Debbie, why does the line "Just stop fucking with me" hurt you so much.
It was the mid 1990s, swearing was the big trend (I remember all the gangsta rappers had been swearing since the mid 80s along with metallers), but 1994/95 swearing got out of hand with "Alice who the fuck is alice" and some Red Hot Chili Peppers songs with fuck and motherfuck every 2nd word, and even Alanis Morrisette was singing "Are you thinking of me when you fuck her". Prince's gold experience was full of a motherfucker this and a motherfucker that, and every artist was joining in the F word experience, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Rage against the machine (Fuck u I won't do what you tell me). I got tired of hearing fuck afther the 10th trend artist lept on the fad, so having gentle old MJ saying it was a bridge too far. It just sounded wrong.
Fortunately by 1997, it was back to rappers, nu metallers and douche bag music and normal artists recovered to normal clueless pop. In New Zealand we even had a band called the "New Fuck Explosion" which did bad metal songs and Sex Pistols covers, with random swearing and a section where the band stood on stage and shouted fuck over and over again.

^^It's not so much about the trend, but given Michael had very rarely sworn before (only once in the rap for Can't Let Her Get Away and even then it's very hard to hear) it was a big deal for him to suddenly swear. Obviously given what the song was about, it represented his frustration with it all that he finally caved in and very audibly screamed a swear word. In fact he swears a couple of times on the album. I was just listening to it on Deezer and Scream has the curse word in it! Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease tell me they haven't done this on the album! Please! Does anyone know? I will not be buying the CD, Vinyl or Jumper if it has. If you dive into the multi-tracks for Scream, you can hear Michael say "stop fucking with me" dozens of times over in the background vocals - they just buried it super low in the mix. So technically whenever you listen to the song, you've just heard Michael Jackson say 'fuck' like 30+ times. The only censored version you'll find of Scream is in the music video - it was never censored on the HIStory album and rightfully so. Honestly what's the big deal anyway? We're all adults here, it's just a word and it's use has actual meaning behind it. If anything the censoring just brings more attention to it anyway.

Hasn't Scream always been uncensored? On the album yes, the single & video obviously were & seem to recall Scream Louder from BOTDF was also censored.

I think it's only offensive if I call myself a God.
Actually Matty called me it, presumably so he could dance naked round a golden idol of me whilst chanting MOLA RAM SUDA RAM which translates as 'Me sorry Lord, Bad is of course better than Invincible'.

I think exactly because MJ didn't swear much, when he did it actually had meaning.

Remember there were no leaks or anything pre HIStory, we had no idea which way the album was going to go musically. So the shock of hearing Scream for the first time & thinking 'Wow, he's pissed off'. As soon as it you were in no doubt, then he dropped the F bomb, and it wasn't just for shock value, it meant something.

Got my CD today.
The VR experience is alright. I've no use for it again.
The CD seems to use the same masters as the King of Pop. Loud.
I'll listen to it later.
Edit: I think this is the first time I've owned a HQ version of Somebody's Watching Me. Always had a really low quality one, 128kbps max. Sounds nice. And Fun.
Berry Gordy's children really didn't emulate the Motown sound did they? Well, the two young fellas anyway.
Anyway, I have some new Bowie masters to tend to.
