The convo above is why you can't please all by the way.
Some want Carousel, others will be disappointed if included!
Personally happy to have it for completeness.

I don't get how anyone can be enthusiastic about a 7" version? It's like "yay, LESS music." I think they have their time and place. For a song like Human Nature that isn't long, at 4 minutes, then yeah for sure. I don't really get the point. But when you have longer songs, depending on the context sometimes you just want a version that's more straight to the point. Case-in-point, I had a party recently and made a huge playlist of it. Naturally, there were a good handful of MJ tracks in there, amongst them were DYSTGE, Thriller and YRMW. For those three songs, I elected to use the radio edits off Number Ones. My reason being I felt they either went on for a little bit too long (DYSTGE at 6 minutes), or the album versions take their sweet time at the beginning to get to the actual song (Thriller/YRMW). Those last two songs, I use the radio edits on my dance playlist too, as when I'm dancing about, I'm not really interested in the atmospheric build-up of Thriller, or the tired spoken intro for YRMW. I just wanna groove!
So yeah, they have their moments but it does depend on the situation you're in, as well as how the song may be edited too.
Nope nope nope. I am allergic to 7" versions. If a song has a great groove, why would you want less of it? Long intros don't bother me, I'm all about respecting the artists original vision. If I want to hear a reimagining, I will listen to a remix, but all a 7" does is butcher an artists work.

We are also getting the 7" version of Human Nature which is only available on a 3" CD that costs like €80 on discogs, so that's another major bonus. I don't get how anyone can be enthusiastic about a 7" version? It's like "yay, LESS music." Because it's a different mix with a different bridge! Lots of Bowie's single mixes are different, it ain't just about the length of a song. The 7" of Breaking Glass is actually longer than the album version. There's a 7" mix of The Girl Is Mine without the dialogue, since everyone here voted the song out into oblivion I'm sure people would prefer that one! Oh the 7" mix of the Jacksons Wait is better too! Different mix.

When I'm doing a party playlist, I don't really want a song that overstays it's welcome (I might like a longer version when I'm listening personally, but would all of my guests?) and it also means I get to play more songs at the party. Long, less-musical intros can also interrupt the flow and I like a continuous flow of music at my parties so, to me, that's much more important than the artistic vision. Ultimately those single edits were designed specifically to allow the song to be played with at a shorter length and Michael would've had to sign off on them too.

The thing that makes it so much better for me is that 'morse code section' right before the chorus, which is mixed much louder in the single version so has more impact. I mean maybe I'm biased simply because that's the version I heard first, but when I played the Ziggy Stardust album and heard it waaaay quieter, it just felt.... so very wrong 😂 It had less impact than it should've!

That's weird - I wonder why not release the full version initially? No idea. But here's the full version. It's my favourite Thriller outtake so I'd like it to get an official release in full finally. I’m pretty sure the full version is on the KOP The French Fans Selection. I’ll have to double check tomorrow.🤔

So shorter than that 4 minute Youtube length above, but longer than the 1:48 version on Thriller 25

Yup, I agree. In fact I’ve made a version of Prince’s 1999 album entirely out of the 7” versions and it’s a better overall experience than the original album. My 7” version is about 40 minutes, versus the actual albums 70 minutes which is fine if you’ve got the time but I don’t always have the time these days. I can almost listen to the entire 7” version on the way to or from work and I feel satisfied.

Oh yeah, for those with extended ot especially 'comedy' intros like YRMW and BoW, they are vital.I don't have standard versions of those 2 songs on my playlist, just the edits. Same with WYBT, the best version is the Free Willy Soundtrack one. Even though I do like the full album version, there's a time and place. I'd rather sodomise myself with a hot poker than play edits of WII or Earth Song though, and yeah for a standard song like HN, why enjoy a shorter version? Maybe it's an Irish thing. Ha! Exact same!

Yeah, the single mix of Starman is the correct version. The original sounds like they forgot to turn it up or something, just sounds dull af at that part and takes a lot of the impact out.
