I'm finding it hard not to be concerned about this. The rational part of me thinks there's a whole lot of media hysteria at play here and that this will (hopefully for everyones sake) just fizzle out.
I've read conflicting reports about the death rate percentage, some are saying it is as high as 2% of all infected, others are saying it's 1%. But I do worry for my family, particularly my eldery mum, who has MS and potentially wouldn't bounce back if she caught something like this.

The Tokyo Marathon have declared that only elite runners and elite wheelchair athletes will run on Sunday Week... That is a major decision to make. Over 30000 people now wont run, all who would have time off/travel arrangements booked.
Safety first, I guess.... Wouldn't you be sick....

Well it's arrived in Northern Ireland now, 1 confirmed case. Traveled from Italy, to Dublin, to Belfast. That's a good bit of exposure there.
We only had a briefing at work yesterday about what will be implemented as it inevitably arrives.
If this should be my last post, please carry on my memory by posting Happy in the "last Michael Jackson song I listened to" thread every now and then. And Islands In The Stream in the other one.
Best, Nige.

I think the scariest thing about it is that the symptoms are similar to that of the common cold/flu, so people may think that's all it is and do nothing beyond the regular over-the-counter meds. But with this, who knows if it just cold/flu or something worse?

No case has been confirmed so far in Hungary (though that may have more to do with the lack of widespread testing rather than it not being here),but people are already in panic mode, emptying the shelves of grocery stores and all. It's a bit ridiculous. Surgical masks have been out of stock for weeks now. Though I'm yet to see anyone actually wearing one on the streets. BTW, newsflash: they don't protect you from shit.
I feel the panic surrounding it causes more harm than the virus itself.

And even at that, I'm sure it only reduces the possibility of spreading the virus and not eliminate it completely. No panic here yet. It's most definitely in Ireland but not confirmed yet, but the person in Northern Ireland traveled from Dublin to Belfast via train. The staff from the flight she was on are now all in self isolation. So, still no confirmation of any cases in Ireland as of yet. People are being fairly OK about it so far here. Precautions are being made, so are plans. That aside, I am much more concerned than I was this time last week. We all have people we know that we will worry about.

My concern is the government are gonna lie to us all because they won't want hospitals, emergency services, public sector jobs and care homes etc with no staff. Nor will they want a disastrous economic crisis and I don't believe they have the publics best interests at heart.
Also, I've read reports that its noway near as mild as theyre having us believe.
I'm worried now I know UK government are building morgues in UK as they think hospitals won't cope with death rate.
If I die, I just want you all to know I really do hate Madonna.

That's 2 confirmed cases on the Island now that have travelled from Italy so, you can assume that a couple of unlucky souls who sat near them or used any machines after them could very well be infected. The most shocking thing I've learned is how many schools get to go to Italy on school tours.

Y'all wanna see some media hysteria? Here's what happens when we finally get our first (and so far only? I think?) confirmed case here in New Zealand:
But it doesn't surprise me. That's our biggest newspaper, but they've been progressively turning more tabloidy and clickbait-y over the last few years. It's only in their nature at this point to stir up hysteria so they can make a few measy bucks 😒
Sadly it seems to have got to some of the public. I saw on social media and the news that there were long queues at many supermarkets up and down the country. Not every country though - from what I read, there were still supermarkets that were fine and acting like it was a normal Saturday for them, but at the same time many were running out of stock of the essentials.
I'm not saying don't report on it, that you don't need to stress that we need to make sure everyone's doing proper hygiene standards, all I'm saying is for gods sake be sensible about it and don't start shit!!!
