Sorry, should clarify: it's short for Mystery Science Theater 3000. It's a show about a guy that gets captured by a mad scientist and is forced to watch bad movies. He gets through them by making fun of how bad they are, or "riffing" on them. It's actually a pretty funny series. They've done some jokes about Michael before but they were pretty mild from what I remember; but this jab at Michael was extra harsh and just hurt extra badly tonight... likely due to my bad day and the fact that despite R&S's cases getting dismissed... the shitstorm goes on.

but moving forward isn't any good if all it does is continue to destroy this man. that is how it really feels like sometimes. You know how there are websites that warn you if a dog is killed in a movie or tv show? There should be something like this for stupid MJ jokes, haha
I have Michael as my profile picture many times and I'm always super happy if I get positive comments from other people or even meet other fans. But I wonder too many times if it's really worth it. The negative comments stuck with you for a longer time. Of course I'm trying to work on my "not caring what other people think", but last week someone said how disgusted they are with my Michael pics. I don't want to trigger people, on the other hand this person was so rude to me. Maybe I should remind them that a block button exists

Nothing has changed since 1993, really. I don't find it any better or any worse, but maybe I've just grown immune/used to comments over the years. It's easy to say "get used to it" but at the end of the day, we need to think of how many other people are made fun of in shows and movies etc. The main thing is you look after yourself and how you handle the insults/jokes. Everyone is different, and everything is multiplied when having a bad day. Anyways, my inbox is always open to anyone having a shit time.

Something that irks me about haters...
Most of them don't know shit and spout tired tropes they've heard from others over the years but when you challenge them on it, they have no interest in having an intelligent discussion about it.
I am a member of a Judas Priest facebook group and someone posted a video of a MJ/Judas Priest mashup. I hesitantly glanced at the comments and there was the usual shit. One guy pipes up "why would he give the Chandlers millions in hush money if he was innocent?". So I reply with:
"He didn't pay anyone off to keep quiet. The Chandler family themselves said, and I quote, "If Jackson had paid the settlement in June 1993 rather than January 1994 then he could've spent the next decade as the worlds most famous singer rather than the worlds most famous pedophile." The settlement wasn't hush money, the allegations had been all over the media for months by the time the settlement happened. MJ could've prevented that if he wanted to.
The settlement was made because the accusers were pushing to try him in a civil trial prior to a criminal trial (because all they cared about was the money). This is now illegal and the law has been changed in California, but at the time MJ's right to a fair trial was being seriously railroaded as the burden of proof in a civil trial is much lower than in a criminal trial.
Once the Chandlers had their settlement they had no interest in helping prosecutors. Nothing about the settlement stopped Jordan Chandler from cooperating with authorities, they basically got what they wanted (money) and ran.
What parent does that? What parent would let their child be sexually abused and be happy to let their abuser walk free?"
All I got in reply was several laughing smilie reactions, as if that somehow undermines or invalidates my response.
These idiots just spout utter horseshit and aren't even remotely interested in the truth.

These idiots just spout utter horseshit and aren't even remotely interested in the truth. It's disappointing for sure. I've got several similar valid, well thought out arguments lined up as well but they usually fall on deaf ears. I find myself regularly disappointed by MJ fans themselves too though. A lot of fans don't want to have constructive conversations or support anything new with regard to Michael. That doesn't help the situation much either. Most of the time, I just do my best to enjoy his work as much as I can and not think about what others think, fan or not. I do defend him whenever someone says he might be guilty, but I don't do much follow up. I just state my case and move on. You can help it when others choose not to accept logic and the truth.

The media's brainwashing runs deep... this is why it's important for the media to get shit right the first time. Sadly, that seems to have not changed over the last three decades. If only there was a rebuttal documentary that the media would actually endorse.

Wasn't sure where to put this, so I guess this thread works. I had an AWESOME day or remembrance yesterday but it ended very poorly and just totally bummed me out. I post a lot of the /vinyl reddit. I usually post whatever I'm listening to and lightly promote my YouTube channel. So at the start of the night, I posted a pic of my MJ records we were going to listen to. The whole night went by withoit incident. The post got some likes and a comment or two but nothing negative. Then as I was going to bed around 4am, someone left a comment that said "you know he was a pedophile right?". I wasn't going to feed the troll but I couldn't help it, so I replied and of course that's exactly what they wanted. I went back and forth for a while and ended up just blocking them. The whole thing was such a bummer though. It's just a constant reminder that there's SO many people out there who have NO idea what they're taking about and they spread hurtful, untrue stuff constantly

What can ya do? I take comfort in the fact that not a single serious fan was swayed by LN. The only people it may have swayed are non-MJ fans who don't care to research or look into the allegations. Whilst it's frustrating, these people never cared for MJ anyway. I mean, the guy was clearly trolling you from the outset. There's no way in hell somebody who listens to MJ could not have heard about the allegations, so it's not like he was providing some public service announcement. He knew damn well you were a fan and felt compelled to shit on that. Says more about him than it does you.

Does anyone else forget sometimes that there's a faction of people who see MJ very differently to us? I honestly get shocked sometimes when I come across a vitriolic comment online or someone says something disparaging about him in real life. Is it me being out of touch/insulated in the bubble of MJ fandom? It comes like a jolt of lightning sometimes, a reminder that LN did do some damage after all.

I actually think the damage is slowly repairing. I was telling my roommate last week that I've never seen MJ been defended like this for the past ten years. Some of my acquaintances have been discovering his music and becoming fans, People are streaming his music like crazy, there's this group I'm in on FB and they have a music and movies Wednesday thing every Wednesday. People have been posting MJ every week since this year began, defending his vitiligo and even his plastic surgery, showing love for his music, they even go as far as dropping random facts about him. They never used to post him before. There's this new surge of popularity he's getting with the new generation and the kids are media savvy, they don't just believe anything. So, hopefully the air is clearing and we'll have "MJ the legend" back soon.

Yeah but I've read a lot about people not appreciating She Drives Me Wild and Can't Let her Get Away recently, so I'm not holding my breath.

Wait till they find out that Can't Let Her Get Away is the first song MJ swore in, or that it's the first song with mumble rapping. They'll be calling it all kinds of legendary and shit.

It's always annoying to see people online scream from the rooftops they think MJ was a pedo, then when you try and discuss it with them seem to have already made up their mind even though they're legitimately the most clueless people on the planet when it comes to it. Then comes the talking down to people who know more about a subject than them and somehow acting like they came to form their opinion based on anything more than tabloids and "I reckon".

Probably better to just not engage with them, they're a waste of time and energy.
