I just came off it. Why hang around in a room where 99% of the people there are filled with hatred and rage?
I stay for the memes and funny videos and stuff if I'm honest.
I always find Twitter very conflicting, in the sense there’s a lot of great content on there. You can find interesting discussions about all sorts of things you never thought about, lots of funny content, and if you have particular hobbies or fields of interests, following the right people in those fields can result in some really great content - it’s that kind of stuff that keeps me coming back. There have been posts that have genuinely changed my mind about things or raises good points that have me thinking.
The downside is you have to wade through a lot of shit. It’s a horrible platform to have debates on so you just see a lot of shit spoken, people often use the worst arguments logically and it gets you wondering if it’s a limitation of the platform or how those people actually function (or both). Sometimes I’ll see people get upset over the stupidest shit (from both sides of the aisle) that makes you just roll your eyes. You can quickly reach an over saturation, and the last few months I’ve found myself muting topics that I get sick of hearing about - like the Depp vs Heard trial, or the Will Smith slap. There was a while there I had a bunch of Trump/republican terms muted because I was sick of hearing about them and all their fuck ups. It’s not just limited to those topics either. Yet I keep going back because there’s enough good content on there.
I think it can be a real good breeding ground for misinformation too. Speaking of Elvis, to bring it back on topic, I’ve seen a looot of people call him racist or that he ‘stole’ from the black man when really if you actually knew your stuff, he wasn’t a racist and he not only refuted the title of King of Rock’n’Roll (instead saying Fats Domino is the true King of it), but always credited the origins of where his music came from. But on Twitter, you’ll have someone call him a racist because he stole black music, and then someone will see that tweet (with little information - due to both character limits and ignorance on behalf of the author) and then spread it on. It’s dangerously cyclical.
