It's been very hard to remain excited for this hasn't it? It seems like everything was a rush decision. Right from the get go. Doesn't sit right with me now. We are being taken for fools. I’ve felt like that since Monday. I’m thinking of cancelling my order but didn’t want to say it because I’m very torn. I haven’t enjoyed this campaign, rather I’ve found it increasingly frustrating. From what I’ve read online, the bonus tracks are just thrown on a disc with zero mixing or mastering, and some are even butchered. My heart sinks when I read stuff like that. I’m becoming disheartened about the whole thing. Maybe I’m too impressionable, I don’t know. You're gonna have to get over it. Otherwise every single release will disappoint. I realise I'm alone in this but, although I agree with all the above....the marketing is non existent, the packaging is crap, the tweets are laughable, it could and should be a million times better... But.... It's 2022 and I'm getting 8 tracks I never heard before and new (hopefully) versions of 2 of his best non album songs. You've got to lower your expectations and enjoy it for what it is. None of us expected a Thriller 40 did we? So it's better than that. Again, I appreciate all the points that other legacy artists get it much better and I agree the marketing is dire, but it's 10 new Michael Jackson songs that you don't even need to buy now we have streaming, so just sit back and enjoy is my advice.

I’m disillusioned with with it all Respect. I’m on the verge of drawing a line in the sand and calling it a day with the estate. They haven’t met any of my expectations. I don’t know, I just feel we’re being let down on so many levels. Okay, but you are glass half empty guy, while I'm the glass half full one. Yup, but it should be an overflowing beer glass, on top of an overflowing fountain in the middle of an overflowing river. I’m still going to get the MoFi vinyl because if I don’t I’ll instantly regret it. 😐

Yup. Completely on me. Sometimes my imagination runs away with itself and starts dreaming up all of these amazing hopes and possibilities about what MJ’s output could look like in 2022. My new outlook has got be “it’s better than nothing”. It’s almost nothing, but it’s better than nothing. I’m not sure it is better than nothing but, it’s better than nothing. Just regarding the fact that people are saying the tracks aren’t even mastered? I mean it’s a basic industry standard. If that’s not even happening it just feels so reprehensible and insulting and completely flys in the face of everything MJ was about. And they’ve created this wall between them and the fanbase that allows them to not have to answer to anyone or explain anything and to rub it in our face by quite obviously trolling. But… it’s better than nothing.

I think sometimes it's made out as if we expect too much when we're legitimately just asking for the basic stuff to be done correctly.

I think how you're feeling is valid and there's a reason for it, it's not your fault. The estate are disappointment time and time again. Even if all you're expecting is the basics.

I'm sorry, I'm not going to soften my words, but that's just absolute fucking dogshit.
That is the kind of graphics I would expect an 11 year old to have fun making in Microsoft Paint, not the official reissue of the biggest selling album of all time by one of the most important music artists in history. The picture they chose is great, but they really couldn't have swapped out the logo for the new 'Thriller 40' logo they made for the CD? This is actually embarrassing.

I'm both. This release so far is abysmal, even in the context of archival reissues, but I'm still looking forward to midnight tonight when I get to hear at least 4 new Michael Jackson recordings I've never heard before. I'm also looking forward to seeing the short films in 4K too. Perhaps the fact my expectations weren't really that high in the first place helped.

That’s it, the basic fundamental things aren't being done right, or, not being done at all! The posting over each weekly track reveals weren’t even mentioning which song they were talking about. I mean that’s just basic common sense 101! The font -that’s STILL on the vinyl! The non-communication causing confusion around the double vinyl and not letting fans know when Beat It 4K was available on YouTube or when Thriller 4K will be available on YouTube. Branca not even wearing gloves when holding the Thriller Jacket. And what we’re hearing now about the bonus tracks, and we could go on all night. These people exercise no humility and just come across as not very nice and disinterested.

Worrying thread... I'm becoming even more solid in my feeling that I'd rather this estate just not release anything at all. As much as I want good new MJ releases to happen, these idiots always seem to fuck it up. I get the frustration, but I guess something is better than nothing. Don't want to go to my grave never having heard the best of what MJ left behind ya know? Even if it does mean tolerating the estates substandard releases. This is why I'm hoping eventually someone else will take over the estate. Someone who actually cares about Michael and doesn't resent his fans. Until then, I honestly do believe nothing is better than what they've dished up over the last 13 years. They've done more damage than good.

Although overpriced I think the MoFi is the saving grace in this. And the 4K films. It’s disappointing that we’ve arrived at a place where the bar is set so low that we’re literally better off to completely lower our expectations or worse still, to not have any at all. I’m sort of over it all again now. It’s good to talk.😂

I need a photo of MJ holding the newspaper with the date of the day he recorded What A Lovely Way To Go because he does things he didn't do since 1978 on that tune and sounds like his Jacksons voice pre-Triumph. That's because according to the booklet, he wrote the song in the late 70's but "revisited" it at the time he was working on Thriller. I haven't heard it yet, but if the vocals weren't updated since the 70's, I have a hard time believing anything else would have been.

I have these very romantic and idealistic notions of what I wanted these things to be which is a bit foolish. All of the romance and idealism died along with MJ anyway. Despite my exhausting negativity tonight/today there are things that I’ll enjoy. Some new tracks, the 4K films, the MoFi, and possibly -reminding myself to not expect much- a half decent documentary. Also we cannot forget about Sonic Fantasy which is coming.

To be fair Tony, you're equally going to have to get over jumping on peoples posts when they make a point about X or Y being a ridiculous decision. I'm glad you are getting 8 new songs and all, but come friday I don't think this will be universally praised. It's already been a shit show with the LPs changing at last minute and the errors in the booklets etc. This thread has mileage yet. Enjoy the new tunes but also to tell people that actively collect MJ stuff that all they have to do is "not buy, sit back and enjoy" is pretty condescending. We've reached a point where MJ fans are rejecting buying new physical products because of the shoddiness of the Estate. That is a huge problem for an Estate that needs to bank on loyal fans after a campaign of monstrous pedophilia accusations. Fuck em. This has been a botch job and they know it.
