So Rod Temperton was involved with the original lyrics of The Toy? Interesting because Rod usually writes lyrics AND music, but I guess this time it wasn't the case because Best of Joy is only credited to MJ if I remember correctly. He was? I know he was messing around with an alternate chorus for BOJ but it was never recorded. Thought it was an MJ only track. There was a rumour in fan circles that when BOJ was released a verse was cut from it because of copyright issues with Rod. The rumor was actually that he wanted to get $2-3 million dollars for it. Which is a bit OTT, so the Estate didn't want to pay it but they rather cut it out. But I think it's obvious that MJ didn't work with Rod in 2008 when he recorded BOJ, so any lyrics that were supposedly written by Rod could only come from when they recorded The Toy in 1982. But I'm not sure how true this rumor about Rod and cut out verse is. We have to take this with a pinch of salt. I guess we will know when we see the album credits if Rod has anything to do with this song.

It's recently been said that he was only working on an alternate chorus that never got recorded, pretty sure it was in 08 as well, but not 100 percent sure on that. Verse was not cut because of royalties because Rod never wrote the verse.

That's not even a guarantee, I think the Japanese Thriller 25, and the Dutch King Of Pop CD's list Got The Hots as being written by MJ and Quincy so it seems there's a couple of songs with a cloud over it.

Another vision does anyone know?

Another vision does anyone know? We can expect it'll be instrumentally different at least as we haven't even heard the original version of Best Of Joy, lyrically though it is pretty much the same. The Toy starts with "I am your boy, I am your toy". Damien Shields posted on twitter that the third verse is just the first repeated on The Toy. It wasn't made unique until 08 when MJ re wrote it. Not sure how true that is but he seems to have heard unreleased stuff. twitter.com/i/web/status/1571946900466847744

Okay, so The Toy has been confirmed.
Are we not getting any extended versions on this release?

The blurbs written for these songs on their website legit read like they were written by a 12 year old.

Okay, so The Toy has been confirmed. Are we not getting any extended versions on this release? Disc 2 so far have been unreleased demos, which is what the majority seem to want from disc 2. The digital "disc 3" will be the extended versions that have already been released to date and available on previous released, Thriller 2001 SE, The Ultimate Collection, Thriller 25 etc. With 7 songs to go for disc 2, I still think the extended Lady in my Life has a good chance. However, we still have the following in the arsenal: Hot Street/Slapstick Starlight Billie Jean (Studio Demo) Got The Hots (really should be on the digital release as it was on the Japanese Thriller 25 and several King Of Pop collections) Niteline Someone in the Dark - Complete version? The Girl Is Mine (this also should be on the digital release, already released on TGIM 2008)

Yeah, if you think about it, it really doesn't have a connection to the Thriller album other than the time period it was made in. On the other hand, SITD was used for the Thriller SE and that has no real connection to the Thriller album, so I guess it's fine.
