Box set arrived. Let's get Prince'd. How is it? Any highlights? Really like a lot of Vault 1 so far. Will listen to vault 2 tomorrow. The songs are more enjoyable slightly less produced. The demo of D&P isn't on it? The 2nd disc of b sides and mixes all sounds like one big DJ set with interpolation and cues referring to itself.

I love Open Book, that's a lovely ballad. I'll check it out when I get bored.

Diamonds & Pearls Super Deluxewww.youtube.com/live/X4DlZdSGK8U?si=vTVWqx9ayCN_kH_YClearly Prince’s Friend is way off here when he mentions Streetwalker at 35 minutes. He does say he’s possibly getting his stories mixed up but this is how rumours start. There’s no way Prince sent back his version of Bad to MJ and called it Streetwalker. Just no way. He says “there’s a lot of -history- with that song” I’m not saying he means anything by it but it’s subliminally planting seeds that it’s Prince’s version of Bad. There’s no way it is. Would Prince’s version of Bad be even allowed to be released? I highly doubt it. He does say “It’s conjecture and rumour” so he’s not intentionally saying it. But come on, it’s just not Prince’s version of Bad. Wouldn’t be allowed. There’s also a track on this release called Blood On The -Sheets- Interesting title. Okay, now I listened to Prince's Streetwalker. Not quite MJ level of Streetwalker. And I can't see a Bad connection there either. The two songs have nothing in common.

Finally got round to listening to some of the D&P outtakes. I knew some of them already, like Open Book (beautiful song) and Schoolyard. Pain was later given to Chaka Khan - her version is incredible if you care to check it out, it's on YouTube.

Quite like Lauriann - sounds like a pre-cursor to Chaos & Disorder era.

You listened to this yet @innuendo141?
Been listening a lot lately, made me appreciate the album a bit more than I used to. D&P will never be a favourite for me, but it's got some solid songwriting and tbh, there's no such thing as a completely bad Prince album.
I still have sleepless nights about that time you said Prince writes terrible ballads. Did you say that just to hurt me?

Finally got the SOTT Super Deluxe vinyl set for Christmas from the wife. It's a beautiful thing to behold. MJs estate could never pull off something of this quality and depth. Such a shame.

Yeah, it's not really a great track, but creatively D&P wasn't really a high-point, so it figures the outtakes would be so-so. Just ordered the 6-vinyl Emancipation boxset to add to my collection. Felt like a bit of an indulgence, but Emancipation has always been one of my favourite Prince records and I really want to own all my favourite albums on vinyl.

I have vowed to get one vinyl this year and one vinyl only! That vinyl…….. Blood On The Dance Floor. Then I’ve got all of MJ’s solo albums on vinyl and I’m done with it. But in general, I was in HMV during Christmas and it was like £59:99 for a double vinyl Taylor Swift album and around £50 for Kanye’s 808’s & Heartbreaks. I was just having a general browse around. I’m not paying upwards of £50 for some plastic no matter how good it does or doesn’t sound. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to collect vinyl and I’ll never forget hearing Off The Wall for the first time as a kid was on vinyl, but I’m not willing to just throw money at it. At those prices I’d have maybe 10 new albums over the next 5 years lol. I could get into building a collection through secondhand stores and online I guess but in general I’m put off at the exclusivity of it all through the absolute ripoff prices. But that Emancipation is absolutely stunning. The likes of which we’ll never see as MJ fans. Congrats on it and I’m sure you’re going to love it. We have to reward ourselves from time to time.

I may have slightly rained on your parade man. It’s an awesome boxset. Absolutely beautiful piece to own. I came across a picture of it in my photos just now. Congrats and enjoy pal.

Oh, I totally get what you mean. The cost of these things are insane. Before he died, copies of Emancipation on CD were selling in bargain bins for £3.99. Now they're charging £120 for it on vinyl - it's insanity. I'm very selective what I choose to buy. I didn't bother with the D&P SDE or the SOTT one (although I was tempted with that one). But Emancipation is like HIStory for me, an album I've played more times than I've had hot dinners, one that I grew up on and that has a lot of memories attached. It's nice to own the ones that have personal significance to you, but I ain't forking over nearly 2 days wages for any old shit his estate want to cobble together.

In mint condition of course.
