As an American, I don't really understand what Brexit is. It's one of those terms I hear like "ethnic cleansing", where I just nod and pull a concerned face whenever anyone mentions it and that usually gets me by.

I think it was mainly led by xenophobia. Then you have the fisherman which I can't blame for wanting to leave. And business ppl etc. But when you look at the vote leave areas and the reasons given and how the out team ran its campaign it was clearly looking to that section of society. Anyway remember what it was like when all ppl had to worry about was Brexit. I think everyone has forgotten about it😃

This is definitely, by far the funniest post of 2020. Still pissing myself laughing hours later.

This demonstrates that for both the EU and for Great Britain Remainers (who are mostly themselves quite ignorant of the complexities of Northern Ireland) Ulster was nothing more than a political pawn. Just a weapon to try to punish the UK for the Leave result. Once more, I repeat that ZERO threat of political violence by Sad Act and Noo Oi R Arrgghh is in any way justifiable. So, why has the EU and GB Remainers implied there's justification for it by not only constantly talking about it, but in kowtowing to such threats, implied or explicit? That's even worse. Answers on a postcard! 🤣 Worth revisiting this. Operation Arbacia, like Operation Banner, Eagle and Torniquet before it, has targeted high profile people in Saoradh and the New IRA. MI5 in conjunction with the PSNI and assisted by the Gardai as well as Police Scotland carried out arrests as well as house searches. A British Isles wide operation, to be exact. The quality of the surveillance material is far higher than we had for the previous aforementioned operations. New IRA terrorists were caught on high quality bugs moaning about not having access to the PIRAs own weapons. The same will be done to Saoradh and the NIRA that was done to Sinn Fein/PIRA and Workers Party/OIRA. Defeat for their terrorist wings and forcing the parties to accept democracy. Yes, PIRA never decommissioned all their weapons - just got rid of the ones that would convict them of unsolved crimes later. But, considering they were beaten militarily AND Sinn Féin is hopelessly ensnared in the GFA SF didn't even vote for, there's no likelihood of PIRA returning to large scale terrorism. Brexit or no Brexit. UK Remainers shamelessly threw their toys out of the pram and tried to manipulatively stop Brexit by using Northern Ireland as an excuse. They failed - rightly so.

But kinda worrying you don't know what ethnic cleansing is. If not a joke😇 Not a joke. Geuinely don't have a clue what ethnic cleansing is. I know MJ talked about it. I could look it up I suppose, but lifes short. I think I have a rough idea what Brexit's about. Something about London and Scotland leaving Europe?

Life indeed is short. Essentially it’s all bollocks anyway. Nodding ones head here and there, the odd surprised or exasperated look is more than enough to get by in this instance. I admire your can’t-be-fucking-bothered approach. 😎

Best known example of ethnic cleansing is the Holocaust perpetrated against Jewish people in Germany by the Nazis as well as in German occupied Europe. Then there's the one in the Balkans in the late 1990s. If this wasn't taught in school, I'd be gobsmacked. Especially the one about the Holocaust. And, no, Brexit isn't about leaving Europe as the EU absolutely isn't Europe. Nor would the UK be unique in not being part of the EU as not every European country is part of it....

Getting increasingly fucked off with the rhetoric from several USA politicians over the Good Friday Agreement. Especially Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden.
It's very clear they haven't read the thing properly and they don't understand that the East-West dimension of it is just as important, if not more so, thanks the North-South dimension!
About time clueless Americans stop talking about Northern Ireland, the GFA and Brexit.....

I agree with much of what Sarah Creighton says here: www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/sep/20/northern-ireland-peace-process-boris-johnson-joe-biden-nigel-farage-euShe's not a journalist, but is a Northern Ireland lawyer. Anyway, bottomline is that Northern Ireland has been very unfairly used as a pawn in a power struggle as well as a culture war. We're used to it as it's happened a few times in our history. As I said before, the SIMPLEST and EASIEST solution to Brexit is quite literally an economic border all around the British Isles. The Republic of Ireland would have their goods entering the EU checked at Calais and Rotterdam. This way: - the NI Protocol isn't required and the current controversy is irrelevant. - Good Friday Agreement continues on unaffected. - Brexit continues without ridiculous controversy and arguments. - the North-South and East-West relationships could get back on track. It is THIS that's actually fundamental to peace in Northern Ireland and not the NI Protocol or abolishing Brexit. - Finally, the UK and EU can get down to the actual trade negotiations and American Democrat politicians can stop trying to pander to an "Irish" American electorate who aren't well informed on what goes on across the pond! Anything else is quite literally using Northern Ireland as a pawn. Including by the EU in insisting on the Northern Ireland Protocol in the Withdrawal Agreement. Something that Northern Ireland's Assembly did NOT consent to. Ah.....of course, egos and a thirst for power refuses to allow this situation be resolved as above. All the while, many of the key players lie to the people about how there's no other, better solution to an allegedly intractable problem....... Jesus wept.

Don't worry - American politicians haven't a clue about Brexit and the Good Friday Agreement! Quite amazed to see Pelosi and Biden yap about it without having read the thing. And it's NOT a very long international treaty either!

Brexit is causing more problems for me living in europe. As british banks are starting to pull out of E.U countries and therefore brits living in the E.U with uk accounts are having them closed unless a deal is done or the banks pay to have E.U clients. Gonna make it very difficult if near impossible if mine pull out. Brexit the gift that keeps on giving!
I look forward to all the daily fail brexit voting british immigrants who live illegally in spain having their accounts closed. That will give them something to moan about. Especially if they have to then move their money to spain and havnt declared it to the spanish tax man like most havnt

Especially if they have to then move their money to spain and havnt declared it to the spanish tax man like most havnt Steady on! It's only Lloyds Banking Group, Barclays and Coutts who have confirmed they're withdrawing accounts for expats. Santander and Nat West are keeping the situation under review with no plans to withdraw accounts. Meanwhile, banks with an EU subsidary will be able to continue regardless of what happens in all likelihood. HSBC Bank plc is one that has confirmed this. In the grand scheme of things, this is small fish, especially compared to the EU's blatant disregard of the actual GFA in order to strong arm the UK into what it wants. That's a much, much bigger issue with implications for society in Northern Ireland. Here's the kicker, Brexit doesn't even violate the GFA, an international treaty. At any rate, the EU is pretty hypocrital, so why not be pissed at them.....?

Its not small fish to ppl its directly effecting. Its a very big worry for the many who need to maintain a uk bank account for pensions/rental etc etc..especially for older people who are not savvy and have no clue about "banks"like revoult etc.to say otherwise and to try and down play it because it doesnt effect you is totally disingenuous. just like if i said the majority of G.B really couldnt give two hoots about N.I even though you seem to have an obsession with posting about it regardless of topic. the place is an embarrassment and costs tax payers huge amounts of money to fund all those on benefits and having to fund all the security services because of all the bleepers on both sides who are an embarrassment to the religion they claim to live by.and want to act like they have the monopoly on victimhood.Easiest way to solve the N.I brexit problem is give it back to the republic but i doubt they want it!
If an agreement is not made then banks will have to pay to service non uk resident accounts the banks will then decide if the fees are worth it interms of the business they do there. The majority of the banks are waiting to see if a deal is done before making their final decision hence the fence sitting route that most of the banks and the U.K goverment (via the gov website) are taking.
Im not taking sides, unlike yourself i dont care who is or isnt to blame if anyone is.as playing the blame game does not change the situation i and others are facing.its just one of the consequences of the U.K leaving the E.U.im to concerned waiting to see what will happen and how it will effect my future. What was done was done in the vote. You keep to worrying about N.I which no one really gives two hoots about bar the right wing bigots but dont downplay how other issues will effect others because it doesnt suit your opinion.
From the way you write you voted out so you cant complain about any complications that brexit may cause N.I. what did you expect. did you not think about ant border etc issues. Or was it just typical unionist foster mentality.
