As time goes on, I feel that they are more interested in how they are perceived as an Estate/business entity than how the artistic career of Michael Jackson is preserved in history. Sonic Fantasy offers them nothing. They're definitely only interested in stuff they do or could do. It's not very much to do with MJ in my opinion, he's just the way to get them there. On top of that, they seem to treat those who worked with MJ as a hindrance. I don't mean the Teddy Rileys or the Rodney Jerkins, but people like Bruce Swedien, John Barnes, Q, Matt Forger etc. They either just let someone die before getting as much information from them as they possibly could for future use/to have a record of it, or they use them sparingly eg. Forger in Thriller 40. The Estate let their own personal opinions or feelings get in the way of preserving history, and instead are focused on this Jurassic Park-esque idea of how MJ will be remembered. For John Barnes and Bruce Swedien to pass away and to not have them properly acknowledged for what they have done is pretty sickening. Thriller 40 did more damage than good to my opinion of The Estate, mainly John Branca.

I re-listened to the MJCast interview with John Barnes today which completely backs this up. It made me so sad hearing him talk about the craft and the work that went into MJs recording and writing process, and for him to share his thoughts about how disappointed he was the the Estate clearly doesn't see value in the people that helped work on and create these songs. A CBS executive hot more time on Thriller 40 than any collaborator. Tenperton, Phillinganes, Quincy, Bruce. Anyone. It's so sad and fuckong infuriating that people like Bruce, John and Rod are gone and the only thing those dickhead morons in the Estate care about is how to make their work sound relevant for the Tik Tok age. Thank god for Marcus and the MJCast guys were able to get some invaluable insight from these people. Especially one like John who basically was an architect for MJ's output from '84 onwards. Nothing can be blamed for the way the Estate has treated such important figures in the MJ canon except for the Estate themselves. Their incompetence has meant so many stories and pieces of information will be lost forever.
