify the people at various times in a way politicians cannot do. The institution is a very important part of the UK's global soft power ranking - we're second only to the United States. UK State Funerals is comparable to American ones. The last such funeral in the UK was in 1965 for Churchill which cost ยฃ2.5 million in today's money. The last one in the United States for Bush, Snr cost $540 million. They are rare, but are expensive when they happen and provide a focal point for the unity of a nation.

Clearly the vast majority approve of the pageantry but I think that just given the awful timing, what with people already wondering if they will have enough money to heat the house for winter etc. that the cost of everything will push many of those that tread somewhere down the middle could be very angry by the time all this is over. I already see medical appointments, funerals etc. be cancelled on the day of the funeral. It will be interesting to see (in retrospect) what could change given that we know that neither Charles nor William will reign for 70 years so the small print could change for the future.

There is no legal or governmental requirement for businesses to close or anything like that. That's at the discretion of any employer, so if any person is angry about that then they should be directing that at employers rather than the Royals. As can be understood in context here: apnews.com/article/fact-check-queen-funerals-not-canceled-298563935570fullfact.org/news/funerals-can-still-go-ahead-on-Monday/I fully expect there will be people who will blatantly ignore that fact because its inconvenient to their anti-Monarchy rants. There has always been and always will be poor people as well as unfortunate timings. It's not really a reason for any country NOT to spend millions on various types of events, including events of national significance. The two are separate issues. To assert otherwise would be to fall into the False Dilemma Fallacy. So, I doubt there will be a major change in regards to the Monarchy. Constitutional Monarchies are not necessarily more expensive than Republics, you know.

I wouldn't have a clue of the last part if I'm honest (but I'd imagine that monarch or Republican costs should be scrutinised regardless, IMO), I'm only commenting as an outsider so I don't mean any disrespect at all but it will be interesting nonetheless when the dust settles as I have 2 friends - 1 of which would be pro monarchy and the other is not anti monarchy but would be more pro than anti - and they have both said that at this point they're really beginning to wonder about the cost of it all.
