A bit like MattyJam with Invincible, I'm past justifying my love (ho ho) for American Life. Although I wasn't keen on first listen I began to love it very quickly. Despite being an uber fan (according to Spotify, I was in the top 0.05% of Madonna listeners last year!), there are not many albums I can listen to all the way through and love it, but with AL I can. The title track, Nothing Fails, Mother and Father are amongst her best. Love Profusion is a beautiful pop record and I love Die Another Day. Hollywood is great fun and Xstatic Process and Intervention are lovely acoustic numbers. So yeah, I love it. American Life is one of her best albums imho. The only reason it got shit on was because she'd been the media-darling for two albums straight and so a backlash was inevitable, not helped of course by the overtly political nature of some of the content. Hogwash. If anything, the album got a free pass on the strength of ROL and Music, which is why the initial reviews weren't too bad, but it didn't take long before the collective school of thought was that Madonna had lost her midas touch with AL. Each to their own, and if you genuinely think it's one of her best records, then fair play to you. If I wanted to hear a Madonna record aping generic-acoustic rock dirge like RHCP and without a single danceable track, then AL would be the first album I'd turn to. Fortunately she more than redeemed herself 2 years later with the outstanding Confessions record, which was her last truly fantastic album, imho.

Nor me. Hung Up is obviously great and I really like Jump but that's it. Get Together is easily her worst single ever and Sorry is her weakest Number 1.

There's nothing rock like or RHCP inspired. Although the remixes on the great Remixed and Revisited EP had some rock versions.

Would you be so kind as to provide a link to the full concert? I’ll watch it tomorrow night at work. It really was a great tour. 😎👍🏼 Here it is...because God Forbid you should try searching. youtu.be/C75vPlUDqOwWatching now! Absolutely outstanding! I’m not sure anyone put on better tours than her. She just gives and gives with these tours. Each one so unique from the rest.
