"Madonna was born in Bay City, Michigan, on August 16, 1958. In 1981, she went solo as a pop singer and became a sensation on the then male-dominated '80s music scene. By 1991, she had achieved 21 Top 10 hits in the United States and sold more than 70 million albums internationally." This thread is Specifically for fans!
There's a few of us here. If you hate Madonna start a I hate Madonna thread. Don't do it here! I have binged on her the past week and it's been glorious! I've devoured Rebel Heart, snacked on the 80's album's, and am obsessed with her remix album You Can Dance! Second biggest remix album ever behind a certain Mr MJ. You Can Dance sold 5 million. Currently my favourite tour is Blond Ambition. It's up there with my all time favourite concerts. Lets discuss Madge. TonyR and @liberian Girl I need your vast knowledge and input here.

Some familiar faces on The Blond Ambition Tour. David Williams, Jonathan Moffett and Vincent Paterson Co-directed.
I know there’s 3 professionally shot shows available but I’m wondering if there’s a blu ray? I saw some incredible clips from it in HD but it was probably from Truth Or Dare blu ray?
This is the show I watched. Superb. There’s a few more available.

It's well annoying that two of her best tours are not available on Blu Ray, Blonde Ambition & Re-Invention were both done as part of documentaries. Her best 3 tours by a long shot are: Re-invention (stunning Greatest Hits setlist) and one of the best gigs I've ever been to aazzaabb make sure you see this one, lots of American Life stuff if you like that album plus at least one song from all her other albums The Girlie Show - maybe the best gig I've ever been to. Make sure you see this. Blonde Ambition - together with the Bad tour, sets the blue print for every pop gig since 1990 But yeah, Madonna. My other #1 artist. Not everything she does hits the mark but that's part of the joy (a bit like it is for you hardcore Prince fans I guess). Everyone know her 80s/90's stuff but for me some fantastic stuff post 2000. If unfamiliar then listen to these babies.... Music/Don't Tell Me/American Life/Nothing Fails/Easy Ride/Mother & Father/Jump/Candy Shop/She's Not Me/Voices/Beat Goes On/Devil Wouldn't Recognise You/I Fucked Up/I'm A Sinner/I Don't Give A/Rebel Heart/Ghosttown

As you know I've always been on the fringes of fandom; saw her live during MDNA -I'm in the minority of really liking the album too. Was back in Ireland last week and going through my collection in the attic. Have all the albums except for the film soundtracks and You Can Dance. I really loved The Confessions Tour aswell. Visually I think it's stunning. The Girlie Show was the only concert of hers I knew growing up, but really Blond Ambition is her Bad Tour as you say. Girlie Show is probably her Dangerous Tour? And she's never done a HIStory Tour! 😂 All of her tours offer something new and she's been the most consistent for the longest time IMHO. Listening to the Rebel Heart Super Deluxe edition last week plus the 39 or so leaked demo tracks -effectively Rebel Heart consists of about 3 albums worth of material- blew me away! The good stuff is really good and stands up well against her best work. I've ordered the 2-disc CD of the Rebel Heart tour. I probably will spring for the blu ray for the collection but like the MDNA tour there's better fan shot versions on YouTube to really get the most from those shows. I do hope her next live dvd is a more old fashioned basic presentation. I can't wait for the new album. Having spent half my youth in Portugal I'm excited to hear what the influence of fado traditional Portuguese music has on her sound.

I didn't know you were a Madonna fan aazzaabb ?? Much like your torrid affair with my arch nemesis TonyR , you kept that on the downlow! Yeah mate. I’m reminiscing with myself now and remember buying Ray Of Light in Portugal back in 98. Growing up my sister had the albums Like A Virgin, True Blue and Like A Prayer. I remember her not really being my thing when I was 10 or 11 but in my 20’s is when I really started enjoying her classic singles. MJ was always my main thing but others hovered around on the peripheral. I could never really ignore great pop tunes like Boderline, Papa Don’t Preach, Like A Virgin and Like A Prayer. Sometime later I bought The Immaculate Collection and preferred the mixes on it to the originals. There pretty much just extended versions anyway. It must have been late 2005 or early in 2006 I saw I’m Going To Tell You A Secret on TV, because I’d spent 2004/ most of 2005 in Australia. I found some of the talking parts of it a bit annoying but the live clips were fantastic. After seeing that I dug back into the Immaculate Collection and Confessions On A Dance Floor was released around this time too. From there on I picked up her albums randomly and DVDs. Saw her in 2012 in Dublin on the MDNA tour with the wife. We both had a great night at the gig and loved the show. And of course there’s TonyR aswell. His enthusiasm for Madonna has brought me back to her music and live shows more than a few times. I don’t love everything she’s done and at times I’ve been turned off by her ice queen personality. But then like MJ and Prince when you dig into her background and upbringing you get a better understanding of why people are the way they are. And hey, the tunes are excessively brilliant and instantly listenable. The music always brings me back.

I also think that Madonna is the most 'normal' out of the massive celebrities we've had over the years.
I wish she came across better, she has this defensive wall that I understand (Mother dying young, all the shit she's had thrown at her etc.) but when her defenses are down in some interviews or on stage sometimes (especially on The Girlie Show), she's just lovely. But that wall is usually there and that stops her being as likeable as for example Kylie Minogue or Celine Dion.
But yeah, music wise although she's never recorded anything nearly as glorious as Bad or Dangerous, she's probably my tied #1 artist (or maybe #2).
Every album has at least 2 stunning classics on it, so even the albums I'm not particularly into (Music, Ray Of Light) there are still some beautiful gems on there. Luckily she's been so prolific that even if the album isn't great there's another one along in around 3 years.
Not sure why I prefer her more maligned stuff. But American Life (2003), Erotica (1992) & Hard Candy (2008) are possibly my most favourite & I think her least selling. Having said that Like A Prayer is so stunning I should add that also.
Really looking forward to this year's album (that seems to be called Magic), she tweeted a while ago that she's moving away from the eclectic different producers all on the album and just working with 1 or 2, of which they seem to be Mirwais and Stuart Price from the American Life era which is fully fine with me!

I never wanted her to be likeable like Celine or Kylie. She was always far too cool to be a "safe" artist like that. Madonna would be such a lesser artist without her strong opinions, willingness to do and say things other artists wouldn't dare, the controversy and her self-assured attitude. Of course, it's the quality of the music at the heart of her success, but she was badass back in the 90s and I think this part of her personality made her so much more interesting than most of her female contemporaries. Like Prince, we heard stories over the years, supposed diva antics and being mean to fans, but you expected nothing less from them.

It just becomes an issue when you're defending someone and you can't really argue back. Sort of like when MJ was having his weird days with post it notes on face etc!! Also, it's much nicer seeing her live when she's in a good place and having nice banter with the audience rather than calling then Motherfuckers (admittedly she does that jokingly!).

The only people who diss Madge for being a tough woman are people searching for something negative about her. Tough woman = bitch, eccentric man = freak. Go put on a fucking Dido record if you want your popstars to be void of a personality. And don't diss the post-it notes! I'm still gutted that look never took off. Sort of like when MJ was having his weird days Which time specifically do you consider his "normal" days?? 😊😷

Sort of like when MJ was having his weird days Which time specifically do you consider his "normal" days?? 😊😷 Brilliant! You make a great point! She comes across as bitchy at times but then, she’s Madonna! I guess it’s not that she wants to be cold, it’s just that she doesn’t feel the need to pander to the world and for everyone to desperately love her. I view that side of her a little differently now. Her work ethic on stage is next level. Nothing against Kylie -she’s released some great tracks- but watching her perform next to Madonna is like - insert TonyR funny comparison here. Anyway, I shouldn’t go there with the whole comparison thing because everyone is different. But listening to Madonna’s back catalog lately has been mind blowingly good, and discovering a few new tracks also. It’s a shame what happened with Rebel Heart. Whoever leaked it sort of destroyed it’s effect. I think that’s partly why there was 3 different iterations of it -sort of like Invincible’s 5 different coloured album covers- to rely on fans and collectors to buy them all to sell a few more copies, except in this case most fans heard the album before it was released so there was a fairly legitimate reason for Madonna to do that. Some of the alternative versions of tracks were also quite good. The Avicii version of Rebel Heart would have made such a great summer anthem for 2015. And Queen would have been one of her best album tracks ever! And also there was the whole ageism thing where Radio One and most others refused to play her because she was “no longer relevant”! Just came across this quote as I was reading the Wikipedia for Rebel Heart. It sort of ties in to Matty’s point in a roundabout sort of way. Well not exactly but I liked it. "Genuine statements of personal and careerist reflection [are] scattered among the posturing of 'Bitch I'm Madonna' and 'Unapologetic Bitch'" according to Slant Magazine's Sam C. Mac as well as her "obsessive self-regard".[29] Madonna explained to Jon Pareles of The New York Times that although she has never looked back at her past endeavors, reminiscing about it felt right for Rebel Heart. "And it's bittersweet for me to think about that. It just seemed like a time where I wanted to stop and look back. It's kind of like survivor guilt. How did I make it and they didn't?" Actually it has nothing to do with Matty’s point.🤔

MJ and Whitney I would imagine as the album was released in early 2015, so well over a year before Prince's death but MJ's death must have really made her reflect on her own mortality as a person and artist of that magnitude. The album is refelective in parts. It's incredible though that in such a short space of time that MJ, Whitney, Prince and George Michael are now gone and Madonna really is the last of that certain type of pop icon left.

TonyR I'm really enjoying the Sticky & Sweet tour. Amazing that I bought and loved I'm Going To Tell You A Secret and Confessions live cd/dvds yet never even seen this one! Oh my, I adore the Sticky & Sweet Tour. Probably by 4th favourite. Of course I love the Hard Candy album so that helps! She was in fine form then & I think she really loved that album. She's done the song Candy Shop on every tour since (even though it was never a single!) She's Not Me/Beat Goes On/Spanish Lesson/Give It 2 Me/Devil Wouldn't Recognise You - all amazing Plus it has a stunning version of Vogue!! I also love the interlude 'Get Stupid', both the visual and the music. Really clever rewording of the lyrics from Give It To Me & Beat Goes On but the meaning is changed so it's about World Peace.
