[Yeah, probably. I'm a broken record, but it's really sad fan expectations are just that low. Oh, not nearly as much as me. I will say though that while I'm absolutely hoping for something new, if they release a demo that's already been leaked (but not released), I won't hold it against them. I remember there was a whole debacle in the fan community because most songs on Xscape were ones that had already leaked in the fan community, but I never really agreed with that sentiment. A combination of a) MJ's no longer here so what we have is finite and we don't have the luxury to be super picky about whole new songs, and b) leaked or not, the majority of fans would not have heard those tracks anyway and I don't think they should miss out because a small percentage go out of their way to find such material. Then again, that debacle was about whole new songs entirely, rather than different demos and outtakes. I'm not familiar with how many different versions there are of his songs, but there's probably more variety in that regard so they can probably be more picky. Talking about specific tracks, given they did include Fly Away, Streetwalker and Todo Mi Amor Eres Tú on Bad 25, we can probably expect some of the 2001 SE bonuses on T40 too. I would rather they left those out since T40 is only two discs and those are still readily available on Thriller 25. If we were getting a 4-disc version or something, I'd totally be down to have a 'completionist' package with past released bonuses. Me neither, but of course any business worth their salt would take into account what has leaked and make sure to also include some things that are still fresh and interesting for the hardcore fanbase. I agree that it's very likely that they will include tracks released on various compilations and re-releases over the years. Fine in and of itself, but with it only being one bonus disc, that does not leave much room for anything else...

I don't know, I honestly think you might be optimistic there. Of course there is plenty of material in the vaults that has never been released or leaked, but I just don't have faith that they will be bothered to include it. A combination of some godawful remixes + demos that have already been released in the past (or already been leaked and, knowing them, sourced straight from the DAT tape that we all already have) seems more likely to me. Just look at what they did for Bad 25. The new songs that were included were very nicely put together by Matt Forger, but there were only a handful. And this is when the Estate still thought they wanted to target fans with their releases (to some extent). Ever since then, they have done less and less to appeal to fans. I won't be surprised if it's just the already leaked stuff. I would be happy if they even included a few different versions of the album tracks in various stages of completion but I'm not expecting that either.I wouldn't expect something like that, but man that'd be incredible. I had a playlist of various outtakes of Strawberry Fields Forever, compiled from Anthology 2 and Sgt Peppers 50, and it is just utterly fascinating seeing a masterpiece like that come together. I would loooove to see something like that for MJ.
Actually speaking of Lennon, some of the recent expanded boxsets for his albums have had a disc dedicated to 'Evolution' mixes, which are compiled of different takes to take the listeners on a journey, showing how each song was developed up over time. Something like that for MJ would be really cool too.

Something like that for MJ would be really cool too. Oh yeah, there's so much they could do in that regard. And because MJ was such a visual artist as well (and documented so much) there is so much they could do videowise too. How fascinating would it be to have a mini-documentary about a song which traces its evolution from the very first demo until the album release and (if applicable) subsequent short film and live performances? Have the people who worked on the song with Michael tell their stories, while playing relevant archival video and audio material along the way, as we see the song slowly emerge. And of course then include the full demos on the accompanying box set. The possibilities are endless, but they have already missed out on so much, with Rod Temperton and Bruce Swedien having passed and Quincy not getting any younger.

I'm not the person to put my personal business out there as someone who grew up in a poor family, not every fan can afford everything what all fans can.
i grew up in poor family like Michael did. i know his and his family struggles.
growing up we got what we can get and we were happy about it.
i'm of those fans that only get things when i have the money and buy it second hand for a cheaper price.
i'm one of those fans that go to thrift stores and stuff to find second hand mj stuff no wants anymore.
Michael and his family was the same way.
i feel until you live Michael and his family struggles and mines nobody can't say anything.
i find people in community comments like that offensive. not all fans in the community are wealthy nor all have money.
what i mean some cost 30 bucks. you need that 30 bucks to feed your family, take care of your home etc. we live in a time were 30 bucks can't even do that anymore.
money is very tight right now with covid etc. things are going up especially with the cost of living.
a few months ago me and my family was struggling to find somewhere to live. thank god we safe and okay now. we are now living much better now. we was almost homeless because of cost of living right now.
we are very bless.
so for any fan go out and say every fan can afford everything. i hope you never struggle and go though what i have been though my whole life and Michael his family.
we all be upset what the estate are giving us. but that doesn't give anyone to be rude. and see? is what mean about this fandom.
get to know someone before you say anything.
thank you very much.

Isn't it nice to have another shit release to moan about? Covid/Russia/Shit MJ Release! This decade sucks! At least the Covid font was quite nice.

As an aside to all of this, I have tons of box sets and I never listen to them, including the Prince Sign O” The Times Super Deluxe. And I swore I was going to spend a solid year eating it up! I listened to it once, maybe twice and that was it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a magnificent release but what I’ve began to feel lately is that less is probably more. Sure, I would have loved for the MJ releases to be up there with The Beatles and Prince but when I weigh up what I actually listen to versus what I own, I always come back to the original albums and a handful of bonus tracks. I’m not arguing a case for the estates lacklustre efforts but if I get 1 or 2 new tracks with Thriller 40 then I’m cool. I don’t have the time or interest anymore to consume 5,6,7 discs of material.

£90 for music you've heard a million times before, but in better quality? And during a cost of living crisis globally? Nah, this is not what hits the spot and expect a lot of people to pass on it. If Sony was disappointed with the sales of Bad25, I'd like to see their faces after this one during worse economic challenges than in 2012. 🤷♂️ I'd rather something better for OTW or later albums than Thriller yet again. Ah well....more dosh going into the savings and investment accounts! Much more exciting. Unheard material on streaming means rich or poor, everyone's a winner. Oh, I could afford to smack down £90 for a set, but no way I could justify it with respect to Thriller. Not when I've so many copies on vinyl, cd and mini cd! It benefits me more in the long run to put £90 into investments which I'm hooked on these days. As I said, a standalone Making Of Thriller release and that's me done with Thriller.

I kinda want the special vinyl but it's so expensive. Like, other artists release remastered box sets for that much. Cause the estate are money hungry and go up their stuff. 😒😒😒 funny because if Michael was alive he wouldn't let this stuff be too high. he knew all his fans couldn't afford everything and came from an poor background. but like anyways like the estate says they are jealously of all estates. 🙄🙄🙄 Michael didn't have control over the pricing of his albums as that's down to market forces. Even during his lifetime, people without much money would miss out. How did ye think it wasn't until I was 18 that I saw mj live for the first time? It's just life, really. As Run DMC said, "It's like that and that's the way that it is!".

I was just browsing an audiophile forum to see the reactions about the new audiophile vinyl and SACD releases of Thriller and they all seem excited. There was only one person in the whole thread trying to start something about the allegations (how the label "should give the income from this to abuse victims") but they all just ignored him and continued to be excited.

With Prince I'm not a hard core fan, more a casual listener and from that perspective I agree that the amount of "new" material is just overwhelming and while I listened to some of them on Spotify I rarely ever go back to those. There may be gems among them but the amount of songs put out is just so overwhelming that I definitely had the "less might have been more" feeling sometimes. If I was a hard core Prince fan I'd probably feel differently about it, just like I'd like to hear more MJ outtakes because I'm a hard core MJ fan. For casuals the audiophile versions of the original Thriller album are probably more exciting news. This wasn't meant to excuse the Estate, because they should definitely care more about hard core fans than they do.

Less is more doesn't really apply with the MJ estate in my opinion, lol.
