This is a cool fan design. Imagine if, for their deluxe edition here, the Thriller writing used a shiny, metallic gold texture and was embossed too? I saw a fan in the replies suggest that and thought it would look really nice.
If I was in charge of the artwork, I'd probably swap the front photo to the one of him with the tiger (that was used on the 2001 SE slipcase). I always thought that was a cool outtake!
I think this is better. It also features a nice looking logo that they can use for promo purposes.

There would be almost no complaining. Not about the cover art at least. I'd still be complaining that they're just doing a bare bones 2 disc release.

I'd still be complaining that they're just doing a bare bones 2 disc release. There'd be no complaining from me if it was anything like the two designs we just posted. As for the barebone 2-disc release, I guess I'm waiting for the tracklist to be unveiled before I react. I'm just expecting a demo for each song, then some demos for songs that never made the cut.
I'm keeping my expectations there as I think that's reasonable. In saying that, I do still honestly wish they just straight up copied what The Beatles have been doing for the last few years. A super deluxe edition featuring the original album, a couple discs of outtakes/bonus material, a Blu-ray with high-res audio + remastered music videos and a a hardcover photo booklet featuring photos (some unseen) as well as essays on the work. There's no reason for them not to and I don't think that's unreasonable as that is essentially the template many artists are using for these kinds of boxsets. I mean look at what Elton John just announced for his 1971 album, Madman Across The Water: superdeluxeedition.com/news/elton-john-madman-across-the-water-50th-anniversary-reissue/
...maybe in 2032 for Thriller 50 lol.

Thanks guys for the explanation on SACD. I kinda want the special vinyl but it's so expensive. Like, other artists release remastered box sets for that much. These kind of vinyls are this expensive for every other artist as well. Yes. Expensive and highly sought after. When they sell out some of them pop up on eBay for ridiculous money. This has also gained some traction on the Hoffman forums so many of the VC will get this I would imagine. It’s not so much about them being MJ fans specifically, more so that their audiophiles and this adds to their collections. Many of whom see their collections as investments. They usually press less of these and sell them for more. So it will be interesting to see if all 40,000 of these go and how much they’ll eventually resell for.

Grain of salt, but I've just seen this post on Steve Hoffman. To be honest, this is very much almost surely bullshit. I don't think Starlight was writtten, let alone recorded in 1980. Soon we’ll be able to compile our own Shit Hop compilations! 🤣

I don't know, I honestly think you might be optimistic there. Of course there is plenty of material in the vaults that has never been released or leaked, but I just don't have faith that they will be bothered to include it. A combination of some godawful remixes + demos that have already been released in the past (or already been leaked and, knowing them, sourced straight from the DAT tape that we all already have) seems more likely to me. Just look at what they did for Bad 25. The new songs that were included were very nicely put together by Matt Forger, but there were only a handful. And this is when the Estate still thought they wanted to target fans with their releases (to some extent). Ever since then, they have done less and less to appeal to fans.

I'm a broken record, but it's really sad fan expectations are just that low.
I will say though that while I'm absolutely hoping for something new, if they release a demo that's already been leaked (but not released), I won't hold it against them. I remember there was a whole debacle in the fan community because most songs on Xscape were ones that had already leaked in the fan community, but I never really agreed with that sentiment. A combination of a) MJ's no longer here so what we have is finite and we don't have the luxury to be super picky about whole new songs, and b) leaked or not, the majority of fans would not have heard those tracks anyway and I don't think they should miss out because a small percentage go out of their way to find such material.
Then again, that debacle was about whole new songs entirely, rather than different demos and outtakes. I'm not familiar with how many different versions there are of his songs, but there's probably more variety in that regard so they can probably be more picky.
Talking about specific tracks, given they did include Fly Away, Streetwalker and Todo Mi Amor Eres Tú on Bad 25, we can probably expect some of the 2001 SE bonuses on T40 too. I would rather they left those out since T40 is only two discs and those are still readily available on Thriller 25. If we were getting a 4-disc version or something, I'd totally be down to have a 'completionist' package with past released bonuses.

I would be happy if they even included a few different versions of the album tracks in various stages of completion but I'm not expecting that either.
