I'm not sure if from chart positions we can conclude it was a bigger hit than his other songs. It definitely doesn't naturally feel like that. Say Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal etc and everyone knows who sings that and what it is. I'm not sure you would get that with LNFSG. It's just that modern charts work very differently compared to how charts worked in the past. That's why you have all these current artists breaking chart records left and right. I think there are two different kinds of ways to measure a songs success as a hit. You have the initial chart run and sales and then you have the legacy it leaves. There are plenty of number one big sellers that nobody listens to anymore and then there are songs which flopped at the time but became classics further down the line. LNFSG was a massive success over here and hugely popular at the time and it may have even outsold/outperformed some of his classic material, but it won't having the lasting impact of any of the classic singles released during his lifetime. It was cute radio fodder, a nice dose of nostalgic disco, riding on the wave of the brief disco-funk revival around 2014, but it doesn't have the substance to really be a serious contender for the status of "MJ classic."

So Smooth Criminal surpassed 500 million views on YouTube a little over two days ago. At the current rate of viewership, it’s set to surpass 600 million views in August, which is stellar. It amassed over 300 million views since that pathetic excuse of a movie aired two years ago, a big f you to those who produced and promoted it and anyone’s sad attempt to mute the king. Billie Jean on both YouTube and Spotify also gained over 300 million streams in two years (each, not combined).

I think for a long time there has been a fan upload of SC that cannibalized the views of the official one. I remember the one on the fan channel having all the views. I think its numbers on Vevo are going up this quickly since that fan upload has been deleted.

In comparative terms, the King of Pop also has a more popular channel than contemporary artists like Drake with 8.2 billion views on his Youtube channel, Billie Eillish (7.3 billion), Cardi B (5.4 billion) and Justin Timberlake (5.2 billion), to name a few. Jackson's most watched video on the platform is "Billie Jean": with 950 million hits. But the King of Pop has four other videos over 500 million plays: ''They Don't Care About Us'', ''Thriller'', ''Beat It'' and ''Smooth Criminal''. mjbeats.com.br/michael-jackson-ultrapassa-10-bilh%C3%B5es-de-visualiza%C3%A7%C3%B5es-no-youtube-b816fe06fcc5
