Here is a playlist of J5 and MJ songs in his teen years (ages 11-17). Tell me if this guy's voice didn't change and didn't go through puberty? LOL.

I guess the media have run with this story as it further promotes their narrative of MJ being a freak. They like to alienate the public against eccentric/different people, so they can tear them down and the public are absolved of any guilt, because they've have been brainwashed and conditioned into not seeing MJ as another fellow human being.

They like to alienate the public against eccentric/different people, so they can tear them down and the public are absolved of any guilt, because they've have been brainwashed and conditioned into not seeing MJ as another fellow human being. Yeah but the media haven't run with it have they? Sure some trashy sites have talked about it, but no proper mainstream sites or papers have mentioned it. If most of us didn't have MJ news feeds we'd know nothing about it. Because we have the internet now, it feels like everyone is mentioning stuff when in reality it's hardly anyone. Like the Robson stuff, if I didn't have this & previously MJJC and MJ news feeds I never would have known about it. |

Maybe so, but still doesn't mean that 'the media have run with it'. The media running with things are stories splashed all over the front pages of tabloid newspapers or proper news sites like BBC etc.... |

It's very, very mainstream. |

I actually agree, Michael's voice changed greatly over this period and to me his first proper adult vocals are on the Jacksons (1976) and the song - "Show you the way to go" is the full adult voice right there.
Alessandro Moreschi (1858 - 1922) was the last in a line of castrato singers that went in a tradition back to the 1500s. Young men aged about 10 - 12 (Before puberty) had their balls removed (Castration) and this stopped testosterone development making them impotent and high pitched alto/soprano voices. As you can see in the picture, the lack of male hormone made them inactive and passive, so many grew enormously fat by the standards of the time. They were needed for Opera arias, and often sung female parts as some countries banned females from being on the stage well into the 1800s (Nell Gwyn was the first woman on the British stage around 1675). Their popular area was southern and central Europe and most were Italian (Hence the term Castrato, but German, Slavic, French, Iberian and Austrian castrati were also known).

The peak period for castati/castrato was the mid 1700s and by 1850, the practice was seen as cruel and degrading, especially as many became active sodomites as well (Language of the era). Alessandro was the only castrato to be recorded by a phonograph and the recording dates in 1902 when he was in his 40s and reputed to weigh over 20 stone.
Falsetto singing of the Rock and Roll era was much deeper than these real castrati. One of the first proper falsetto singers was Smokey Robinson and even he was compared to a gay in the early days, another one was Frankie Valli of the 4 seasons (Both of these artists also sang in their natural growl too). Falsetto caught on in the late 70s disco era and both Michael Jackson and Prince used it a lot. Even white artists like Leo Sayer (You make me feel like dancing) and Mick Jagger (Emotional Rescue) did it at times, but falsetto has lost popularity since the early 80s. One of the last great falsettos was Prince's Kiss from 1986. Michael never did falsetto after Off the wall and the chipmunked vocals on PYT were Latoya and Janet on speeded up vocal tracks. |

Somehow a convicted murderer which was disbarred as a doctor is more credible than Michael's own evolution as a singer. He "sounded so much like a castrato" that he sang in a more masculine voice ever since the BAD era. I guess it will never stop surprising me how stupidly gullible people are to believe such ridiculous and rehashed nonsense.

People are probably fooled because he spent a lot of the 1980s speaking in a higher pitch voice too. I've seen comments before of people being surprised at his voice when they see later interviews of him when he used his lower, natural voice instead - you know, Oprah's interview and so forth. |
