Okay, it's no secret that I'm a huge GNR fan. They're by far my favourite band and I pretty love much every album they ever made, including the much maligned covers album and Chinese Democracy.
Here's a few of my favourite GNR tunes for you to chew on.

Okay Matty, so I've chewed on them, swallowed them, choked on them and spat them back out Kidding. I quite like Guns N Roses. I'm not a massive fan, by any means but who couldn't love songs like Welcome to the Jungle, November Rain and Don't Cry. They are a legendary rock band for a reason - they are one of the best. Having said all of this, I have mixed feelings on Axl Rose nowadays. He can't help it - because it's probably an age-related thing - but his voice is totally shot. In recent live performances, his voice often sounds thick, groggy, damaged and quite painful at times. I think it's using that heavy rock boom vocal for all those years, it's ripped his voice to shreds. I think his days of being "prime" live are over but he continues to milk that GnR cash-cow because it's still fattening up the bank accounts for him. I don't mean that to sound cruel, I am not ageist and I think the guy is very talented, I just think he struggles to cut it live now and yet he keeps pulling out tour after tour after tour (without new songs to even justify repeated touring??) and so I think GnR is letting down its own legacy. In part I am also a little cheesed off that he seemed so full of anger and spite towards Slash and said he'd never, ever work with him again, only to climb back on stage once the money offer was high enough...that's not rock n roll. Sticking to your "Guns" is Anyway, I'm getting off track here. Love the songs you posted, Mattyjam, I do think Guns and Roses are brilliant, but live they aren't so good anymore, I think.

Lies, Appetite and Use Your Illusions I and II are a perfect run. They lost me after that and can't be arsed with the reunion. Watched a few live clips on YouTube from their tour and Axl's voice is meh. Their golden period was great though.

They're great, I'm actually on mygnrforum discussing them quite a lot. Chinese Democracy is great, although I think it would have been better received if Axl released it as a soloproject seeing as that is basically what it is. It was one of my favourite albums for a while and I definitely think it's a lot better than people give it credit for. Hopefully they will be recording more stuff after they're done touring.

Also, Axl's vocals were great for most of 2016 (Google Axl and Acdc, he actually sang better for them than he has for the whole GNR reunion), it's just recently his vocals have started to become terrible again, I don't know if singing with Acdc damaged his voice or what, but it's much worse now than it was last year. He sounds just like the album for the first verse on this performance on Madagascar. If only he could keep it up. youtu.be/U0I1ziehVoQ

azzaabb - did you ever check out Chinese Democracy? No, and I've heard great things about it from fans. I really need to give it a listen. It's an album I've been meaning to listen to for years -probably almost as long as it took Axl to make it. I need to hear that album. SmoothGangsta that's a good point about Axl's voice. The stint in ACDC would have definitely taken a tole as those songs must be so hard to sing. Back In Black is an AMAZING album.

I don't think the GNR reunion is only about money. If it was Axl and slash would have made up ages ago, they were both being offered millions for years to get back together. I think they have settled their differences.

Yeah I definitely think that may have affected his voice for a while. He's been improving in recent shows though, bringing rasp back in on some songs and stuff. Still not very good but an improvement nonetheless.

IMO AFD was the best album GNR ever released. They had some good albums after it, but nothing came close to AFD.
Chinese Democracy has it's moments, but I think it's somewhat overproduced. You can almost go through the songs and mark down roughly what year they were recorded.
I don't know for 100%, but I believe that every new band member re-recorded "their" bits on the album???

Yeah, countless people worked on it over the years, and parts were often re recorded when people left the band. Most of the songs and vocals were finished in 2000 but record label troubles and Axl's over perfectionism delayed it until 2008. Brian May was even on one of the songs at one point.

I know I'm always trying to force the music I love onto you, but it's only because I have such faith in you that you would share my impeccable taste. Chinese Democracy is like Axl's HIStory. Very personal, angsty, paranoid, complex and beautiful. It's actually my favourite GNR record, despite Axl being the only original member on the record.

Axl's voice is slowly getting better. A lot less "mickey" and more rasp.

From what I'm reading it appears to be Axl's Invincible - I see a pattern here Matty- and AFD was their Thriller. π I will listen to this for sure and I'm actually looking forward to finally hearing it. Impeccable taste?! I'll take that! π
