Since Tony threw a strop in the other thread, I've started up this thread. This is for sharing how you look after yourself physically, mentally or both.
Share your activities, recipes, exercises, tips etc.
Post when you've found yourself in a dip, you'll get motivation.
Post when things are going well, you will motivate.
Post any questions, post any answers.
I'm currently training on my own, so I'm finding it very interesting and motivating to read what others are doing.
Everyone is at a different level of fitness, no need to be shy. We are all learning!
Anyone looking to get active, this may get you going!

I started fitness about 8 years ago I think, so quite late.
I abhor sports of all kind. That toxic masculinity environment makes me sick. So anything sports related at school put me right off exercise for years.
I also couldn't run as a kid. I remember being in the asthma group for cross country as those kids only had to do one lap. Except I didn't have asthma.
Laugh it up, fuzzball.
Anyway, now I love it. I wish I was better at running but I never really got there. 9 1/2 minute miles on average isn't good I know, but I enjoy getting out there, especially in summer.
I do lots of classes, like I mentioned in the other thread & enjoy the gym, mainly because like running I can just put my music on & zone out.
My routine ideally each week is:
Monday: Metafit & Bodypump Tues: Gym & Bodypump Weds: Bodypump Thurs - rest Fri - Kettlebells Sat - 20/20/20 Sunday - Run and/or Gym
Do all you runners run with music? There's not a cat in hell's chance I could run without it.

Excellent stuff lads. Myself and HIStoric are cutting weight at the moment. Heβs a fine gentleman and I hope with both your expertise you can guide us through the maze that is personal fitness. We both want to look stellar when naked lads. If you would both kindly share a few nude pictures as an example of how we could look if we work hard enough you would not only be helping out HIStoric and myself but also many on this board who look up to you both. Thanking you kindly for your help.

Do all you runners run with music? There's not a cat in hell's chance I could run without it. I can't that often, it's too much of a distraction. Maybe once a week I'll bring music if I have an easy run to do. Loved reading ye'r posts, didn't realise exactly what ye were into. I started running sparodically in 2014, when I did my first 6 mile race. Didn't run for months, then signed up for a half marathon. Did OK, but more importantly, I enjoyed it. Ran my first marathon in Tralee in 2015 almost killing myself in the process. My first marathon time was 4 hours 15 minutes. My last marathon in April of this year was in Vienna where I ran 2 hour 54 minutes and 52 seconds. It's been a long road (literally) but I absolutely love running. I train 6 days a week, being coached by one of the best marathon runners in Ireland (albeit, not in person). My average week is Monday - 8 miles easy Tuesday - Speed session/intervals around 8 miles Wednesday - 8 miles easy Thursday - 10 miles at pace/tempo Friday - Rest Saturday - 13-18 miles, easy or pace Sunday - 9 miles easy I incorporate yoga into my weekly training, because otherwise, I'd be crippled. I'm currently trying to get to race weight which is a couple of pounds under 140. My next race is a half marathon at the end of the month, so my weight at the minute is OK. Although part of a running club, I have been training on my own for 2 years now. The club was small, and I pulled away from the others making going to training pointless- hence why I pay for coaching. I'm in the middle of transferring to another very competitive club which I'm looking forward to doing! I'm running the Frankfurt Marathon on October, which will be my 29th Marathon. I ran this in 2016 and I was on course for my first sub 3 hgour marathon, when I collapsed at the entrance of the finishing arena, 500 metres to go. Went down for around 2 minutes, couldnt get up. Managed to hobble over the line. I have unfinished business in Germany! HIStory is my go to song. I am not sending nudes. Being on holidays this week means trying not to eat so much, so I'll be looking to you guys to help!

Well today I went to the gym for the second time! I went yesterday with a friend and she showed me the ropes on a number of the machines, it wasn't an intense workout by any stretch but that was fine as I only really intended to learn what the various machines were for and what not.
This morning I went to the gym super early. Ended up being the first one LOL so I had a private gym for 15 minutes, but I spent a good 30ish minutes doing strength exercises. I did some of the leg press, some of the chest press, an ab machine that I forgot the name of as well as some assisted chin-ups. The first week or two I'm just going to acquaint myself with the various machines, then I'll get stuck into an actual plan. Baby steps! My playlist for the strength training alone was a playlist of mine that has just danceable MJ music - a great soundtrack indeed!
After strength training, I went on the treadmill, walked for a few minutes and then kicked it into full swing. Running around 10-11KM p/h. I actually quite enjoy treadmill running, the environment isn't as exciting as outside but I either zone out on the television, or use the music to zone out in my mind. It's easy to just zone out and run? Whereas if I'm running outside, I have to keep aware of my surroundings. I ran for around 15 minutes before slowing down to a walk and calling it a day. Maybe it's just because I'm new but I quite enjoyed it! Here's hoping I commit in the long run π I'm going to wait until Wednesday to go do some more strength training (I'll probably do it 3 times a week), but I might go back in tomorrow after work for a run. I've been running 3-4 days a week this past month so I guess now's a good time to up it a bit and see how that goes.
Do all you runners run with music? There's not a cat in hell's chance I could run without it. Absolutely. There was one exception a couple weeks back though where I took out my earphones given it was a pretty dark area (was lit the other nights I was there?), but outside of that I find music to be really motivating. I've seen people in the gym with wireless on-ear headphones, and while I imagine it does help isolate out the gym music, I do imagine it'd get quite sweaty? I use wireless earphones myself, definitely a great option as I never have to worry about a wire.
Anyhow I have a running playlist that I switch up often, the first song is generally 3.5-5 minutes and is a good song for walking to. Then I kick into gear, usually some upbeat pop/rock/rap track. I actually find film soundtracks to be good too - especially action scenes from movies. Just place yourself inside the action movie, as you heroically run away from danger

Wait, you got in trouble for not wearing a hi vis vest? That's a thing? It's like late morning where you are, not night so why would you need one π

I tend to shy away from machines I don't know/understand at the gym which isn't good because I know you should change it up. But I don't want to look like a tit and/or injure myself. So I mainly stick to free-weights & resistance stuff which I think is better anyway. I don't want to be like stupidly jacked just toned really with the ability to open a pickle jar for a lady should she need it. ** ** opening a lady's pickle jar is not a euphemism.

So I mainly stick to free-weights & resistance stuff which I think is better anyway. I think machines can be great for isolation exercises, but agree that free-weight exercises generally make more sense as the foundation of a resistance training programme. Of course, it also depends on the type of machine you're using (e.g. compare cable machines, which still offer a lot of freedom of movement, to the Smith machine). It's interesting that you say you shy away from machines. I think the opposite is much more common, with people sticking to machines because they're unsure how to do free-weight exercises, or feeling insecure around the more advanced lifters that tend to hang around in the free-weight area at their gym. That certainly applied to me, when I first started going to the gym. Resistance training has been part of my lifestyle for quite a few years now. I primarily got into it because I was having some neck/shoulder issues. Developing my muscles really helped resolve those. Along the way, I developed a real interest in training and nutrition. Of course there are days where I really do not feel like going to the gym, but in general I enjoy the work-outs. I also get a lot of joy out of the process of working towards a goal and consistently improving yourself.

Luckily my gym has a small synergy room that I tend to use that keeps most meat-heads out so I'm more comfortable. If I had to be with everyone else I think I'd be shying away from the gym. We haven't really spoken about diet/nutrition yet. I'm pretty careful (some would say over careful) about what I eat. Make sure I have lots of fruit & veg (make a Nutri-bullet smoothie each morning with spinach, kiwi, banana + more). And only allow myself certain treats. I'm the sort that can take a bar of chocolate from the fridge, take 2 chunks & put the rest back. Don't drink too much, and rarely beer. I'm 5' 8 and about 145 pounds usually. I try to eat a lot of protein but I think if I ate more I'd be seeing better gains.

But I get around that by buying treats of a smaller quantity than I used to, so Iβll finish it and canβt be tempted for anymore Itβs a solid in-between.
