My favourite album by anyone. Bad comes as a close second. Brilliant production, lyrics, and hooks for days. And it has balls. And probably because of stupid sentimental reasons I ascribe to it.

I know some fans try to downplay it given how exposed it is in favour of his later albums, but Thriller really is a phenomenal masterpiece. It's sheer, pure pop perfection from start to finish. No other way to put it.
There's not a song I'd swap on here, I love them all and they each have their own place on the album.

HIStoric took the words out of my mouth. A masterpiece. I'm still in awe of songs like Thriller, Billie Jean and Beat It.

Can I be Debbie Downer for a minute?
I think Thriller is a singles album, with some fillers. Now, the singles are some of the greatest pop songs ever written. It doesn't get better than Billie Jean, Beat It, Thriller and Startin Somethin. And both Human Nature and LIML are gorgeous songs. But Baby Be Mine, PYT and TGIM are all filler if you ask me. They're not bad songs per se, but sitting alongside some of the greatest pop songs ever written, they just sound a bit twee and blatantly not as strong as the songs MJ was penning by this time.

Before I talk about Thriller....I have to say I LOVE that gif of Michael swinging onto the stage in his letter jacket!
Anyway, Thriller is what made me aware of who Michael Jackson was, so the album, and era is sentimental for me as well. I remember as a little kid being afraid of the Thriller video, but loving it years later, and truly being wowed by his dance moves through his performances. I will always love the singles from the album, but I do love Baby Be Mine, and Lady in My Life (have memories of hearing Lady in My Life on the radio late night during the Quiet Storm format) a lot, too. Though I do have to say that some of the demos were pretty cool, too. Love listening to Carousel and Got the Hots in particular.

Well, don't forget it's only a nine track album. And for a nine track album to contain four of the "greatest pop songs ever written", I'd say that's quite impressive. I personally would've loved to have seen Behind The Mask make the cut on Thriller, over PYT. But to call a nine track album a "singles album with some filler" when you've admitted to loving 2/3 of the record, seems a bit unfair.

I think these album threads should be sticky'd to keep the music talk alive.

It's a good album and had some killer tracks. The quality of Billie Jean, Beat It and the moonwalk all propelled Michael Jackson into a household name. After the MTV video add and the moonwalk, he would never be the same again.
Plus remember Thriller is described as saving the music industry, pulling recorded music sales out of a 3 year long slump since the commercial death of disco in late 1979.
Personally I love this album, and still play it a lot. No matter how many times they play Beat It and Billie Jean I can never get sick of those songs - they are timeless and have a magic about them!

I think these album threads should be sticky'd to keep the music talk alive. I do like these threads. Trouble is, if I make each album thread a sticky it'll take up half of the first page of the board. I could create a sub forum for each album or is that a bit OTT?

No, I think that would be a great idea!! Hmmmm, not 100% sold on the idea tbh. I don't like it when message boards have too many sub-forums. Anyone else care to pipe up? I'm open minded to any suggestions.

the album every artist and I mean every artist wish they could make.
this album is the blueprint Bible to Pop Music period.
Lionel Richie, prince, R.Kelly,Bobby Brown,Madonna, Babyface,Justin Timberlake,George Michael,Beyonce,Usher,Dr.Dre,Garth Brooks,Celine Dion,etc.. will tell you about that album.
thats the kind of album that changed the whole game.
nothing like it before or since and i saw it up close and personal and MJ Mania ain't been touched since.
9 songs that touched and caught the Pulse of a whole world.
the kind of album where you don't have to do anything else ever again period.
the perfect blend of songs and styles.
