Absolute run from hell this morning. Tried for 10m. I knew as soon as I set off something wasn't right. Felt slow and panicky. Stopped after 3m and never recovered. Managed to get to 6 and mainly walked back. Still walking now. Feel like I've nothing left. Could cry.Think mix of not sleeping properly and not enough to eat yesterday. Just awful. Can't wait to get in. Makes you question it all. The bolded part is all I needed to read. This disappointment is a good thing. Look back over my July, or June. You'll see lots of 2 or 3 milers. That was the exact same thing. These runs are telling us something is wrong, so we need to find out what that is. First thing is a day or 2 off. Then, start with a 3-5 miler at easy pace. If your easy pace doesn't feel easy, then you need to take a few days off. Make sure that if you need to do any significant walking that it is only done in runners with a cushioned soul. How many miles have you done in your current runners? Check your pace, and if you have a HR on your watch keep an eye on it. If your HR is bursting at the start of an easy run, you have an issue. Maybe run down, or flu coming on. Eating is vital btw. If you are going to do 10 miles, you at least need to eat a significant meal the night before. I'd opt for pizza any night before your long run, or pasta. That's what I do without fail. Not sleeping wouldn't be as much of a factor, but sleep and eating combined is a bad recipe for a run. Head up, you just need to reset and get out and do a short easy run. It will happen to you many many more times.

Did 2 x 5m at work this week no problem. Sure it was eating. Had a smallish burger for tea and some Weetabix later. Realised I was hungry once I stopped running. The panic feeling was the worst, but then not a great week. Off on holiday for 2 weeks on Saturday so need to try and do a couple this week to get my mind straight. Maybe 5m Weds and 7m Friday? Will try and do a couple of small ones when away if not too hot. Appreciate your advice. Got the 10m York couple of weeks after I get back so need to be back on top then.

Have started breaking up the times I get on my cross trainer as I find trying to do longer all at once just demotivates the hell out of me and isn't very productive.

Good session tonight, very happy with how I've come along since August. Long run up the mountain tomorrow, easy runs on friday and saturday then cross country race on sunday.
It's really sad that the evenings are closing in now though.

Still very happy as I think I was scraping 6min mile pace for 500m and 800m last week. Have to say Im buzzing. Swear to god, thats all the mountain running. Slow and steady regular miles up a mountain regularly will help the conversion to speed in no time.

I'm going to have to face hill running after holiday aren't I? The first 2 long hill runs suck - no two ways about it. By the third, it doesn't become easier but you become more conditioned to it. Regular hill runs make fantastic progress.

Regular hill runs make fantastic progress. Have brought my running stuff with me. Will probably only do 2 or 3m due to heat.

XC race today. I originally put my name down for the club to make up numbers as there were loads doing it. I've picked up a cold and feel like absolute shite now, but several others have pulled out for whatever reason. I've decided to go ahead and "race" even though I'm far from XC race git (even without a cold) but I'm more conscious of the fact that I am doing the half marathon next weekend and cannot afford to miss many miles/days this week. Hopefully I'll just get through it as a training run as planned. Physio booked for a sports massage tomorrow then.

Sounds tough with a cold. I was in the asthma group for XC at school even though I didn't have asthma. True story.
