Quite a few good songs on here actually. Did a playthrough at work today and on the first round, I quite enjoyed My Little Love, Cry Your Heart Out (I dig the processed voice that keeps returning + the reggae-inspired beat), Oh My God, All Night Parking, and Love Is A Game (really loved the cinematic, orchestral aspect to this final song that I immediately replayed it).
I will also admit, after hearing Easy On Me (which I didn't like), I was expecting an album that was basically 25 2.0 because it was so similar to her previous work, but I'm pretty glad a good amount of 30 isn't. Don't get me wrong, Adele is not the type of artist to dramatically shift sound, there's probably a couple still on here that could fit somewhat into 25... but in saying that, there's also a good few songs on here that differ reasonably enough IMO and I generally enjoyed those the most. Perhaps one could maybe argue the mixture makes it feel a bit transitional. There's also quite a few songs on here that are a good bit longer than her usual stuff - 5/12 songs are over 6 minutes.
I don't imagine it's an album that will be popular here (since it seems many people here don't really care for much of her work - which is ofc perfectly fine), but I think anyone who enjoys some of her work will find tracks to enjoy on this album. I definitely do. Solid album.

Apart from a few of the usual old fuddy duddies there’s actually a few of us that are extremely eclectic and into contemporary music/artists on here. TonyR, Cloudbuster, WildStyle, Podcast Russ, SmoothGangsta, Innuendo when the mood takes him, MattyJame Squishy Testicles or whatever he goes as these days, and you and I. Not that they’ll all be into Adele but maybe more open to it. Thanks for this little review. I’m looking forward to hearing this album as I like Adele. I’ve come off an insane 91 hour week, been working since Sunday morning so this will be a lovely (hopefully reflective and breezy) come down album to untangle the wires in my head. Metaphorically. There’s no actual wires in my head but just a lot of residual noise from the week past. And Adele is perfect for regrouping and giving your head a break. Initially I had a bit of a “meh it’s the same bloody song as always!” with Easy On Me, but true to form -my wife laughs at me- I change to “ya know I actually like that song now. Sure it’s a bit samey but that’s what you get with Adele….” My wife rolls her eyes and laughs. I like a bit of Adele. I mean ABBA came back with the same sounding album after 40 years!! People actually enjoy familiarity in to a wide degree, and from what you say 30 differs to a reasonable extent. I don’t want Adele to get her tits out. We’ve got Madonna for that.

I dunno, I'm automatically turned off Adele due to her immense popularity. I know that sounds stupid, but I have this weird thing where if I feel someone is being shoved down my throat ad nauseam it irritates me and makes me want to buck the trend and avoid them like the plague. I've heard enough Adele songs before now to know she ain't really my bag anyway, so I doubt I'm missing out. She's just too damn ordinary for me to get excited about. I like my popstars with a bit of pizzazz, a bit eccentric, otherwordly. The whole girl-next-door-done-wrong act just doesn't speak to me.

It's truly remarkable how she's gone from Lloyd Christmas's sister to what she is today:

It's very unfair of me but I worry about her outselling MJ and this means I don't like her like I should! Also it pisses me off when a female artist gets the respect that Madonna never has, same reason why I don't like Gaga (that and the fact she's only made a couple of good songs!). Like I say, it reflects badly on me, as I know she's an incredible homegrown talent and I should wish her well but I just don't want her to break any MJ/Madonna records. But she is very much of a muchness as well

This woman keeps the record shops floating and in business and I’m grateful to her for that. My friend back in Ireland who’s had a horrendous few years again, both in his personal life and with his business swears that Adele has saved his business in the past and is indebted to her.

Yeah, much like MJ is credited for saving the music industry in 82-84, I believe Adele and Sheeran have done the same in recent years. Thanks to their wide demographic much of their sales are physical. In fact I think Adele's 25 was physical only? Also, much thanks to her for getting Spotify to remove the shuffle button on albums. 100% agree

My mates shop runs a great service by providing a weekly news letter to his customers of all the week aheads releases and he tries to make sure that everyone gets what they want on Record Store Day and even has live music in the shop for such occasions, but Mums and casuals buying Adele and probably Sheeran as well is what keeps the wolves from the door.

But she is very much of a muchness as well I don't actually give much of a shit about her breaking any of MJs records (besides, nobodies gonna top the biggest selling album of all time in 2021, right?). For me, I think it's something to do with preferring to root for the underdog. Sometimes I wpnder how I would've related to MJ if I'd been a fan in the 80s. By the time I got into MJ, even though he was still seriously popular, he was also a bit of a cultural underdog, something which no doubt resonated with my teen angst back during the HIStory era. On second thoughts, he was so brilliant, there's no way I could've watched the Smooth Criminal shortfilm and not joined the party. Adele on the other hand? Yes, she's got a great voice. So has Celine, Mariah, Whitney etc. Plus they had better songs. I can't help but feel like Adele/Sheeran, talented as they are undoubtedly are, have benefitted massively from the mediocrity of current pop music.

One of these days you’ll be a few years older and you’ll fuck off all of this introspective deep thinking and you’ll say “ya know I like that for no particular reason other than I just like it!” Until that moment we’ve got to put up with the above post type musings! 🙄 Right now you are fairly old. Some day soon you’ll be young!

This sort of knobbery was the reason so many people supposedly went off MJ after Bad. The too cool for skool brigade that still bought Dangerous bits didn't tell anybody and hid it behind their copy of Nevermind that they never played.

Honestly, there’s always a smart ass blasé reply.

It's not musical snobbery. I've spent the last few weeks listening to Abba for Christ's sake!! But for me, getting on board with an artist is not just about the music, I have to feel some kind of emotional connection to them as well and Adele just doesn't resonate with me in that way. Plus she's shit compared to proper artists like Tori/Bush. Y'see, now THAT was snobbery.
