This is such a great cover, dare I say, perhaps even surpassing the original (although major credit has to go to Stevie for writing such a brilliant track in the first place). But every now and then you get a pairing that just works, and this is one of them. Who produced this? Was it Darkchild? I would put this alongside Scream and Nick Cave/Kylie in being one of the best duets ever.

^^^ It is a great cover. Been listening to this song a lot lately. One of his best: I love Patience. Very underrated album. Amazing, Freeeek, My Mother Had A Brother, Precious Box, Please Send Me Someone To Love, John & Elvis Are Dead, Round Here.... all great tracks. TonyR you really need to give it another chance. You owe it to George.

I do not know if Darkchild produced it.

This was produced by Babyface of all the people and arranged by George... Explains why it sounds so timeless. Babyface productions always sound timeless. I can't rave about this duet enough. George and Mary are a perfect vocal match, neither one outshines the other, but their voices complement eachother beautifully to bring a new layer of soulfulness to the song. You know you're talented when you improve a Stevie Wonder song.

‘As’ is a great song! I discovered it during lockdown last year and fell in love immediately. Has a cool music video too. Though I have to disagree that it surpasses Stevie’s original. I discovered that it was actually a cover shortly after and fell in love with Stevie’s even more. Just the way that song builds, all those harmonies… ugh. Masterpiece.

I tend to love other people singing Stevie's songs a lot more than Stevie's originals. I know it's borderline sacrilegious to not fawn at the altar of Stevie Wonder, and it's not like I'm saying the dude ain't talented, but I could never fully get into him for some reason. I blame Ronnie James Dio. You either worship at the altar of Ronnie James Dio or Stevie Wonder, but you can't do both. And I'm a Dio man all the way.

Thats fine, you don’t have to love Stevie heh. The main thing is you just show respect for his success/influence, and it sounds like you do.

Think I've posted about this before, but this is such a cool remix from GM. It's not as such a remix but a reworking of Freedom incorporating other classics from 1989 - Back To Life and Buffalo Stance.
Reminds me a bit of the extended remix of Bad in that it showcases lots of the great instrumentation that gets lost in the released track.

This mix definitely brings out the funk HARD. Didnt Alicia Keys remake this song? She performed this song on stage a couple of times but she can't touch the original. The video is classic too - place all of the hottest supermodels of that time in one video... Genius.

On the back of aazzaabb and jaywonder 's discussion in the Last Christmas thread...Apparently there was supposed to be an Older25 release this year but it's been delayed. Rubbish. LWP25 was delayed also and was 27 years after LWP in the end. Plus the glorious Unplugged set that was done to promote Older was weirdly released with LWP. In terms if Estates, there's been very little for George. LWP25 was already planned when he was alive. The only 'new' tracks have been a Nile Rodgers remix of Fantasy (which was an old B side) and a very average song for the Last Christmas soundtrack that was instantly forgettable. Think that's been it.

Some say it’s an entire album rotting in a vault, others say it’s mostly an instrumental unfinished work tape that’s largely unreleasable.
