I can only HOPE we hear many of his songs in advertising! MJ was the worlds most commercial artist and his success just kills people doesn’t it?! People can pretend all they like that their favourite artist is above their music being used commercially but deep down many of those artists are dreaming of having a fraction of the success MJ had/has. MJ himself never made any bones about what his goals were. And boy is he resented for it. I hope we see and hear MJ everywhere we go. I hope the biopic is massive and MJ is pushed back into the forefront of pop culture. Agreed. For the record, I don't have any issue with his songs being in commercials either. Like you said, I'm all for his music being everywhere. I basically want his undeniable success rubbed in the faces of all his detractors and critics. Fuck em! MJ’s face and music should be everywhere. 😂👍🏻

I think it's perfectly understandable to not react positively to this news. Don't really understand where the vitriol is coming from if I'm honest. Well, at the end of the day, you and they will have to accept this 50% rights sale. At any rate, it's not a whole lot different to the 1995 merger with Sony which MJ merely said was "just good business". Michael collected $100 million for that rights merger. This deal between MJ Estate, Sony and an unnamed partner is essentially a merger. Today, rights of this nature has been regarded as being more stable than gold - the pandemic proved that. In short, there's a LOT of money to be made in ventures like this. Michael Jackson saw that possibility in 1995. In his advancing years if he were still with us, I'm sure he'd have done a Dylan since its far easier to divide up a lump sum between his children than it is to do so with the sheer amount of rights he has. Most fans are clueless when it comes to this kind of thing. 🤷♂️ I'm sure my negative feelings will die down. I'd love for all the positive stuff that you guys are speculating about to happen, but it's not like the estate is disappearing with this deal. Would love for them to step back and let some competent people run things.

Surely you'd be pissed if the Estate were to disappear with this deal as it'd mean 100% of rights were sold?! 🤷♂️ Personally, I think an educated assessment of what's likely to happen based on other posthumous estates is better than feeling and expressing negativity. One is constructive and the other isn't.

Not looking for the estate to disappear, just for them to be competent. Hopefully things improve after this then.

Alot get touchy when it comes to catalogues etc as we all know the history but the este is about making money for the kids and increasing the wealth of the estate and actually doing things. So maybe this will lead to more things. I can understand interms of money why they would do this. How many years would it take for the estate to earn 800 mill of the cat? A long time and thats only 50% of its worth

I have been trying to find it, but one of the stipulations for the sale of Bowie's catalog was that while his music can be commissioned for adverts, ads for alcohol cigarettes and gambling are not permitted (or something close). I imagine if songs are to be commissioned going forward, the Estate will follow these lines.
I know people are worried about how MJ's music would be licensed, but didn't MJ license Beatles music to be used in Nike ads?
I think Yoko was OK but the other 3 sued Nike eventually.

Michael Jackson’s Mom Katherine Shut Down In Court Battle With Pop Star's Estate Over Secret Deal Michael Jackson’s 92-year-old mother Katherine was shut down in her attempt to block a proposed deal from her late son’s estate, RadarOnline.com has learned. According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, this week, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge ruled that the estate, run by executors John Branca and John McClain, can move forward with the transaction. The order stated, “The proposed transaction is approved and the executors are authorized and instructed to take all actions necessary to implement the proposed transaction, including but not limited to signing all contracts and performing all obligations required of the estate.” Katherine had testified in court explaining the reasoning behind her fighting the deal. As we first reported, last year, the estate asked the court to approve a deal they had secured. Branca and McClain explained they “have an opportunity which they believe is to the substantial advantage of the Estate and in the best interest of the beneficiaries.” Branca and McClain have run Michael’s estate since his death on June 25, 2009. The beneficiaries of Michael’s estate are his three children Prince, Paris, and Blanket. In his will, Michael added a provision that also provided support to his mother for the remainder of her life. Katherine opposed the deal presented but kept her argument under seal. In response, the executors argued they knew what they were doing. McClain and Branca said they took Michael’s estate from the “verge of collapse” to being incredibly profitable. “The Estate was teetering on the verge of collapse, with more than $400 million in debt that encumbered Michael’s most significant assets and little or no liquidity or means to service that debt. Through creative thinking, hard work and business savvy—and, of course, Michael’s extraordinary creative legacy—the Executors transformed the MJJ Business into a profitable enterprise,” the executors said in court documents. Branca and McClain even accused Katherine of having objected to the 2009 documentary This Is It, which ended up becoming the highest-grossing concert documentary in history and brought in millions to the estate. Prior to the hearing, the executors pointed out that Michael’s kids had not objected to the proposed deal. According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, Katherine has filed an appeal of the decision — an indication the fight is far from over. radaronline.com/p/michael-jackson-mom-katherine-shut-down-in-court-battle-with-estate-secret-deal-judge-approves/

I'm with other fans and on Team Katherine. Keep fighting Katherine. Do you know what Katherine is fighting for? Because in truth we haven't seen the content of her objection. Or what she's objecting at all, for that matter.

I'm with other fans and on Team Katherine. Keep fighting Katherine. You really need to read the articles you post because it tells us Katherine's argument is completely unknown us. But, crucially, it tells us Katherine lost. Once again. So, there's nothing she can do now to stop the deal, AFAIK...🤷♂️

Michael Jackson’s Mom, 92, Paid $1 Million Allowance By Pop Star's Estate, Daughter Paris Scores $750k For Home Construction Michael Jackson’s mother Katherine received nearly $1 million from her son’s estate in a 12-month span while his daughter Paris spent $750k to fix up her home during the same year, RadarOnline.com has learned. The late pop star’s estate, run by executors John Branca and John McClain, filed an updated accounting report in court. The report, obtained by RadarOnline.com, covers the period of time from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2019. Branca and McClain have been in charge of Michael’s estate since his death on June 25, 2009. The beneficiaries of the estate are Michael’s three children, Prince, Paris, and Blanket. In his will, Michael also added a provision that made sure his mother Katherine was taken care of for the rest of her life. Branca and McClain take credit for saving Michael’s estate from the verge of collapse. They said when they started work on Michael’s affairs, the late singer was “more than $400 million in debt that encumbered Michael’s most significant assets and little or no liquidity or means to service that debt. Through creative thinking, hard work and business savvy—and, of course, Michael’s extraordinary creative legacy—the Executors transformed the MJJ Business into a profitable enterprise.” The filing said, “the Executors have been able to create exceptional and unique opportunities that did not exist at the time of Michael Jackson’s death to generate substantial revenues and enhance the image and legacy of Michael Jackson for the benefit of the beneficiaries of Michael’s Trust. As of December 31, 2022, the Estate generated gross earnings exceeding Two Billion Dollars.” In the new filing, the estate revealed it was flush with cash. It pulled in over $70 million in 2019 and had over $700 million in assets. The late pop star’s estate listed property as his $4 million home in Los Angeles, another $315k condo, several Rolls Royce automobiles, a 2001 Bentley, interest in various businesses, stocks & bonds and personal property worth $12 million. The report listed a ton of money the estate paid out for Michael’s family during the year. A large portion of the bills appear related to parties thrown by the family. Expenses listed included DJ services, balloon designs, photobooths, cakes, and catering. Other family bills the estate paid included $80k on a private jet, $71k to a company called Altitude Luxury Experiences, and tens of thousands spent on tuition for the kids. The family even dropped $6k at the famous Pink’s Hotdogs in LA. The report said Katherine Jackson received $969,432 in allowance payments for the year. In addition, the executors approved Michael’s daughter spending $750k on construction for her home. The executors said it still had issues to resolve before the case could be closed — including a nasty battle with the IRS. As RadarOnline.com first reported, Katherine and the estate are locked in a bitter battle over a proposed deal by the executors. Branca and McClain claimed the deal would be incredibly beneficial to the Michael’s kids but Katherine had issues. The 92-year-old testified in court but was unable to sway a judge. The court ruled the deal can move forward. However, Katherine has filed an appeal of the decision. radaronline.com/p/michael-jacksons-mom-katherine-paid-1-million-allowance-pop-star-estate-daughter-paris-750000-home/
