I will never get over how his family cornered him to do the Victory tour. What it would have been the Thriller tour.
I love his vocals, some of the dance moves (some others were improved and amped up in later tours), his anger but the instrumentals in several songs sounded horrible, a step back knowing the older tracks sounded much better, funkier and more soulful in Destiny and Triumph tours.

Even though mj was against victory, it was an amazing show with amazing chemistry with his brothers one last time. I know people who went for the tour and they never forgot it

I know people who went for the tour and they never forgot it The Victory Tour was fantastic, I'll always enjoy it. The band were amazing and even though the brothers DO try to be heard a bit more on this tour all the songs sound great. I'm really looking forward to seeing some HQ clips on Saturday. My biggest gripe was dropping Can You Feel It and not doing State Of Shock (although we get a short snippet from MJ during Shake Your Body in Toronto). I hope a show is released. New York '84 is probably the best I've ever heard MJ sing live.

Shake Your Body, Things I Do For You, Off The Wall, Rock With You, J5 medley , etc sounded so much better musically in the older tours and you know it. No fault with Michael's voice, though.
Don't know if I needed to watch more shows but I don't think the chemistry was all that present with the brothers in Victory. I saw more chemistry and unity in the other previous adult tours. MJ seemed pissed at them at times and like they were holding him back.

I haven't watched too many videos from the tour due to the dubious quality, but hearing Beat It with a keyboard just sounds all shades of wrong! ππ And why does he always sing the first line as "he told em don't you ever come around shit?". π€

MJ's voice was at it's best during the Victory Tour IMO.

Glad Michael or CBS went for the Hugo Boss white suit and the iconic pose that many others copied afterwards. I love the ones with the tiger cub but they aren't record cover quality as it is the chosen one. Isn't the baby tiger on Michael's feet in the last photo? This one. But it looks like the cut version. The white suit was Dick Zimmerman's and Michael admired it, so Dick let him wear it for the shoot. Michael's pose on the cover was done by others before Thriller. Teddy Pendergrass - It's Time For Love album came out in 1981. Lionel Richie did it a couple of times too. Just before Thriller came out, Alfonso Jones and Scott Baio reclined on their covers. None as iconic as the Thriller cover though! The pose was popular before and after Thriller.

How did black music culture suffer as a result? Before Thriller black music was basically pushed out of the mainstream. It's Thriller that bought it back with a bang and opened doors for other black artists like Prince. I don't see how this was negative for black music.
And I don't think MJ ever wanted to be just "black music" or be limited in that way. He was an artist who happened to be black. And who believed music is limitless and shouldn't be categorized by genres and colors and races.

How did Thriller's success make black music suffer from a black kid's perspective?
