Watched this this morning: Still a banger. Always loved this. Excellent workout material! *goes off to play* Love the original more - my number 1 favourite MJ song. As much as the remix feels like a sacrilege, you can't deny it does its job exquisitely and is one of the best remixes in his catalogue!

Watched this this morning: Still a banger. Had forgotten that the single remix edit had a video but there it is. Pretty naff though, he obviously didn't really care about it.

Did you really expect him to be in the video for a dance remix? I agree most of the BOTD remixes are naff, but HIStory Tony Moran mix, 2 Bad Refugee and Scream Louder still get regular spins from me. I don't think this stuff was really MJ's cup of tea, but it brings back memories for me, of simpler times. Plus, there was some cracking HIStory-era remixes which didn't make it onto BOTD. The Mousse T remix of Ghosts which was on the On The Line maxi-single was amazing, like a chilled out, Santana reimagining of the original. And I don't remember the names of individual remixes, but YANA, TDCAU and SIM had some great ones too.

Was thinking about HIStory recently.
What a great album with career defining highs, but I also think it has the worst middle section of any pre Invincible album.
Scream (featuring Janet) They Don't Care About Us Stranger In Moscow This Time Around (featuring The Notorious B.I.G.) Earth Song D.S. Money Come Together You Are Not Alone Childhood (Theme From Free Willy 2) Tabloid Junkie 2 Bad (featuring Shaquille O'Neal) HIStory Little Susie / Pie Jesu Smile
5 stunning songs to start and same to finish but then in the middle these.
D.S. Money Come Together You Are Not Alone Childhood
Don't get me wrong, I love Come Together and like Childhood and Money but compared to the bookended tracks, they really pale. Especially the fact that CT was already available.
But what a great, great album.

You Are Not Alone is one of the best pop songs ever, IMO. I know I'm in the minority.

^I do really like Money (much more than This Time Around for instance) and think Childhood is an important song too. But I'm with you that it's not a brilliant run and probably the weakest pre-Invincible.
In general I think the CD era hurt the overall quality of his albums. Around 45 minutes imo is just the ideal length for a record. Just imagine how strong HIStory would be if you'd cut it down to its most essential songs. I'm happy we have the other tracks too obviously, but would gladly have accepted them as b-sides. Plus, the LP format forced MJ to not go too wild with the duration of the individual tracks. I think from Dangerous onwards, many songs are unnecessarily long. Could have saved that for an extended mix...

Plus DS is worst song on any of those albums. I remember hearing that and TTA and thinking 'wow, the man actually is capable of making a poor song'

I remember hearing that and TTA and thinking 'wow, the man actually is capable of making a poor song' I disagree. The only song that is unworthy of its place on HIStory is Come Together. Have you never listened to D.S. when you're mad at someone in particular? It's very cathartic, plus Slash kills it on that solo. Money and Childhood are both incredible songs and YANA was a bit of light in the dark which the album needed. And This Time Around is fierce in the same way Unbreakable is. Loved it when MJ embraced Hip-Hop flavourings in his music. All these songs are better than CLHGA or SDMW, let's be honest.

The mixes of Money and 2 Bad that are on the BOTDF album, yeah, I'll keep them.

Watched this this morning: Still a banger. I have been listening to this a lot lately, what a great mix, and in my opinion the only good mix on the BOTDF album… The short film is also Nice, very futuristic. Wish MJ would have done some more of these for Invincible. The 2000 era had a lot of music videos like this.
