Beyoncé has about four good songs Yep. Her stans seem to think she is up there with the biggest legends like MJ, but the reality is she just doesn't have a strong catalogue to be mentioned in the same breath. She is a great and hardworking stage performer, but that's it. I doubt her songs will still be listened to in 20-30 years. They are just not that great or timeless.

Okay, I'll throw a few out there for shits and giggles: ** I was right all along about Justin Timberlake. He's a hack. I don't know what I was thinking for the two weeks in January when I got caught up in the hyperbole of promotion for his new album. It isn't that good. And neither is the rest of his career. Mediocre talent. Welcome back to the Light Side. Oh, no, still on the Dark Side.

** Invincible IS better than Bad. It just is. Both albums have a handful of songs I don't particularly care for and I will admit that Invincible never quite reaches the heights of pop perfection like Smooth Criminal or Man In The Mirror, but the overall quality of songs on Invincible is higher. I would take Speechless, Unbreakable, Heaven Can Wait, You Rock My World, Butterflies, Whatever Happens and The Lost Children over Bad, Speed Demon, Liberian Girl, Another Part Of Me, Just Good Friends and IJCSLY any day of the week. And twice on a Sunday. If you keep on making this disgraceful statement, one day everybody here is going to come for you. This sort of thing should be kept to yourself. It's like saying you prefer Grease 2 to the original. It's one of those things you shouldn't readily admit to. Then to top it all off you didn't even list Threatened.

Many of us would have been locked up or murdered already if the Beygency were real. LOL 😜 Her music gets crappier with every new release.

Even the better ones (like Lady Gaga for example) aren't a patch on MJ/Janet/Madonna/Prince. I agree with all of that except your comments on bad. I have always held that Dangerous is his best album and Bad is his most enjoyable album. Bad is awesome, no filler and all killer. The Way you make me feel - Bitches!

Exactly, she has an okay voice, but she needs some deeper and more exciting songs, all her songs are dumb - Women run this mfer and the rest, same with Rhianna, she has an amazing voice, but most of her music is crap. If we could find a great project for these two, then they could become true divas like Whitney, Janet and Mariah! Yet take Janet Jackson - we are still banging all her stuff 20 or 30 years later. We all remember Velvet Rope and Janet, but who is remembering Crazy in Love or anything by Destiny's child. To me DC wee a bad Jade/Brownstone and SWA knock off. DC did not have a patch on the great 90s girl groups like SWA (Sistas with voices), The Braxtons and my favourite En Vogue!! Shit even Blaque and All Saints were better. And no one has forgotten the Magic of Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston (RIP Sister), Celine Dion and even Britney's more memorable songs - I don't care what no one says Toxic and Crazy are pure gold. Yet the Taytays, Rhiannas, Nickis and Katy Perry's have none of this memorability. So far with this thread, we have been hitting bullseyes. Preach! Everyone Preach and it is not just because many of us are as I suspect grumpy old Quadgenarians.

I mean you say that but the hundreds of millions of young people who listen to Taylor Swift, Rihanna etc’s music today are going to be exactly like you in 20-30 years, looking fondly back on them with great memorability just as you are with Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and so forth. Older people almost certainly said the same thing about them in their heyday - more often than not they always seem to do this with the younger generation’s contemporary artists. It’s nothing new, been happening consistently since at least Elvis was king at the very least.

Here's mine:
Madonna has done remarkably well for herself for someone with no discernable talent for music.
MJ stopped giving a damn about his career after he had kids
Prince is a genius, but half his catalogue is forgettable garbage

Sorry don't agree, I knew back then in the early 90s that Whitney and Mariah would be there for the ages, these were songs that would endure. List to Crazy in Love and then Vision of Love, it is obvious which one is so much more memorable. Russg Your stuff about Prince and Madonna - oh hell naw, I won't even honour that with a response

List to Crazy in Love and then Vision of Love, it is obvious which one is so much more memorable. Played those both back to back just now and Crazy in Love is unequivocally the most memorable of those - that opening hook is also far more iconic and I knew that hook before I was even aware it was from a Beyoncé song. That's not to say Vision of Love is bad, but I didn't find it that stand out. If we're going to talk songs that endure better, Crazy blows Vision out of the water with 271.3 million streams on Spotify as opposed to Vision of Love's 16.2 million. Even if Beyoncé is the bigger artist currently, it's not like Crazy in Love is a new song either - it's 15 years old! A better example for Mariah would be All I Want For Christmas Is You. Still extremely popular 23+ years on (321.6 million streams on Spotify) and personally is one of my favourite modern day Christmas songs too (at least when I'm not forced to hear it 3000 times in the shops ).

Vision of Love isn't Mariah's best or most iconic song by far, while Crazy in Love is one of Beyonce's signature songs, so the comparation is a bit unfair.

Like Beyonce or not, Crazy In Love is a complete classic.
I loved Mariah for her first few albums (Music Box is stellar), but I think she's a much bigger star than her back catalogue in the UK demands.
I reckon most people would name ...Christmas as her most well known hit, and after that, it's covers in the UK. 'Without You' was her biggest #1 hit, then her cover of a certain song called 'I'll Be There' and then that terrible cover with Westlife where they killed 'Against All Odds'.
Back when she could sing though, her Unplugged performance is stellar.

Artists like Mariah or Whitney aren't necessarily known for a fantastic catalog, but rather their voices. I'd say Whitney's catalog is pretty mediocre, it's her performance and vocal abilities that elevated those songs.
Every aspiring female vocalist wants to sing like Whitney. That's why she was special.
