I wish the tide would turn here in the US. Over here it's about a lot more than click bait articles. The common opinion over here is to assume he's guilty and openly talk about it as if it's agreed upon. I get what you're saying about some MJ fans looking to he unhappy, but I assure you that ain't me lol. I'd love nothing more then for all the allegation talk to go away forever, but it's just not the reality here in the US. Meanwhile also in the USA right now: Also in the USA: he was the #43 most watched artist on YouTube last week and by far the most viewed legacy artist. Not saying this isn't a case of separating the art and the artist, but IMO not everything is doom and gloom in the USA either. I'm not saying everything is doom & gloom in the US but I am saying that common opinion is that he's guilty of what he was accused of. It very well could be a situation with my personal circumstances too. I have the Michael tattoo on my leg and I live in a warm climate, where I wear shorts year round. So I regularly have people ask me if I think he's innocent, since I have the tattoo. Most of thoae conversations end with people saying things look bad for Michael but they just separate the art from the artist.

I think it's perfectly understandable to not react positively to this news. Don't really understand where the vitriol is coming from if I'm honest.

I've had it before on this board, European fans telling US fans what it's like to be an MJ fan in the States. They don't listen. In general, it's been a far more dismal experience being an MJ fan over here since the 90s. Europe embraced him again with the HIStory era, but after 93, MJs career was dead Stateside. I lived in London for 3 years in the early 00s and the difference between European and US attitudes towards MJ is night and day. He is still celebrated over there in a way he hasn't been in America for years. It briefly changed for a bit when he died, but on the whole, most people you speak to think he was guilty.

MJs career wasn't dead in the US after 93 at all. In 1995, he broke Billboard records twice with highest ever chart entries for Scream and then YANA. Both his studio albums post-93 topped the US charts. YRMW was top ten and Butterflies top 15 without even a commercial release. He had the most watched television event of the year in 2001 with his MSG concerts. Both his posthumous albums went top ten, one of them went top 5. His catalogue continues to sell by the truckload and he has a successful Broadway musical and Cirque De Soleil show in his name. Not bad for someone whose career died in 1993.

I think it's perfectly understandable to not react positively to this news. Don't really understand where the vitriol is coming from if I'm honest. Well, at the end of the day, you and they will have to accept this 50% rights sale. At any rate, it's not a whole lot different to the 1995 merger with Sony which MJ merely said was "just good business". Michael collected $100 million for that rights merger. This deal between MJ Estate, Sony and an unnamed partner is essentially a merger. Today, rights of this nature has been regarded as being more stable than gold - the pandemic proved that. In short, there's a LOT of money to be made in ventures like this. Michael Jackson saw that possibility in 1995. In his advancing years if he were still with us, I'm sure he'd have done a Dylan since its far easier to divide up a lump sum between his children than it is to do so with the sheer amount of rights he has. Most fans are clueless when it comes to this kind of thing. 🤷♂️

Jesus you can be very uptight at the best of times. Think of it as a merger of rights property with the intention to grow the value over time through various strands of business ventures. In other words, more MJ products will become available to buy over the next decade or so. Music is one. But non-music related products will feature, e.g. Whitney Houston Estate partnered with Primary Wave and one product was a fragrance amongst other things including a biopic and posthumous albums to come. I think we can also expect a better run social media platforms for Michael Jackson too since the WHE/PW merger talked about doing this too. Win-win, I think.

A lot of us in the fan community can be quite cynical, especially where the estate is concerned. But maybe, just maybe, this can be a good thing? My first thought when I learned about this yesterday was to be cynical but then I thought, hold on a minute, Dylan done this last year and he’s nobody’s fool. As PG13 has said it ties up all the loose ends for the family and it ensures more MJ product is out there. I mean we’ve been complaining for donkeys years that there’s little to nothing, and now we’re complaining because, why exactly?
If anyone feels this is a bad thing can they at least explain why?

Personally, I can't see a downside to this. IMO, the worst thing that will happen is we'll hear many of his songs used in advertising. Literally every artist does that these days, so I don't even view that as a negative. If nothing else, I think we'll see his music being pushed into the forefront / front of mind again as it should be.

MJ was the worlds most commercial artist and his success just kills people doesn’t it?! People can pretend all they like that their favourite artist is above their music being used commercially but deep down many of those artists are dreaming of having a fraction of the success MJ had/has. MJ himself never made any bones about what his goals were. And boy is he resented for it. I hope we see and hear MJ everywhere we go. I hope the biopic is massive and MJ is pushed back into the forefront of pop culture.

Like you said, I'm all for his music being everywhere.

I was in a few of the Canary Islands and Madeira in December and MJ was absolutely massive in all of them. I heard They Don’t Care About Us on the radio, The Girl Is Mine and a few other songs I was really surprised and delighted to hear. I heard him in shopping malls and cafes. I don’t think those places were even aware of LN. It was truly awesome.
