I'm keen to see it, but I definitely don't trust it. I expect it to polish up a number of things and make them seem better than what really happened.
Hopefully it makes for great entertainment, Rami makes an excellent Freddie.
If you want a full run down of Queen and Freddie read one of the books or documentries. Enjoy the film for what it is and don't moan about what you wanted it to be. You can not please everyone all of the time. I think everyone expects things here and there to be twisted a bit, but if the film tries to present events as factual to the common moviegoer, it's understandable people will complain if it differs too much and that's a pretty fair comment to make I reckon. Seeing many critics complain about this is what lead to my comment, which I don't see as moaning at all.
I think the consequence of this though means that I'll go in to the film and take everything I don't yet know as a dramatized piece of entertainment, rather than a reasonable representation of what really happened. Even if I question the accuracy of the events portrayed though, if it's still a well produced film in other areas then I can definitely still enjoy it - and I hope it is good! Queen are one of my favourite bands so I'm keen.

Saw it today and was a bit disappointed. I'm not the biggest Queen fan, but I do enjoy watching music biopics of all kinds of artists. This one felt very run of the mill and whitewashed, very glossy and official with little real substance. Rami Malek did a great job as Freddie, but the whole thing felt rather sanitised for mass consumption. They got Brian May and John Deacon pretty close but I couldn't help but feel that Ben Hardy only landed the role of Roger Taylor because of Bryan Singers well-known bias towards casting young, good looking twinks in major roles. Hardy isn't a very good actor and is definitely the weak link in the cast.
The music performances is where the film really excels especially when they to get Live Aid, this is a film that benefits hugely from Dolby Atmos. There's something inherently b-movie-esque about most biopics, even ones like this which look like they have a decent budget. They just all look like they belong on some satellite channel nobody watches at 2am in the morning. Yeah, I canโt see me ever going to a cinema to see a biopic.

In my experience biopics are rarely very good, so I wonder if this one lives up to the hype. They have been advertising the hell out of in advance, it got huge promotion. But I definitely won't go to the cinema for it. Maybe I will watch when and if it comes on TV or Netflix.
I did learn a lot about Freddie as a person from the documentary The Great Pretender. But to be honest, I am not that big of an expert on him as a person, so I am not sure how truthful it was. To me it seemed respectful, even if it dwelled a lot on Freddie's private life. Well, its focus was Freddie as a solo artist, but since he had only two solo albums, it mainly focuses on his person, but I felt it was respectful and not sensationalist. And I even learnt some new MJ-related info from it, ie. that Freddie was allowed to release his first solo album due to Thriller's success as Epic was swimming in money thanks to it. That allowed them to be more generous with other artist's projects at the time.

I might get to see this before it comes out on DVD (which I didn't think I would)! I don't want to go to the cinema alone, but then today my mom asked me if I wanted to go see it with her, so I hope we can do it soon. I really really want to see it

Not just the allegations. He has a history of wildly unprofessional behaviour on set, plus a tendency to cast young twinks in his movies, despite them being mediocre actors. I don't know the ins and outs of the allegations surrounding him, but true or not, he is still very much a loose canon in terms of Hollywood directors.

There's lots of fiction, and does Freddie a disservice in many ways. I get that its a film, and have no issues with embellishments of the truth for dramatic effect, but I feel there was blatant distortion from Brian/Roger here. Not throughout, but one particular part made me very angry to the point that I felt guilty enjoying any other parts, but I got over it. Let's just say, when I came out of the film, I went to listen to Mr. Bad Guy rather than A Night At The Opera...

Only really know the big hits, so I was wondering if this movie would pique my interest enough to delve further into their catalogue.

Look, this is coming from a guy who's first love was the music of Michael Jackson, followed by Queen. Queen got me through very hard times and always have been very important to me so this was always going to be a hard sell. I enjoyed lots of it but the casual fan should LOVE IT

I was put off when I found out it had Peter Beale from Eastenders playing Roger Taylor, but you've talked me round. If I hate it, I will be invoicing you the cost of my cinema ticket. Deal?

Absolutely, and I will forward to Mr Taylor and Mr May. To be fair Beale's son is actually decent in it.
