Firstly, he made a few jokes about it like EVERY SINGLE comedian did.Β Oh, so it's okay when it's MJ, he's fair game then? Where you get that from?

Nobodies glad his life is ruined because he made a few MJ jokes, although they were in poor taste and aimed at an easy target who had suffered enough. I think fans are more rolling their eyes at yet another loudmouth public figure who may well have been "throwing rocks to hide your hands" in the words of MJ. if his life is ruined, it'd be entirely his own fault if he was guilty, but I agree, he has the right to due process and the assumption of innocence until proven otherwise.

Eddie Murphy and Chris Tucker have made jokes mocking MJ but none of them have dehumanized him or thought he was a p like all the others, there's a difference.
My point about Brand is that he gleefully joined the lynch mob on MJ because that has been the trend but now he asks for presumption of innocence and due process only when it happened to him. Don't you see the hypocrisy?

I was on the fence about these allegations at first, but then yesterday the media posted an interview with Dannii Minogue from back in 2006 where she called him "a vile predator", which would be a very strange thing for a fellow celebrity to say about someone who was completely innocent. It certainly lends credibility to these women's stories.

People have been saying he's a known sex pest who coerced women into doing sexual stuff, individuals like that usually have a pattern. It wouldn't surprise me if the allegations turn out to be true but I don't take away his right of presumption of innocence and fair trail unlike Brand did with Michael.

TonyR I'm okay, thanks. Obviously gutted to hear everything that is going on with Russell Brand. I knew there were rumors going on for some time and I guess it was a ticking time bomb, especially with the MeToo movement still lingering. No one can say with certainty what went down - only Russell and the women involved. I understand that. But much like with Michael Jackson, I will never believe somebody is guilty of a serious crime simply because articles and TV documentaries are released. Not one person went to the police. No one at the time accused him of abuse of any kind. The women who HAVE come forward only came forward because journalists approached the women and asked them to take part - probably with financial incentive. We all know the dirty tricks of the press, we've seen it with MJ. If there was a criminal investigation and all paths pointed towards the allegations being true, then of course Russell deserves what is coming to him. If he's innocent, this whole drama is disgusting and I feel for the man. As MJ fans I thought we'd all at least see how horrific this is, with our own understanding of how the press can orchestrate such attacks. We know what they are like. The fact that there are Michael fans who are gloating about this on social media seems a bit sick to me - you really think because Russell made a joke (admittedly in very poor taste) about MJ that he deserves to have his life, reputation and career dragged through hell? If nothing else, you should back Brand (IF you believe he is innocent) not because you respect him, but because this situation is symptomatic of the dangers of mainstream press attacks and we should all rally against the press and show them they cannot keep controlling the narrative. Anyway, as mentioned previously, no one but Russell and those women know what went down. I've met Russell Brand several times, each time he was absolutely lovely. I also witnessed women trying to flirt and throw themselves at him - and him respectfully distancing himself from them. I noticed that the police have made a request for these women to come forward so they can investigate - so far not one have, though more have come forward to the press. Telling. It'll be interesting to see how things play out, but it's a sad and horrible situation - if he's guilty it's sickening and I guess he'll pay the price... and if innocent, absolutely awful that this is being done.

Some think I don't like Russell Brand because of his jokes about MJ but it's not the only reason. I don't have any respect for conspiracy theorists with tinfoil hats on who promote fear mongering and misinformation.
But like I said before, even though I dislike him, I won't take away his presumption of innocence.

Will need to see how this goes. Not looking good for him atm all things considered, honestly. Horrifying if true. Agreed, things do not look good for him at all. Having said that, that Dispatches broadcast did leave me feeling uncomfortable (and not just because of the horrible allegations). It felt like they did everything they could to stretch this to 80 minutes, when half an hour at most would have sufficed to present the outcome of their investigation. To constantly show old comedy bits, now framed in a sinister manner with dark music under it, felt cheap (and reminded me of the tactics used in LN). Similarly, using actresses to tell these stories came across as trying to milk this as much as possible. It's one thing to show the outcome of a year-long investigation, and another to sensationalize it in this manner. I'm not comfortable with the latter and imo it actually undermines the journalistic work that was put into this. Let's see how this plays out.

Yes, I agree, I stopped watching the doc because I hated the way it was edited. I had read the article before hand and it was just the same stories so I didn't feel I needed to watch it. It definitely had a weird vibe.
