It was written by R. Kelly, and I am not a believer that we must separate the work and the artist because I think that art and the spirit are intimately linked... and I don't like this song so it doesn't change anything. :')

I don’t listen to r.Kelly anymore but I still play songs he wrote for others, and actually think Cry is a masterpiece

I don’t listen to r.Kelly anymore but I still play songs he wrote for others, and actually think Cry is a masterpiece Cry is one of my favourites on Invincible. Always makes me feel warm inside. It was written by R. That beat is MJ 101 (I think MJ is credited in the liner notes for the drum programming) and MJ always had the ability to emote other peoples songs with his vocals in a way that made them his own.

Same. I’ve never thought of them as R Kelly songs as such. I think of them as Michael Jackson songs, in much the same way as I don’t really consider Rock With You a Rod Temperton song or It’s The Falling In Love a Carole Bayer Sager song or Human Nature a Steve Porcaro song or PYT a James Ingram song etc. MJ made everything he sang that was written by others, his own. When You Are Not Alone was absolutely massive in the 90’s I never heard anyone say “I really love this R Kelly song!” or “I really hate this R Kelly song!” They’re all MJ songs. His versions were the original versions.

I understand your point of view, but I find it difficult to share it. This song was written by someone who had perverse ideas and according to wikipedia, Kelly wrote this song for her teenage ex who had just lost her baby. I don't know if it's true but knowing the character, I get this idea when I listen to the song. Then I don't really like it so with all that... Personally I prefer to listen to songs written by Michael, Temperton, Jones, Santana, etc...

I think invincible annoys you No, but the faux-worship by people making out it's on a par with earlier works does. Enjoy it by all means, but don't pretend it's on a par with earlier works. Don't @ me. Invincible is infinitely better than the horrible History which is his worst album in my eyes.

Invincible is infinitely better than the horrible History which is his worst album in my eyes. Blasphemy. To say that History is better with its clumsy lyrics and poor, old-fashioned sounds is logically an ultimate apocalypse.

Nope, I described History. 🙃 Invincible is sonically richer and more original to Michael's career than History will ever be.
But then if it's your opinion, I respect it, tastes and colors are within everyone's reach ^^

HIStory is his greatest work imo. Clumsy lyrics? HIStory had the best, most personal and well-written lyrics of his entire career. Songs like Money, Tabloid Junkie, Stranger In Moscow are pure poetry.

Well, there's some throwaway pop on Invincible for sure, which is actually a good thing in my eyes. I don't always wanna listen to deep masterpieces, y'know?
