Writing my review... "I'm afraid TonyR 's going to be very upset when he gets home." Are you going to grace us with this review? Ask and you shall receive: Jam - 3/10 I still remember the disappointment of first hearing this having become a super fan during the Bad era. I was never more excited for the release of an album than I was when I brought Dangerous aged 19. But hearing Jam was just soul-crushing for me. It is just a tuneless mess of a song which has aged badly and has a God-awful rap. I've given it a 3 simply because it's not 2000 Watts. Why You Wanna Trip On Me - 5/10 Better than the opener, but still not great and not even close to anything from OTW-Bad. In The Closet - 7/10A good song, great chorus and very sensual. I would rate it higher if it didn't overstay it's welcome by a good 2mins. She Drives Me Wild - 5/10Not as bad as Jam, but really nothing special. Quite why both MJ and Prince thought it was a clever/novel idea to use car horn sounds on their albums in 1991 is perplexing to me. Remember The Time - 10/10Now this is more like it. I remember breathing a huge sigh of relief when I first heard this. MJ still had it and five tracks in had delivered something truly worthy of his 80s albums. I love everything about this song, the lyrics, the chorus, the ad-libs are all outstanding. Can't Let Her Get Away - 2/10Tuneless trash. I gave it a 2 because it's not 2000 Watts. Heal The World - 10/10A beautiful song that never ceases to give me the feels no matter how many times I've heard it. Timeless songwriting. Black or White - 8/10A cracking and underrated guitar riff and a melody that shows MJ still had his pop sensibilities firmly in tune. Who Is It - 10/10This and RTT are my favourites from Dangerous. I always saw Who Is It as a grown up version of Billie Jean. After a wobbly side one, I breathed a massive sigh of relief back in December 91 upon discovering side 2 of the album went from strength to strength. Will You Be There - 9/10Not as perfect as Man In The Mirror, but still pretty great. Give Into Me - 8/10I don't agree this is anywhere near as good as Beat It or Dirty Diana, but it's certainly worthy of a spot on the album. A fine song. Keep The Faith - 7.5/10 A 10/10 vocal, a 5/10 song, split the difference. Gone Too Soon - 7/10Great vocal delivery and lush production. Me likey. Dangerous - 9/10This could've been a 10, but I deducted a point for the fact that it goes on waaaaay too long. I get it, it's the end of the album and all, but when you just want to listen to it in isolation, I usually find myself going for the skip button before it ends. But the song itself is epic and would definitely be my choice for the most underrated Dangerous cut.

But the song itself is epic and would definitely be my choice for the most underrated Dangerous cut. Well, it certainly lived up to the precursor “I'm afraid TonyR 's going to be very upset when he gets home." He was so upset he peed on his Invincible album. To be fair you’ve never liked Jam and that’s okay. I love it but my one and only gripe is the fact it probably suffers from the lack of bass, which is one of the intentional choices MJ made to set it apart, although he did end up adding synth bass to it during the 93 performances as he probably realised it needed more impact and needed to be that bit punchier. I adore it though. From the smashing glass that scared the life out of me as the volume was left turned up on our HiFi system to the stabbing trumpets and hiphop beat. It’s one of the outstanding performances of the Dangerous Tour when he was feeling it such as the Wembley performance. Apart from only 2 extremely low scores you rate the tracks you enjoy quite highly and the album overall has done quite well. I’ll have to go back to Tony’s Invincible review and see which of the two is more scathing.

The first live performance of Black Or White is the best performance he ever did IMO. It’s a good mix of live vocals and playback. Billie Jean from the first Dangerous concert is also stellar.
Michael Jackson Black Or White: Munich 1992
Michael Jackson Billie Jean: Munich 1992
Jam from Cardiff 1992 looks immense.

Here's my rating.
Jam - Good opener. Clever lyrics that match the theme of HTW and BOW ("nation to nation, all the world must come together"). The rap verse is a bit weak but that's usually the case with MJ songs. 7.5/10 Why You Wanna Trip On Me - The fact that MJ didn't write this brings it down a bit imo. It's an OK song. 7/10 In The Closet - Very catchy and sexy song. Great chorus. The music video elevates it. 8/10 She Drives Me Wild - Derivative. One of the worst songs in Michael's adult discography. It baffles me that this made it on the album. 2/10 Remember The Time - What a gem. Fantastic song, fantastic video. Never gets old. 10/10 Can't Let Her Get Away - Surprisingly I listen to this song a lot. I keep coming back to it. Have to give it high marks for that reason even though he's made far better songs. 8/10 Heal The World - Not a fan, it's too saccharine for me. I cringe a little when I hear it. 5/10 Black Or White - Just a great pop song. So many iconic lines too. "I ain't scared of no sheets". "I have to tell them I ain't second to none". 9/10 Who Is It - Another stand out on the album. Great production. The kind of song only MJ can make. 10/10 Give In To Me - This one is mixed for me. I like the song but I don't really like the way MJ's voice sounds in the verses. I've heard some great covers though. It's a good song. 8/10 Will You Be There - Beautiful, personal and captivating. Really shows Michael's range as an artist. And I love the gospel choir. 10/10 Keep The Faith - Such a powerful song with a great message. Michael's voice sounds incredible here. 9/10 Gone Too Soon - I don't listen to this song a lot but it's very moving. 8/10 Dangerous - Looks really cool with the choreo but the song itself is a bit boring. 6/10

5. Remember The Time - 10/10. Probably MJ's most lasting hit from this album when it comes to the general public. I love it too, especially the ad-lib part. The video is one of MJ's best. Wouldn't that be Black or White?

Admittedly this album is low on my MJ album rankings… not because I don’t love it, I do! I just think that it has a lot more “filler” songs than most of his other tighter albums. Anyway, Here’s my song rankings:
JAM - this song has grown on me. It’s abrasive and funky w sophisticated and ambigous lyrics. However, I rarely want to listen to the whole duration of it (8/10)
WHY YOU WANNA TRIP ON ME - This one also took a while to grow on me but I love angry MJ songs and he’s guttural on this track. Good beat. It is a bit too long though. (8/10)
IN THE CLOSET - V different from anything else in his catalog. it’s industrial and edgier. the spoken words throughout add a sensual touch, not to mention the moaning... It’s hard to separate this song from its video. (8/10)
SHE DRIVES ME WILD- honestly, never listen to this one, I think the honking intro always turned me off. I do like the vocals in the verses though, but the chorus and the beat don’t move me. Sounds v dated. Fine song for anyone else, but for MJ? a dud (4/10)
REMEMBER THE TIME - classic MJ song w perfect melody that is super catchy. Great vocal delivery that builds to a passionate climax. It’s a bit overplayed though (9/10)
CAN’T LET HER GET AWAY - feel the same way about this song as I do about ‘she drives me wild’. it’s fun but underwhelming and a bit dated. (5/10)
HEAL THE WORLD- undoubtedly a pretty and melodic song but it’s just too kitschy and idealistic for my liking atm. When I was a kid I enjoyed it. Also the little girl/playground intro can go (6/10)
BLACK OR WHITE- this is the MJ song that I hear the most on the radio so I am a bit sick of it tbh. Joyful, catchy song nonetheless, w a phenomenal bridge and a lovably corny rap. (8/10)
WHO IS IT - Masterpiece! ugh the angst is oozing out of this song. it’s so moody and passionate w great production and storytelling. (10/10)
GIVE IN TO ME- Love this song! grungy and rock MJ is the best MJ, w a great guitar addition by Slash. The lyrics have always intrigued me bc they are v domineering which is so unlike him. 10/10
WILL YOU BE THERE - major change of pace for this album. Gospel MJ can’t go wrong. Prophetic lyrics.Beautiful. Wish the intro wasn't so long, it should've been last on the tracklist. (9/10)
KEEP THE FAITH - fantastic vocals and message but I don’t love the production and instrumentals of this song, it sounds dated and inorganic. (7/10)
GONE TOO SOON - never willingly put this on, but it's such a raw and emotional song. Beautiful heartfelt vocals. makes me miss Michael. (8/10)
DANGEROUS - Took me a while to really get into this song on its own w/o the live performance. But i’ve come to appreciate it much more on its own. What is an MJ album w/o song about a conniving women? Not one I want! Great dance track and production w lyrics that really paint a mood of paranoia and confusion. (9/10)

JAM (9.5/10)- The glass breaking at the start is the sound of the 80s finishing. His delivery is nothing short of excellent. The mysterious and dark lyrics he evokes so well in his distressed singing, there’s parts where you feel he’s almost about to explode, until he does in the chorus…JAM!
Why You Wanna Trip on Me (10/10) - This and Jam are a staple in my exercise playlists, so funky and full of energy.
In the Closet (5/10) - Some parts clash and it runs way too long at 6 minutes and 30 seconds! I do enjoy Michael’s sensual delivery though and the music video is fantastic.
She Drives Me Wild (10/10) - My personal favourite from the album. Sorry in the closet fans, but this is Michael’s HOTTEST song.
Remember The Time (8/10) - Such a fun song and the music video is just lovely.
Can’t Let Her Get Away (7/10) - The two verses are so good, but I find the song is let down by an anticlimactic hook.
Heal The World (6/10) - Too saccharine for me but the melody is great. It’s good for what it is.
Black or White (8/10) - Great song with a great message, the guitar in this is fab.
Who is It (10/10) - A masterpiece, so many intricate layers. Learning that Michael is the person singing the intro just blew my mind.
Give in to Me (7/10) - Nice.
Will You Be There (10/10) - Michael’s best “gospel” song. The Cleveland orchestra is simply amazing. Beautiful start to finish.
Keep The Faith (9.5/10) - Gave the above competition in the gospel genre. This song is a tour de force and such an underrated gem. I love the break down at the end with the background singers.
Gone too Soon (9/10) - Sad and yet so beautiful.
Dangerous (7/10) - A great closer.
