You're right, we could do with an Invincible thread. P.S. What bonus track version do you have where he covered Metallica? Good songs, not amazing songs. Songs that sound like other peoples songs sung by Michael Jackson. Poor production (IMO) making it the least enjoyable album to listen to. Way Too long. The Most "Motown" album of his adult career, whereby it feels there is no connection between a lot of the songs, and just sounded like he was recording songs because he was told they would be hits. Tried too hard to follow the trend of what sounded fresh, when MJ always was the one who created the trend. Also Nothing Else Matters made me laugh. Enter Sandman In The Mirror Fade To Black or White

I am so sorry, I do not have an encyclopaedic knowledge of MJ songs in front of me, I do not have lists of songs taped to my computer. The song I am referring to is the one with all the Carlos Santana guitar in it. Excuse me I am not a doctorate holder in Jacksocology Woah! No one here has a doctorate in Jacksonocology, but I think we all know an over reaction when we see one! Relaaaaaax man! Yeah man. People are going to get confused if you refer to a song by three words that don't even appear in the song at all.

I don't think its underrated, its slightly overrated by fans. Everything that could have went wrong WENT wrong! Sonically it's poorly mastered -just listen to Bad, Dangerous and HIStory! Those are how an MJ album SHOULD sound!- You Rock My World short film is a rehash of Smooth Criminal and Dangerous! Its too long, its disjointed -why would you put the opening 3 tracks together? They all sound the same to a casual fan and it weakens them by lining them side by side. Waaaaaayyyy tooooo many ballads and again all clung together.
There's definitely a handful of greatness on it but its the moment he went from trendsetter to follower, and thats understandable. Nobody can have it all forever.
And even so, I still sort of love it for all its flaws.
I love you Vincy.
I mean it. Come home.

Despite the anger, heartbreak and frustration there is in the HIStory album, there is also love and passion in Michael to keep creating art. I didn't feel that same love and passion on Invincible but detachment and uninvolment, maybe that love and dedication went for Prince and Paris but it feels like he did the record to fulfill his contract and wanted the money. Maybe I'm wrong on my assessment it doesn't sound like a Michael Jackson record like his previous ones.

You don't hear MJ's heart and passion in songs like Speechless, The Lost Children, Break of Dawn, You Are My Life and Unbreakable? Cause I sure do.

I've never subscribed to the opinion that Invincible doesn't sound like a Michael Jackson album. I've actually seen criticisms levelled against the album that say it's too MJ-by-numbers, which begs the question, which one is it? Because it can't be too MJ-by-numbers at the same time as not sounding like an MJ album.

You don't hear MJ's heart and passion in songs like Speechless, The Lost Children, Break of Dawn, You Are My Life and Unbreakable? Cause I sure do. Yeah but that's 5 out of 16 tracks. I actually feel it throughout the album. Michael didn't sing it if he didn't mean it, and he worked both of his cheeks off on the album. You have Heartbreaker, which was very impressive for the time (and still is with its lightning-quick riffs mistook for dubstep), Invincible is very nice with its door sounds, Privacy is heated from start to finish with some of his angriest vocals and its chock full of character (Why do you go through so much ... You need to bury me ... Respect's not given it's earned) - its prophetic when you see that some guy snapped a photo of Michael's corpse. 2000 Watts sounds cheesy but that's forgivable - even then the song is mixed very well (no lie) and vocals unquestionably good. I mean, year 2000, right? 3D glasses! I love Cry, it's a great song with a great melody. I think he gave in a little for Butterflies to make it sound like it's supposed to, it doesn't sound much like an MJ song. It wasn't even his idea, it came from some other singer and Michael must've fell in love with it. Threatened is awesome. Don't Walk Away is the song in its best possible form, because it hit the right spot when I first heard it out of heartbreak. The biggest problem of this album is that it sounds disjointed, one track undermines a great track (Heartbreaker sounds kinda out of place). Well, what happened, happened. Yes, the CD was trash. It destroyed the album along with the poor marketing plans. And then the $ony Sucks stuff started. Luckily Music On Vinyl did their fantastic release of Invincible which makes it shine out like it should have back then. I never bought the CD or the 2001 vinyl because both of them suck. Right aside this were the Grundman remasters...

^^Nice to see another fan of the MOV version of Invincible. For me its the only way to listen to the album. I think we talked about it at length on MJJC. It is a bit nicer sounding. I can definitely hear the layers better and it sounds a bit less like a wall of sound. Although the production and mastering of it limits it's potential unfortunately. Whatever MOV did with the transfer it definitely sounds slightly better. Although my copy has very hard "s" sounds on break of dawn and some other tracks. This may very well be solved with an upgrade to my set up (cartridge) but I ain't got no money for that.

Bernie Grundman has said that the mastering was rushed due to last minute changes in the song selection. Is there any way the album could get a proper master? The MOV version gives a good example of how the album could have sounded. I just wish it matached HIStory in terms of innovative sound quality. What's ironic is that Invincible took an age to create yet at the very end of all that time the mastering was a rush job. I'm guessing Sony had, had enough at that point and just wanted the album. They should have held off for a few more weeks and mastered it properly.
