Michael Jackson's 'Bad' tour jacket up for auction www.reuters.com/article/us-people-michael-jackson-auction/michael-jacksons-bad-tour-jacket-up-for-auction-idUSKCN1N01PXLOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Michael Jackson’s black “Bad” jacket that the singer wore on his first solo tour is going up for auction in November and could fetch up to $100,000. Julien’s Auctions said on Friday that the jacket, which Jackson signed on the back with a silver permanent marker, was worn throughout the singer’s “Bad” world concert tour from 1987-89. The jacket, with multiple zippers, straps and buckles, is one of the late singer’s most iconic costume pieces alongside his red and black leather “Thriller” music video jacket that sold for $1.8 million at auction in 2011. Jackson has become one of the most collectible celebrities since his sudden death in 2009 in Los Angeles at age 50 from an accidental overdose of an anesthetic he was using as a sleep aid. The “Bad” jacket is being sold by Texas businessman and philanthropist Milton Verret along with almost 100 other items from his large rock ‘n roll memorabilia collection. Verret also owns the “Thriller” jacket, which he takes around children’s hospitals, but is not putting that item up for auction. The Nov. 10 auction at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square, New York, will also feature electric guitars played by Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, and U2 band members The Edge and Bono. The various guitars are expected to fetch between $20,000 - $50,000 apiece. Part of the auction proceeds will go to the MusicCares charity arm of Grammy Award organizers the Recording Academy that provides health and other services to musicians. “It’s tough for musicians and artists today and this auction presents another opportunity to give back to the music community,” Verret said in a statement.

thesource.com/2018/11/02/kenny-ortega-michael-jackson/Michael Jackson is talking from the dead as per the King of Pop’s dear companion and choreographer Kenny Ortega. “Michael is here 24/7 . . . and always here whispering in my ear. I mean he is indelible, he is forever. He is alive in spirit with me always,” Ortega said at the 8th annual World of Choreography Awards. Ortega arranged Jackson’s This Is It tour before he passed from a propofol overdose. Jackson’s older sister, La Toya, has made comparable cases about the star since his passing. She told Good Day New York in 2013 that security guards at their family’s Encino, Calif., estate heard tap dancing in the house. “When he let me know, I stated, ‘You’re joking . . . Michael used to do that each Sunday for two hours.'”

Best of MJ was on for two hours today on MTV Classic.
They even showed the full Black or White video.
It was the edited Thriller and Beat It and even Earth Song was edited for daytime viewing with that tiny bit when the dead guy opens his eyes was missing. Never seen that before.

Y'know I have to be honest - I just realised I haven't been excited for anything new MJ-wise in four and a half years now since Xscape came out.
I'm a pretty patient guy. I understand the scarcity of 'new' or unreleased material for a dead artist and I get that they want to ensure they're not scraping the barrel by the end of the decade... but at the same time I see all these amazing releases coming out for other legacy artists who are dead or no longer together and it's hard to not wish Michael was getting that kind of treatment too. One has to expect the fanbase of a dead artist will have quiet periods from time to time, and in a way I feel I can't complain... like some fans either had to wait countless years to get anything out of their legacy artists, or have barely gotten anything, and I'm very thankful for what the Estate have given us between 2009 and 2014...but at the same time, it is an awfully dull time to be a Michael Jackson fan... fingers crossed 2019 gives us something to get excited about.

Yeah, I'm not even excited at the possibility of any unreleased material coming out because the current estate is honestly not fit for purpose when it comes to respecting him as an artist. I'm sure I'll be excited for a while when it inevitably does happen but I'm not really bothered about it anymore.

For me, MJ is all about his output from 1968-2001. There are enough gems recorded and released during his lifetime to sustain my passion for the music and creative works of Michael Jackson for life. Anything posthumously released is just icing on the cake. I've been a fan for over two decades, but I still get astounded when I see the TDCAU Brazil video with fresh eyes or when I watch Billie Jean on the Bad tour or when I see rare footage from the Triumph tour. The other day I listened to Man In The Mirror for the first time in years and it gave me goosebumps (and I must've listened to that song upwards of 200 times in my lifetime). Everytime I think I can't possibly have anything left to marvel at when it comes to MJ, his catalogue proves to be the gift that keeps on giving.

Everytime I think I can't possibly have anything left to marvel at when it comes to MJ, his catalogue proves to be the gift that keeps on giving. Yeah, sure. I also agree that it's going to be the material he released in his lifetime that brings new generations to his work. I also agree that there will be times I'll revisit a piece of his work and go "man this is good!".
At the same time, I'd still love to see releases that enhance his catalogue. Take for instance what The Beatles are doing with their upcoming White Album reissue this Friday. The big one is a 7-disc boxset filled to the brim with unreleased alternative takes, allowing listeners to see the album develop over time and gain a greater understanding and appreciation for the final output of the album. It allows you to hear the different angles at which The Beatles sometimes approached these songs, and it comes with a hardcover book featuring in-depth essays, studio notes, as well as unreleased photographs of them in studio working on the album. Now like Thriller, Bad, or whatever, the White Album is considered amongst the greatest albums ever produced and can easily stand on it's own without any reissues. But releases like this allow fans to revisit these albums they love so well in a new light, enabling them to gain a deeper understanding of the work and appreciate further what the artists put into it. I've seen (literally) hundreds of pages of fans on other forums discussing the album in depth as a result of these new releases. Not just the new releases mind you, but also their thoughts on the original work as well.
Going back to my original point above, it was that boxset actually that made me long for something of this kind for MJ. I'm sure there are many conflicting opinions over whether the Estate is capable of doing this is another argument all together (I think Bad 25 showed they are capable of stepping in the right direction, even if they won't), but man I'd just love to get something to this level for Michael Jackson. Yeah it might just be 'the icing on the cake', but when done right I see these releases as valuable enhancements to the original release - allowing people to gain a greater appreciation of the final product Michael put out. We saw what the Beat It demo did for lots of regular non-fans out there and their opinions of Michael from an artistic POV. It'll always be the actual final version that brings people to Michael's catalogue, nothing will top that, but that demo has helped generate more discussions of Michael's work as an artist and his artistic process which for Beat It was quite unique, and I'd love to see that because I feel there just isn't enough discussions out there. If we don’t get it, we don’t get it but it would definitely be nice...

JThe Beatles had nothing really going on for them in the 1980s either - at least in terms of quality releases. The real quality releases that you are talking about started with their 1994 Anthology albums. So let's hope there's still time for MJ to do that too and for an Estate that actually cares to release such projects instead of just shallow ways of gettig a quick buck. Let's hope.
Some fans are trying to do the job like The MJ Cast getting people interviewed who have worked with MJ, releasing books like Damien Shields' or there are Brad Sundberg's seminars. So it is not like there aren't ideas or there isn't material. If the Estate cared they could have teamed up with these people a long time ago or at least lend them some support. But they just don't seem to care. Sad.

^Yeah you’re right, I was thinking of them when I said earlier that some fanbases had to wait years and years for new material. Aside from a live album of previously released music, not a single drop of unreleased material for 24 years post breakup until Live at the BBC (though fans did have plenty of solo releases to help with that). Crazy long time - the equivalent for us would be 2033!! I think we can all agree that no matter our opinion of the Estate, at least we haven’t had to wait that long for anything new LOL.

That happens all the time, famous people who die suddenly find their haul in auctions and for sale. I don't see a problem in it unless the items are really intimate like diaries or whatever. Wigs aren't exactly private or intimate are they?
When Madonna dies they should burn her stuff because we don't need to see any other unfortunate trying on glitter leotards.

Karen should shut up, she is not any better. But yeah, selling stuff like this is a bit disrespectful.
