The most perfect album on the planet for me, and the album that opened my ears as well as eyes. Is there a more visual album on the planet? Every single song with it's own short film, except for Just Good Friends (I always considered the Bucharest performance for IJCSLY as the official video for this). Each song/short film is so cinematic, which over the years has gotten me thinking that each song/short film is a cinematic adventure, dreamed up by MJ. The whole album is a cinematic dream. The addition of Leave Me Alone serves as the perfect prologue to his career. This is the moment the tables would turn and the media would pounce on him. I know many don't like Just Good Friends, but I really see this as a worthy intermission on the album. Take a breather- enjoy 2 of the best exchanging hooks and adlibs before regular service resumes. The cover - one word, iconic. I have more versions of this album than any other album. I have almost every version of Bad25, the original pressing LP, original pressing CD, Special Editions etc... But funny enough, my favourite to listen to is still the version I got in 1995, 1994 pressing. It's just how it should sound to me. Really want to get my hands on the Target exclusive Bad 25 as it has all the videos (except only the short version of Bad). Funny enough, I'm about to buy a 2nd pressing Japan CD this morning because I THINK it has the 2nd edit of Smooth Criminal (the later version except WITH the breathing at the start, it;s on the Black or White CD). Obsessed with this album. Nothing will ever change that. I've given Bad some shit over the years, mainly because I enjoy being a contrarian, but there's absolutely no doubt that it is one of the most incredible pop albums ever written. It just is. There are a few songs I don't care for, but I can appreciate their role in the overall album (JGF and TWYMMF). It is pure pop and I think it lacks the depth of an album like Dangerous, but it has hooks for days and features some of the most incredible pop songwriting since the dawn of pop music. That's not even hyperbole, when was the last time you heard a song as catchy and exciting as Smooth Criminal? When was the last time you felt a vocal delivery in your gut to the level of a song like Man In The Mirror? When was the last time you heard harmonies as beautiful as the end of Liberian Girl? When was the last time you heard a rock track as cinematic as Dirty Diana? These songs are legendary and iconic for a reason.

Yes, I love Just Good Friends as well and Speed Demon is one of his most underrated songs. I always LOVED the playfulness of it.

One of the best pop albums ever. He really ruled the world at this point in his career. He was clearly taking more risks, and this album feels like the work of an artist, not just a pop star. Add to that four dazzling videos, most of which rank as some of the greatest videos ever made. He was firing on all cylinders. Songs like "Man In The Mirror," "Dirty Diana," and "Another Part of Me" ... these are some of the most powerful songs in his entire catalog.
Since I mentioned in another thread that he had fewer happy, open-hearted love songs as his career progressed, I'll just throw in a note of appreciation for "The Way You Make Me Feel”. It's totally winning. "You knock me off of my feet now baby, aaooowww!" ... how can you not love that line? And I think he’s so sexy in the video. He’s not overly made up, and he looks like he’s having FUN.

Even though it's not my favourite MJ album, there is a very valid argument that Bad is his most perfect album.
Does that make sense?

It’s of it’s time, but thats part of it’s greatness. You hear a track from Bad in a club or at a party and your thrown into an instant swirl of nostalgia and get-up-and-dance. All of a sudden your back in the 80’s reliving a great moment! 😎

Kids can get as excited about Smooth Criminal or other songs from that album as anyone who lived through that era. That's exactly the great thing about MJ's music - that it easily resonates with new generations as well. Just watch the "Kids react to Michael Jackson" video on YouTube!

I guess I’m talking about myself when I say ‘nostalgia’ and everyone in the room when I say ‘get-up-and-dance’. 😎👍
