I still have a discman from the 90’s and it still works perfectly. I use it on special occasions. I might listen to Dangerous on it tomorrow. And Off The Wall! In fact I’m definitely listening to Off The Wall! Fun fact, a critic compared Dangerous to Off the Wall. Do you get the same vibes too or not really? I don’t really hear any similarities between the two albums, although he’s proving a point on both; in Off The Wall he’s establishing his independence and introducing himself and the world to Thee Michael Jackson and is laying out his future and on Dangerous he‘s proving he doesn’t need certain people working with him in order to create great pop music and Dangerous proves -to himself and to us- this is why he is Thee Michael Jackson. OTW was recorded with a live band and live instruments. It’s MJ’s first taste of adult freedom and you can hear the shackles break on that first Ooooooooh in the intro to Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough. The track opens with MJ making what sounds like smalltalk which can be seen -or heard- as MJ negotiating his way out of the past. We hear MJ working up to the revelation; You Know, I was, I was wondering, if you could keep on, because The Force, it’s got a lot of power and it…. It make me feel like ah….it makes me feel like a…. Ooooooooohhh!!! ……. Suddenly the black and white backdrop in which family, father, Motown etc had shrouded his blossoming and had a stake in his future are obliterated as MJ’s present and future burst into technicolour and his new path is laid out in no uncertain terms for everyone to understand. Heck, You can actually hear and feel the shackles break! Rock With You reinforces his mission statement. He wants a career in which he can have the absolute complete relationship between artist and art. He’s basically saying “this is what I want more than anything on earth and I want to dance with it forever in my own way” -but aazzaabb…. he didn’t write it!- No, but he gawd damn meant it! Everything else is the perfect vehicle for Don’t Stop’Til You Get Enough. The perfect blend of disco, soul, pop funk and r&b that exceeded everyones expectations, including his family. It’s a lightning in a bottle album; captured at precisely the right point in time. It’s a once in a lifetime happening and can never be duplicated. He’s letting everyone know on Off The Wall; “If you can’t hang with feeling, then there ain’t no room for you in this part of town” “If you can allow me my creative freedom then I’m moving on and going it alone” -but aazzaabb he didn’t write it! No, but he gawd damn meant it! Basically the album is a masterpiece and possibly the most important one he ever made. He’s instantly catapulted into being a separate entity and it’s no longer The Jackson’s, it’s Michael Jackson and his brothers. Perhaps he actually becomes Thee Michael Jackson on Thriller but this is the first step. He couldn’t have merely arrived at Thriller. One has to find their way. To be fair, Off The Wall it’s also the perfect bridge between Destiny and Triumph, and Triumph the perfect bridge between Off The Wall and Thriller. He managed to keep his brothers in the loop but after Thriller it becomes obvious that the only logical conclusion is to dispense with the facade. I love the Victory album but it’s not a complete album as they’re no longer a complete unit. It’s Michael and his brothers trying to keep up with him. He’s so obviously on his way to genius and megastar at this point that he wouldn’t have only held up his own career by remaining with them but it would have made them look worse and increasingly amateurish next to him. And on the Victory Tour it’s blatantly obvious. Edit] I’ve been thinking about it for the past while, and actually Jam on Dangerous opens in a similar way to DSTUGE; the smashing glass is used similarly to the Ooooooooh on Don’t Stop in that it immediately demands our attention and flings us into the present, and both tracks are similar in that they’re both statements of sorts.

Can you guys answer me why Who Is It, Give In To Me & Will You Be There are so far above everything else on Dangerous? Or are they? I mean what’s the big deal exactly? I love them but I equally love others on the album. In fact I love Remember The Time, In The Closet & Dangerous just as much. Why is it when MJ does a rock track it’s instantly considered great? They're not. There are songs that are much better on Dangerous than those 3 I’d love to know what you’re personally favourites are. I really like WII/GITM/WYBT but there’s a predictability that seems to position them as the be all and end all. In fact there’s 3 trilogy’s on HIStory that I prefer; Scream/TDCAU/SIM, Earth Song/D.S/Money and Childhood/Tabloid Junkie/2 Bad. You cannot watch this and not appreciate it’s greatness. I was so so on Childhood for years but this changed everything. The performance speaks for itself.

If you squint at a certain angle, CLHGA doesn't sound too bad.

If you squint at a certain angle, CLHGA doesn't sound too bad. When you see the music video that plays in my head then speak to me! Until then, please sit down! Honestly, I wish everyone could see it! It helped me appreciate the song more!

Ask your Dads Don’t you know that HIStory’s still standin’ better than it ever did! Lookin’ like a true survivor, more than Dangerous ever did! HIStory’s still standin’ after all this time Picking’ up the pieces of his life without Dangerous on his mind! HIStory’s still standin’ (Yeah yeah yeah) HIStory’s still standin’ (Yeah yeah yeah)

Seriously, we spend so much time talking about Dangerous and Invincible and never talk about HIStory, which is easily better than both imo. I blame Tony.
