He did also go on to say "to catch up with Michael Jackson". I bought the LWP vinyl on Friday. I think I'll ask Santa for the box set. Is there a blu-ray version of the box set or is it DVD only? DVD only. Is LWP vinyl out already? Thought that was to come. Whats it like?

HMV had a great display right at the front of the store with all the different editions. I was so fired up to listen to LWP again after the docu, and all those gorgeous vocals I can't help but call it wonderful. But if you're looking for a real vinyl review I think we better get innuendo on the case...

I'm getting a new turntable soon so digging out my vinyl and getting new stuff so may have to add this. Thanks.

He did also go on to say "to catch up with Michael Jackson". I bought the LWP vinyl yesterday. I think I'll ask Santa to bring me the box set. Is there a blu-ray version of the box set or is it just DVD? I've got nothing against him referring to MJ as Jackson, I'm only putting emphasises on it because I actually found it interesting that he refers to him like that and I sort of perked up at the mention. I suppose it's not something I hear a lot; it's usually Jacko. I like Jackson. It's a respected way to mention him; Lennon, McCartney, Dylan, Hendrix. Yup, i'll take Jackson all day long. How's the vinyl? Would love to hear some feedback on it.

It's definitely respectful, it shows they're significant enough in pop culture and influence that you can just refer to them by their last name and you already know who they are. I wish it was a bigger thing for Michael Jackson. As for the George Michael boxset, I had a wee listen yesterday morning, mainly to Too Funky and the unplugged version of Freedom '90. So one thing I noticed is that ultimately, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of 'new' content, like unreleased demos, songs, whatever. It seems like outside of that Unplugged set (which I imagine you fans would've seen before) everything music here has been released one way or another? Is there a reason for this? Was George Michael not overly keen on releasing demos/unreleased songs, or does he simply not have a great deal of unreleased material in the first place?

George wasn't that prolific, so there isn't that much to mine as far as I'm aware. Hence why they've put Unplugged on this release which in reality was done to promote Older, so not really suitable for LWP, even though he beautifully performed two songs from it. It's the same stuff we normally get on disc two. No great surprises. From the reviews I've read, it seems they've been a bit sneaky on I Can't Make You Love Me from Unplugged, for some reason they've used the studio version and added some applause! Maybe the audio was damaged, I don't know. Anyway, aazzaabb it seems I was wrong about the DVD, it's not the new documentary, it's the old South Bank Show from 1990. Which makes me wonder why this was delayed so long.

HIStoric , I echo everything TonyR says , plus the fact that the boxset was printed up and conceived well over a year ago. Due to that the 2017 Neil Rodgers version of Fantasy isn't a part of the boxset -only as a download code- but it is part of the 2 disc version. George Michael was working on new material when he passed away so I would imagine this project was a sort of stop-gap/relaunch with a new album planned for release later. So yeah, he wasn't prolific and was a perfectionist and he's never struck me as an artist who believes in releasing demos or outtakes. So the boxset doesn't contain the documentary, doesn't include Fantasy 2017 and I Can't Make You Love Me isn't the Unplugged version. Gah, slightly disappointed.

A lot of reviews also say the booklet is reprinted in bad quality. Why can't record companies get this stuff perfect? They don't involve fans who are emotionally invested, that's why.

Is it possible, just once that a record company produces a boxset that is perfection?! Gawd almighty! The booklet is an integral part of the boxset! The booklet needs to be a piece of art! I'll have to wait on this awhile until a few fan reviews are in. And yes! They need to start involving fans! What is so hard about reaching out to fans for a bit of input/feedback?! Typical! George Michael passes away, and emedietly the quality drops! I'll remain optimistic for now but yeah, meeeehhh!!

Incredible.

The Freedom documentary was on tonight here in New Zealand, mind blowing stuff, won't tell you what happened, as some of you may not have seen it yet. My feelings on George Michael, a god really, amazing singer, songwriter and all over nice bloke. A great role model for us gay people (Except the drug abuse perhaps)
Always liked his music and felt the documentary was heartfelt and real, no gossipy or sensationalized rubbish. Prince and MJ are mentioned a few times (Especially when discussing the runaway success of Faith in the states. It deals a lot with his sexuality and his heartbreak.
I am seriously thinking of the LWP set, but at the moment really only have Wham! the Final, Ladies and Gentlemen and the 25 set. I probably need to add Faith and Older at least to my George Michael collection.

And the documentary was produced by George himself, he was working on it before his death. Hence why no tabloid crap.

Would have been nice if MJ had made a documentary about himself, overseen by him. Well, Private Home Movies was kind of like that and it was great - but it was more in answer to the bad PR from the Bashir crap and not really focused on his career and music.

Watched the documentary last night. ***slight spoilers ahead***
I found the format of the docu a bit surprising. If I hadn't known that GM worked on this extensively, I'd have probably guessed it was a posthumous documentary given the large number of talking heads and the lack of new footage of George. With that said, most talking heads were relevant (no Rosie Perez) and of course George did narrate the documentary.
I thought it was an engaging hour and a half, that nicely explored and revealed what motivated George throughout the years (and what a tragic story it was, in many ways...). I think his music deserves a more in-depth exploration as well, but it seems clear that that was not the point of this documentary. If you're interested in GM as a person, I'd definitely recommend it.
